Russia and Ukraine

I've read reports many of them are conscripts.....definitely not the A team....and all old equipment.

It was mentioned on here he sent these in as fodder to expend the western weapon systems before he sends in his crack troops to mop up, that does make sense. I just read that Belarus is sending troops in as well....I don't know how good they are.
Not very good. The Ukrainians can kick thier butts with homemade potato cannons.

Putin is incensed that Turkey has supplied Ukraine with Bayraktor drones. Erduran got quite close to Russia he now seems to be swaying back to Nato

Drone knocking out Missile launchers.. a hit then a delayed reaction before the whole lot goes off

It seems the UE /Europe has the most to lose in the battle of keeping the mad man in check, not the US. Can see China wanting to the US to get involved in Europe so the US gets distracted from the real world threat china getting control of the pacific via Taiwan. If Taiwan falls Japans in hot water, that would force a full scale NATO alert so perfect timing for a China. Taiwan has always expected US support for its defence strategy. could China and Russia be working this one out Putin seems to be doing enough to be a distraction but not really engaging his real military almost like bait. Maybe The US is watching China more than Putin

That is pretty much what I was thinking but it's interesting to have it from a source that actually knows what they are talking about! haha. I think the plan was to go into Ukraine in Trump's second term, it's possible Putin even waited for the election to be over to go in. Without the US, NATO has no teeth and Trump already disintegrated the NATO alliance. So when Trump lost, I'm sure Putin was incensed. He was probably getting the same propaganda a lot of Americans were getting saying Trump would win in a landslide. So now Putin has to decide if he can take advantage of a sleepy Biden. I think Putin had no dreams of how quickly NATO snapped to attention when Biden called. It's actually unprecedented to have all those countries in lockstep even in the face of economic disasters on fuel costs.

So it's pretty clear Putin made a huge miscalculation going into Ukraine. A month ago, Putin would have chuckled (does he laugh?) if you told him he would be fighting for his own political life. But that's where we are and he is acting more and more unhinged. So, this gets more and more dangerous.
When Trump told the European nations to start paying their fair share for the cost of running NATO... that was in your opinion an act that disintegrated NATO... is that right? Asking NATO nations to meet the level of obligation they signed up for is how NATO gets disintegrated? Last I heard they upped the dollar amounts they were contributing to NATO while Trump was in office... I am pretty certain once JB was installed those commitments dropped off again. The world is watching JB closely and they sense weakness... because he is weak... because he is old... because he is a puppet. His wife should be charged with elder abuse.

Putin was pissed off? At what exactly? money going into supporting NATO nations from those nations that were well behind the level of financial support they agreed to a long time ago?

Never underestimate a nation with nuclear arms that have been well tested to do exactly what they were intended to do. The Ukraine action could end up being a double or nothing bet for the expansion of Russia. Do you really think Putin cares what the rest of the world thinks about his transgressions?
If he cared he would never have invaded Ukraine to begin with.

The whole world has a lot to lose with this situation with Putin.

China is reliant on the west for resources and economics, they might be salivating to get into Taiwan but won't act on it if it means jeopardizing the western cash cow.

Russia is reliant on the west to sell it's petroleum....if we could, we should be shutting that off which would cripple his economy...

Money makes the world go 'round....and it talks much louder than any nukes...

How smart would it be for anybody to nuke anyone...especially your nextdoor neighbor?
The whole Fukashima reactor meltdown seemed to get swept under the rug pretty well; but isn't fallout from nuclear weapons a realistic concern for anyone?
Nuclear fallout is being monitored daily..

All the activity around Chernobyl has stirred up radioactivity from disturbing the area...this has been detected.

As for the Fukashina reactor site, it is being monitored each day as well, there are plans in place to remove the fuel rods and clean the site up....there are special robots being developed to do this.

It will cripple ours too... The climate change brigade of Al Gore inspired misfits is hard at work manufacturing constant fear mongering propaganda with phony science backed information.

The climate is always changing... the Sun has cycles that affect our climate and when our planet ticks up a little the other planets are also warming slightly because the Sun is the most powerful source in our Solar system. Yes, I am over simplifying it is some ways... we do need to be the best stewards of managing energy and reducing pollution that we can be... meanwhile... Ukraine already has a lot of cleaning up to do and its far from over... are any depleted uranium munitions being used in Ukraine? That uranium crap is nasty. Just ask the people in Iraq what it does.

When our mission shifted from Kabul to Kandahar, they kept the same ROEs even though our scope of operations changed and we went to a warfighting force...that was ridiculous....
Farcical.
I'll bet for the right price, they get all kinds of takers....

I have a friend who has a team which operates on the "fringe" for the right price.
There's plenty of work that's for sure.

Cleaning up Fukishima is a start. Then you have hundreds of square miles of contaminated dirt to deal with. It will cost a fortune to haul it all to the landfill... and where would that landfill be staged?

Here in Southern California when we widen highways that have been in place since the 60s, 70s, and 80s we have to take the top 6 inches of lead contaminated soil and haul it away... Up until around 1990 we were still burning leaded gas and that lead blanketed both sides of the freeways and got into the soil when the rains would come. I have loaded trucks for days at times just to get rid of all the dirt around a freeway interchange project.

The northern hemisphere has some level of raidiotive contamination just about everywhere. Over 2000 nuclear detonation test by the USA and Russia in the 50s, 60,s and 70s made sure the crap went everywhere. The exception to all of this might be found in the Southern Hemisphere where little activity has happened to the best of what I have found.

It seems there is always the tip of the iceberg showing.....

Many people wouldn't even think about all the lead being in the soil and plants surrounding the older hiways.....

I recall talking to a friend who operated an excavator and he said one time the company he works for was cleaning up after tearing down an old gas station...apparently the tanks were leaking for years and the hole they dug to get rid of the contaminated soil was huge...

I am a western movie buff and read where the cast and crew of several westerns filmed in the desert died of cancers related to the nuclear testing which took place near their filming sites.

The "gulf war" syndrome was a product of that DU usage.

I don't think the Russians are using that type of ammo.....it sure punches through anything though....

i just hope no stray missile strikes one of Ukraine's 4 Nuclear power stations (15 reactors), it would make Chernobyl look like a small garden bonfire.

that is where John Wayne may have developed cancer

I don't think he would nuke Ukraine. I think he is trying to draw the EU (Germany) and the U.S. to the negotiating table by making them feel threatened by nukes.

Thing is that within a year of the meltdown, things were washing up on the U.S west coast.
Bad stuff traveled to who knows where.

German Das Bild newspaper reports Putin and his Oligarch mates have gone to a secure Bunker in Ural mountains !!

According to the German media Bild, Vladimir Putin has fled Moscow in recent hours. He is now in a bunker in the Ural Mountains. It informs sources in the German government and a Ukrainian intelligence service to Bild. They also write that oligarchs who have been banned from leaving the country should, according to the information, be with the Russian president.

Ukraine: Putin has fled

Earlier, the Ukrainian intelligence service reported on Putin's flight from Moscow. According to the services, the Russian president is furious that the military operations in Ukraine have not gone as expected.

During the first four days of the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian army has lost 191 tanks, 29 aircraft, 29 helicopters, three unmanned aerial vehicles and five air defense systems, Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malar announced on Facebook on Monday.

The victims on the Russian side are up to 5,300 lives.
