Try it before you buy it?

I work togehter with a BMW/Suzuki Dealer, there is som kind of friendship between us. He talks very open to me! He showed me the Mountains of Papers from BMW with recalls, and even so the digital BMW Network instructions. Hell.....i was pale for a while!

The problems of BMWs are known everywhere, not just fairy tales or bad gossip from the competition. But the success is unbroken. There are people here who wait weeks or months for their bikes because there are no parts, but BMW forbids them to ride their bikes. And they still praise this crap in the sky. As if they were indoctrinated. My dealer also says he's grateful for BMW. Because the customers pay whatever is asked. Customer service for a Busa 245 euros, for a BMW GS1250 just 850 euros. Without BMW, he would have been bankrupt long ago, because at Suzuki he had hardly anything apart from customer service. You get a set of tires or an accessory part, but otherwise you don't see the customers. You can't make money on that! Since trading BMW, he has had to hire employees, has a full workshop all the time and Suzuki only stands around there occasionally because he loves the brand. But only with Suzuki would he be finished long ago. He openly admits. A friend of mine bought a new S1000RR in 2019 and then told me in March 2020: "yeah, finally my S1RR is at home." I was happy for him, he had to leave the machine at the dealer since September, 5 callbacks had to be edited. Too thin crankcase, cracks in the oil pan, leaky brakes, defective display and defective shift camera system. So I'm happy for him and said "well let's go now". Then he looked a bit serious "no no ... I was allowed to take it home now ... but I am not allowed to drive it ...... the cylinder head still has to be replaced ... BUT then it is the best ever. Yeah ....... great ...... that is also an attitude.

This is not only the case with you! I mean the "King of the Road" as you notice it. Like the kings who want to be admired but ignore the normal person / biker. As if they were something better. In Germany it is a tradition that bikers always greet each other. Unfortunately this is decreasing more and more, even the boys say "boaaa..ey .... why is that? That's something for the old sacks". But generally a nice custom. But BMW riders? 8 out of 10 do not say hello at all, of the remaining 2 ... it is rather carelessly greeted back. It's a genre of its own, even if I don't want to generalize. Often they look down on Japanese Riders, only I wonder why? My motorcycle is fast, reliable, durable and still affordable. Everything I can't see in a BMW. Everyone has their own thing, but it is often difficult to be tolerant. ;)
Nothing wrong with blind brand loyalty in my book.Faults and all.. including our bikes. G1 slipped timing via the tensioner spring, G2 electrical gremlins. But pale against BMW faults.Starting with the early K series.. faulty abs. At least one KIA. No brakes come the moment. From memory,BM didn't even issue a recall.
As for not nodding, many more do nowadays but it 'twas ever thus.

My brother is an advocate for BMW bikes, he has almost a million miles on his '79 RT and over 300,000 miles on his '95 RT....however, I asked him if he'd buy and new one and he would say "no" instantly as he has many friends who have had so many issues with the newer bikes they have traded them or sold them and went to mostly Japanese bikes.

He did say even Harley guys wave at him whereas they normally don't wave at Jap bikes...

Ok, I finally went in for a test sit, lol...and I fell in love!
Much to my suprise, the difference in the seat, tank, and bars was Exactly what I needed.
The gen3 fit, it was very comfortable.
I love the gsxr1k, but the amazing engine still lacks Busa torque.
I am thrilled right now, as I know the next bike I'm buying...a Black gen3.
Fortunately this one is silver...so no risk of me buying it knowing that I can get black.
I'll be ready to buy in a month or 2.
I'm excited!
To be back on a Busa, And be comfortable...oh yeah, I'm gettin one...For Real.

It's always good to have a goal and a plan.....it will be fun for you to have something new to play with.

See it was me, I'd be more inclined to get a silver one over a black one.

Yep
You've heard me yammer about my goal and plan enough, another 1k, or blah, blah.
I honestly never thought I'de be comfortable on a gen3(because of the same frame), but those little changes sure did it.
I found a couple black ones within a few hours for $16,500.
I never saw myself paying this for a motorcycle either, but I never thought my all time favorite motorcycle would fit so well.
The new gen can only be better.
I also think it's the best looking of the 3.
Coming soon.......

