Should guns be banned?

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." is a quote by Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II.

Absolutely. Although I would argue everyone being able to afford nukes if they were available, but belt fed machine guns etc. yes. If you have to argue "but why hi capacity magazines?", you have never fired a weapon at a moving target in a high stress environment. If you have, then you understand perfectly well why more is better in defense. Technically speaking, one .22 caliber bullet can kill a person; if your life or those of your loved ones is on the line, you don't want to "suppose" that the threat has been stopped. 13 rounds of .45 ACP, sounds about right. As a soldier, I defended the rights and interests of this nation. if you choose to be subdued without a fight, you have that right. But you DO NOT have the right to take away my means to defend lives of those I love, and myself.

Just so I understand - you're cool with people owning bombs, missiles, warheads, nukes, nerve gas etc etc without any regulation, just so you can have your guns?

P.S. - Thanks for your service and all others who served in this thread. We may not be on the same page on all issues, but you're service is still appreciated :)

There's already a database of owners....new purchases are registered by serial number.

Your kidding right, there are so many guns that change hands every day on personal ownership that those records are humorous at best...

I've said it before and I will say it again...

No more gun laws until we start enforcing AND prosecuting the ones we have.. I can't tell you how many times I arrested someone ILLEGALLY with a firearm only to have a judge or prosecutor throw it out or plead the case.. You could get a huge chunk of gun violence down in the US if the punishment of using a firearm in the commission of a crime or illegally carrying a weapon were actually enforced. Instead of making some new laws that we think MIGHT help lets get the ones that we know will....

The media in this case is a pretty sad bunch of clowns.... I see that they have pictures on CNN of the Bushmaster AR that was in the shooters car along with the pictures of the two handguns... Is the Bushmaster really even picture worthy or does it just look good to have an AR on the front page... These children were killed with handguns, so let's use this opportunity to go after large capacity magazine in rifles because he had one in the trunk.....

Enforce the laws we have and lets see what happens...

Cap...

Don't missunderstand, If we could all own them; there wouldn't be much problem. An armed society is a polite society. I don't say that just so I can have my guns.
All of these criminals have had something in common: go to a place with the least resistance. I have yet to see anyone go crazy at a gun store. Extremists are all the same. Take as many at once as they can to make some kind of point that seems important to them.None of the extremists I encountered ever risked a face to face fight with a soldier, too cowardly. They also knew that if they operated out of mosques (as they frequently did) that we would not destroy the mosque to get to them. Had the rules not been in place, just an extremists with a bomb and an uninhibited soldier with his own personal explosives; more terrorists cells would have been destroyed in their early stages. Just my .02. lol

P.S. -We may not be on the same page, but thank you for your military support :beerchug:

If we are required by law to register our motorvehicles, I see no valid argument for why we shouldn't register our firearms. Simple as that.

In fact, I think a system similar to our Vehicle Title setup would be close to perfect in terms of tracking...it closes the private sale loophole nicely and allows for a more direct link between the weapon and the responsible party, without being terribly intrusive (yes, anything is more instrusive than nothing, but submitting a form in the mail when you purchase or sell a weapon isn't too much to ask).

When the government come they won't be looking to take your car..........

When the government come they won't be looking to take your car..........

They could do it like Fidel Castro did the Cubans: "We're gonna take these for registration purposes.", then after they collected them all "for your CONTINUED safety, we're gonna go ahead and keep these. Oh yeah, and your businesses and personal belongings don't exist anymore either btw. They're all property of the government to be disbursed as we see fit. K thanx. Bye ".

A little bit of info released about the child killer: Mass murderer Adam Lanza learned everything he knew about firearms ... from his mother. Adam's mom , Nancy Lanza -- who was Adam's first victim -- was an avid gun collector who reportedly bragged to friends and neighbors about her weapons and took her son to several firing ranges to teach him how to shoot ... in the months leading up to his deadly assault. One of Nancy's neighbors, Dan Holmes, told the NY Post ... Nancy was a gun enthusiast ... an avid collector ... often taking her kids to the gun range, infusing them with her obsession with firearms. Adam used several different guns when he opened fire on Sandy Hook Elementary school earlier this week ... all of which were registered to his mother.

An avid collector.......gun enthusiast.....braggs to friends about how many guns I have.....oh look at me and my cool arsenal of weapons. My 2nd amendment rights..... I need 12 handguns, 16 rifles and a partridge in a pear tree because I gotta defend my home from the Red Coats!!! The Red Coats are coming The Red Coats are coming!!!!!!!!! To arms!!!

Well if you are going to have guns in the house ya need to teach the kids how to use them, if for no other reason so they understand the deadly implications of misusing them. On the other hand if you have a kid that's not all there you should have a Skydiver safe and keep the things locked the hell up or don't have any at all. I myself never let toy guns in my house, wanted to ensure there was no blurring of fun time with gun time, but that was my choice. My kids all are grown now and in or out of the military so teaching them with a bb gun at 5 and a 270 by 10 and how to hunt at the earliest age depending where we lived seems to have worked.

I suspect we will be finding out a lot more peculiarities about this family in the next week or so, I want to see how much time he spent on the x box and the types of games he played while his parents ignored him in childhood.

Strange how ya never see hillbilly's and ghetto kids shooting up elementary schools in acts of lashing out huh.

Excuse my ignorance on this subject since I've only been in this country for a few years but, a lot of my friends own guns that have been passed down to them by their parents. which tells me that guns are have been part of American lifestyle for centuries! So............... Why now they are such a big deal if they've always been around? Are there to many out there now or what? Because IMHO it looks like there is just more wackos like where I'm from! The only difference is that I'm used to seeing more stabbings on the news than shootings. :dunno:

I couldn't agree more with you Blaster. You don't see hillbilly's and kids from the ghetto shooting up elementary schools. But then again you don't see many hillbilly's or ghetto kids born with a silver spoon intheir mouth. They have had their :moon: beat when they get out of line and know struggle disappointment and loss.

So let me get this straight #1busa..... This kid snaps, kills all these innocent people and people that have gun collections are to blame? You sir are an idiot..... no offense

Kinda hypocritical coming from someone with a gun in their avatar dont you think? I hope thats not a double stack magazine.....oh excuse me "hi capacity" magazine

There are a lotta scared people out there mabupa, when some people get scared they look to the government as the savior instead of looking out for themselves. In the USA most of us know the government will always be there 20 minutes late and only do the paperwork after they draw a chalk line around you still warm body and maybe the bodies of your family members. As a new person here you should learn our history, the country was born at the barrel of a gun and each person has a right to a gun, the right comes from our founders fear of tyranny and despotism, they thought the best last line of defense for the our freedom and the Republic from this was to arm the individual. Some smart and refined people today don't think we should have that right as they know whats better for everyone else and the government is always good and being run by altruistic people that would never harm the average citizen,,,,, as long as we go along with their programs. Then some people (most) have balls and know the history of man in government doing harm to their own populations going back to the beginning of humankind. These people are the sentinels of freedom, usually serve in the military or are just upstanding good citizens, a vast majority or new Americans know their rights and freedoms better than people born here as they have to study for their citizenship. If you see the government try to take away peoples rights here in the US you should go back to where you came from unless you are ready to get the full experience American democracy at work, its ugly but it has seemed to work pretty well til now. Remember if you live in fear you will never live free, fear nothing while you are in the US of A. Welcome to America.
