Should guns be banned?

Poppy what kind of men do you think we have i our armed forces? You ever read their oath? They are not robots or mindless Nazi storm troopers, now some of them might be but 99/.9% I know would have real issues obeying orders to kill Americans or oppress the population. Now some other Fed agencies have these types of people but not the armed forces in general, they take the Constitution pretty serious, unlike our politicians.

The fault I see with that logic is the armed forces have an advantage with high tech weaponry, electronic warfare stuff, lot more firepower than you or I. Ask anyone from the infantry or artillery units. Also, the example you used about our country's birth, both sides had the same pea-shooters, apples to apples. The cave dwellers you speak of have been supplied with comparable weaponry that we have....possibly some of the same stuff we gave them years ago.

I agree that the offcial military has alot, I mean ALOT more fire power and technology in their weaponry. I cant see them breaking out the weapons of mass destruction inside the continental U.S.

Apples to apples and oranges to oranges, man power and shoulder fired weapons , there is alot and I mean ALOT of us red necks, with military attitude with our own fire power. And the actual number would be significantly higher than the entire military added together.

And the southern part of the U.S. is deep in military veterans, hence alot of military knowledge.

Your kidding right, there are so many guns that change hands every day on personal ownership that those records are humorous at best...

They are registered to you when you purchase it NEW, once it's sold privately the records are humorous.....isn't that a problem??? That's one of the reasons I think private sales should be regulated. But I stand by my original statement.

There is a precedent for society gone wild with guns - the wild west c.1890 or so. People got control of their towns and restored order by disarming people in the towns. I don't know if that is the answer I am just pointing out that we have become animals in the past and that sort of worked.

The records of a person purchasing a new firearm are "suppose" to be destroyed after 3 or 6 months.
But we are talking about "Big Brother".

I am like alot of others on this forum. I have Friends and family that I trust with anything and everything that I have. And I know given a bad set of circumstances that they would do the right thing, to include fight and die.

But I want my weapons, because I know that I would fight harder and win for my family and what is ours.

No body will fight harder for you than you.

My quote mentioned was in response to a poster worried about someone coming to take their guns...well if they come for them they will get them eventually. The people charged with that task are not going to respond with rainbows and butterflies if preppers respond with gunfire. I personally know we have fine patriotic citizens serving in the armed forces and yes I have read the oath. I'm a firm believer in the 2nd amendment so you will not get an argument out of me on that subject. I also believe every legally qualified citizen should be able to obtain a CCW permit for their own immediate personal protection.

Ya....I think you need to brush up on your history. I live in what and still is the wild west and thats not what happened

Hey Poppy,
What would ya think about Open Carry?

I'm not a big proponent of open carry for several reasons. First and foremost, it leaves no doubt as to who the bad guys will go after first. next, there are restrictions in my current state, Utah(very gun friendly) that if you have a CCW, you can have it racked & ready to shoot; no permit, no round chambered or in the cylinder. Plus not knowing if the person carrying is a thug will keep me concerned. How about you?

As I'm sure you've seen none of that high tech stuff does any good when you have to go door to door.
In Iraq and Afg nothing other than a boot to the door is what they used. The American populace would fall into a guerrilla style war and the formed military would lose.

And no the Govt doesn't have access to 'info' unless its turned over to them.
The serial numbers to guns I've bought are on the 4473s I filled out which are still at the dealer I bought them from. There is no magic way for them to know.

I can only speak for Florida as I don't know how other states handle firearm purchases.
But here the Federal govt and not even the State govt know the serial numbers of the guns I own. They don't know make or model or caliber either. The form stays at the dealer. When background check phone call is made no serial number is given to the FDLE. They simply say handgun or long gun. Only if the FFL holder goes out of business do those yellow forms get turned over. Till then they stay on premise of said dealer permanently. They do not get destroyed after any amount of time.

So let's just take your point of view on this... How many shootings in Utah with open carry no training required VS a gun limiting state with an outright ban in Chicago... Heck I think I could even put Utah and Arizona together from whole anything goes states and there would be more killing from firearms in one city with an outright ban on handguns...

Thoughts?

What's the population of Utah and AZ vs the population of the city of chicago or say NY city? You have 2 different types of enviorments and therefore the behaviors will be influenced as well

Phoenix AZ is no prize city when it comes to crime.. But still I'm sure doesn't hold a candle to Chicago.. Of course I'm FAR too lazy to actually research that.

In chicago for instance you have millions of people literally living on top of 1 another. There is a reason why there is more crime there vs somebody that lives in a rural neighborhood in Utah. I'm sure there is crime there as well but not on the same scale

The problem you have in arizona (speaking from experience) is the influx of criminals from a completely different country. In arizona you can conceal and carry without a permit which makes a criminal think twice before committing an atrocity.

Its no different than with animals. Take africa for instance. A small watering hole you might have a few antelope, water buffalo, lions, hyenas, etc. The lions still eat the gazelles.... Just not that many lions and not that many gazelles. Now when you go to a larger watering hole there is gonna be a lot more activity there. More prey....and more predators

Blanca, that's just not the way it is. FDLE contacted me ~ 1 year after I purchased a S&W .40 cal to ask if they could visit me at my work(Scripps in Jupiter at that time) to discuss something. Turns out there was a shooting in Daytona and they knew I had that type of weapon. So law enforcement can obtain whatever information they need, whether people think so. Yes, I called the FDLE West palm office, verified who they were and had the FAU Police Sgt. present, who I knew personally. I had nothing to hide and everything worked out. They basically asked if I travelled to Daytona. Yes, for bike week. Gave them dates, etc...FDLE knew my number, where I worked, that I had a .40.....I asked them how they knew where I worked and they said "FDLE knows a lot of stuff" and we all laughed but it was true.

I suppose they can subpena businesses for info.....
