Russia and Ukraine

The anti-Russian rhetoric is getting out of hand as well...people who have lived abroad from Russia for either all or most of their lives are being attacked physically and verbally just for being Russian....

This is most evident with the Russian born sports players...it's not like these people were in the Kremlin egging on Putin to invade...they were just as disgusted in this invasion as anyone but just by their birth, they have been labelled a villain.

Kind of reminds me of the villainization of all people of Islam after 9-11....

I say there's nothing wrong with being proud of where you came from or who you are even if it is Russia....this invasion doesn't reflect the ideology of everyone in Russia.

I did say it was a theory, but could be possible. Stamping his glory before he dies, high steroid use can cause a lot of mental and emotional issues and even memory loss.
one would have thought he would like to leave a positive legacy , like Russia a prosperous modern country in tune with 21st century.. go down as best President ever

rather than a tyrant ?? like Stalin who murdered 20,000,000 fellow Russians

While I agree with you that people are not individually responsible for the actions of their government, the Russian people are probably the people most capable of stopping this mess and keeping it from getting worse.

I think Russia and the west are very different cultures and upbringings. I think Putin being ex KGB and pro Russia probably wants Russia to be returned to its former glory before he dies. It seems like his entire presidency has been bully and intimidate.

one would have thought with the passing of time all of the ex-soviet / KGB indoctrinated pre 1989 would have died off. With their outmoded doctrines consigned to the trash can. Leaving the younger to pick up the reins.

if only we had a forward time machine

I think they are trying...so far over 6000 arrested for anti-war protests...the people of Russia live in a state of fear...

Now if they followed the Belarusians who refused to be part of the invasion by mass resignations and internal strife....there's only so much a government could do if there was a mass revolt...they can't arrest them all....

Putin was trained and indoctrinated in a different time and that never leaves a person....

The unit he was in was a special unit (Stasi) and only admitted hand picked people and those people went through some serious training....

Yeah Putin is a hardcore no joke USSR holdover. When Russia fell in the 90s we used to use the now unemployed ex KGBers to "assist" us. They were uncompromising, tough as nails, and only had a singular culture.

We used a few of them. They all had their specialties. We didn't ask a lot of questions. It was safer if we didn't know. Plausible deniability.

Putin is old school. Might makes right.

Read an article on him years ago. He's a council estate kid. Gang leader. Alley cat cunning. Has to be seen to be hard etc etc. Probably prefer to be remembered as the Russian who beat/stood up to The West rather than some visionary who brought prosperity to his country.

I’m not convinced that nukes will be his next step. There are many ways to escalate his assault w/o resorting to nukes. Like any leader he has to have military ’advisors’ that wouldn’t recommend it and just might prevent it.

There are always exceptions to each rule...what about the NHL players who have lived in North America for most of their lives.......all they want to do is play hockey, they could care less about Russian ideology.

The old adage is "if you got 'em, use 'em....." will come into play at some point....if Russia got painted into a corner, do you think they will just surrender?

Research indicates that 60% of Russians support the war against Ukraine.

Mathematically that means exception to rule does not apply.

60% of Russians living in Russia or abroad?

What I'm saying is people who by birth are from Russia but not living there are speaking out against the invasion and aligning themselves with the west yet are still being targeted by zealots who will take any opportunity to further their agendas.

...and where does this percentage spawn from? Russian media sources? Did someone go there and poll the people?

Who’s side are you on?

The tougher we treat ALL Russians, the better chance we have of them joining hands against Putin.

There's a side?

I'm on the side of humanity....all humanity which includes Russians...

Russia and the Warsaw Pact nations were my sworn enemy for years and years, I conducted many years of training of how to defend and fight any Soviet threats....I have no love for anything related to old Soviet Russia...

What I'm saying is I still believe the people of Russia don't want to be involved in this invasion.......thousands and thousands of Russian people took to the streets to protest the invasion only to be arrested and driven back. The leader of Russia and maybe his gang of thugs surrounding him might very well be of Soviet ideology but perhaps the people of Russia are not.

And Russians who are living abroad are denouncing the invasion yet are being targeted. Russians who haven't lived in Russia for decades.

This blanket punishment eludes me.......

Either way, the "Iron Curtain" will be going up again....
