PDX GSX1300R

Rain in the forecast. The tumbling leaves will soon turn to slime on the road.

Time to ride!

Winter’s coming for sure. The morning in Portola Ca SE of Lassen on hiway 70 the other day was 36 degrees. Very little thatch on the road though as most of the trees are pointy top evergreens.
There's been a heavy frost here each morning and the day time highs are low......and no warm up on the horizon.

Kind of sad to go into the garage and see the bumblebee sitting there looking forlorn....

Well, the bike doesn’t look forlorn but I’m sure you do. How long is the hibernation, until April or May? I couldn’t stand it.
Oh it definitely looks forlorn, sitting there with the lights glistening off the paint wishing it was sunlight.....

It will be in storage until at least late April/early May.......sadly a person gets used to this as I've been dealing with it my entire riding life.

So bitchen!

The CX motors have long been a popular basis for custom builds. But having ridden one, I can't say that it's due to their performance. There must be other factors to chose such an engine.

As I recall, Honda turned the engine sideways to race AMA flat track for a while. Mad skills to pull that off.

A novelty of the longitudinal engine, was a perceptible left / right rocking motion of the bike when blipping the throttle in neutral.

One night, on my way home from Wendy's, out of frustration that I could not get the bike to spin the tire, I through caution to the wind, as only the stupid can, and fully committed at the next stop light. The light went green, I leaned over the tank, brought the rev's way up and launched. It was a dead hook resulting in a terrifying wheelie through the intersection. Never did that again...

They were reminiscent of Moto Guzzi engines....

They were real dogs weren’t they? And why they turboed a 650cc version?
I knew a guy that had a Silver Wing, with the bags loaded and a passenger, it wouldn't get out of it's own way....

They had a 500 and 650 Turbo bike.....

The bike looked great and was really comfortable to ride but it was soon outclassed by a myriad of N/A bikes like the 900 Ninja and the 2 stroke repli-racers...(RG and RZ 500)

Hypothetically, if you had a decent Gen 1 or 2, and the cash to buy a Gen 3. Would you spruce up your old steed with super cool stuff or spring for a brand new Gen 3? I mean, other than buying a Goldwing, investing $10k in farkle makes perfect sense. Wheels, dampers, brakes, carbon and titanium, oh my. The only down side I can see is the resale.

My gen2 already had some nice mods and I decided to to put it back to stock, sell the aftermarket parts and get a gen3. No regrets besides losing my trunk mod.

Brand new motos / cars have their appeal for sure.

Depends. If I had something that I bought new and kept it pure stock like this or modded one to perfection like this I’d be hard pressed to buy a Gen 3.

I had the time of my life dumping unreasonable amounts of money into a car project. I learned a ton. Met strange people. Had a unique vehicle that wasn't worth much. But I was proud of it. The entertainment value of researching, buying, wrenching, and driving. So many failures. But I persevered.

I need two bikes. A "good" one and a "toy."

A bike that runs perfect and looks good, and then a custom, all out personal preference bike is ideal if u have the space.

If u can make that be one bike, even better!

My problem is wanting to go really fast in a straight line, but still hit the twistys. I need two or 3 bikes
