"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." is a quote by Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II.
Absolutely. Although I would argue everyone being able to afford nukes if they were available, but belt fed machine guns etc. yes. If you have to argue "but why hi capacity magazines?", you have never fired a weapon at a moving target in a high stress environment. If you have, then you understand perfectly well why more is better in defense. Technically speaking, one .22 caliber bullet can kill a person; if your life or those of your loved ones is on the line, you don't want to "suppose" that the threat has been stopped. 13 rounds of .45 ACP, sounds about right. As a soldier, I defended the rights and interests of this nation. if you choose to be subdued without a fight, you have that right. But you DO NOT have the right to take away my means to defend lives of those I love, and myself.
There's already a database of owners....new purchases are registered by serial number.
Just so I understand - you're cool with people owning bombs, missiles, warheads, nukes, nerve gas etc etc without any regulation, just so you can have your guns?
P.S. - Thanks for your service and all others who served in this thread. We may not be on the same page on all issues, but you're service is still appreciated
If we are required by law to register our motorvehicles, I see no valid argument for why we shouldn't register our firearms. Simple as that.
In fact, I think a system similar to our Vehicle Title setup would be close to perfect in terms of tracking...it closes the private sale loophole nicely and allows for a more direct link between the weapon and the responsible party, without being terribly intrusive (yes, anything is more instrusive than nothing, but submitting a form in the mail when you purchase or sell a weapon isn't too much to ask).
When the government come they won't be looking to take your car..........
A little bit of info released about the child killer: Mass murderer Adam Lanza learned everything he knew about firearms ... from his mother. Adam's mom , Nancy Lanza -- who was Adam's first victim -- was an avid gun collector who reportedly bragged to friends and neighbors about her weapons and took her son to several firing ranges to teach him how to shoot ... in the months leading up to his deadly assault. One of Nancy's neighbors, Dan Holmes, told the NY Post ... Nancy was a gun enthusiast ... an avid collector ... often taking her kids to the gun range, infusing them with her obsession with firearms. Adam used several different guns when he opened fire on Sandy Hook Elementary school earlier this week ... all of which were registered to his mother.
Excuse my ignorance on this subject since I've only been in this country for a few years but, a lot of my friends own guns that have been passed down to them by their parents. which tells me that guns are have been part of American lifestyle for centuries! So............... Why now they are such a big deal if they've always been around? Are there to many out there now or what? Because IMHO it looks like there is just more wackos like where I'm from! The only difference is that I'm used to seeing more stabbings on the news than shootings.
I couldn't agree more with you Blaster. You don't see hillbilly's and kids from the ghetto shooting up elementary schools. But then again you don't see many hillbilly's or ghetto kids born with a silver spoon intheir mouth. They have had their beat when they get out of line and know struggle disappointment and loss.