It does have a modern flair to it...

I'll never be in the market for one but they ARE nice.

Can I trade mine in and get the discount?. I'd love a little extra cash.:p

That's interesting that you noticed the fit ergonomically, I have my 05 adjusted in all the right places. Perfectly comfortable for everything. I went out on the break in runs on this new bike, and didn't really notice too much that didn't fit well.

I had my gen2 for 3 1/2 years,
I had the spare key to a friends gen1 for a couple years before.
I could tell a small difference between them, around the tank and seat, but they were basically the same ergonomics.
Since the gen3 is the same frame, I expected the same reach to the bars, as it was the length of the gas tank on the gen1 and 2 I disliked.
@Kiwirider told me last week that he could tell the differences in the 3 gens sitting on them. That the tank and seat on the gen3 were narrower where they meet, and that the bars were a little closer.
I'de have to say that was spot on, and immediately what I noticed too.
I know I could tell the differences between the 3 sitting on them blindfolded.
A small change in ergonomics from the gen2, but dramatic to me in how well it felt.
I have to admit I loved riding the fat pig gen1 and 2 around, and their engines...we all know, but as much as I tried, I just wasn't comfortable.
I Love 1000's...but that Busa torque, I miss it so much.
So to sit on this, and be instantly amazed at how it just feels Right...happy is an understatement.
I think it feels lighter off the kickstand from previous gens too, but maybe that's just me.
I have several big things going on at the moment(house sale and move), and once I get settled, I had planned to buy another bike anyway, this or that, but now I know it will be a black gen3.
Already planning the mods, lol.

I had to smile a bit now. I felt the same with ergonomics. In many test reports you read or saw editors, mostly under 25, who complained about how stretched you sit, how far forward you are, how high the footrests are. The ergonomics would be so stressful. In the German forum, some began that it would be so uncomfortable with the high footrests. But I sat on it and knew this is exactly what I want! The high footrests didn't bother me, I'm used to superbikes anyway and it's much more extreme there. Otherwise, the bike suits me like the proverbial butt on the bucket in Germany! :) I've never had a bike before that didn't hurt or pinch anything, nothing either. Neck, shoulders, back, wrists, everything is completely relaxed, even after long journeys. After 150 kilometers my butt starts to hurt a little, 5 minutes break and I can drive the next 150 kilometers. It couldn't be better. The only thing I could complain about is that my fat lady likes to drink a bit, which is probably due to the Euro 5 standard. So congratulations on your decision, you are definitely not making a mistake. The black one is very maintenance-intensive, but a feast for the eyes. Even if I admit, I would have seen a white one before, I don't know how it would have turned out: D

I love reading all your comments.
It sucks what happened to your gen3, and I'm glad it's back together, but, to find the good, you learned alot about working on it, and have shared that with us too.
It's also a shame that people just walk into the U.S, yet if you wanted to come you have to jump through so many hoops.
Maybe a vacation here to ride?

I asked, and they didn't have it, but said they could order it.
They also said they couldn't get any more Busa's, and had no idea when they would be able.
But, other dealers have black ones and better prices anyway.
In India they charged us the equivalent of USD 400 for the back hump/ seat cowling.

Did you guys have the opportunity to try before you purchased?
NO. "How are we going to sell a bike that was used for people to take test rides on" was the story I got. You buy it you own it.

at my age (53) I don’t go to tracks
Why not? I'm 55 and I'd go to tracks all summer if I had the money. I probably wouldn't buy a busa for track days though to be completely honest...except for LSR and drag racing. Oh wait, I'd buy a 14R for those.

I can't say yet but if you plan to turbo, the Hayabusa might be a better choice than the 14R. I still think they should have made the stock hp higher so we would all be confident the beast could be tops with the right work done to it.

Thanks man

Thanks for the nice feedback my friend. I am glad you like my comments. I really like the time here in the forum. The tone here is different than in Germany and it's much livelier. Fortunately, my Busa is whole and almost perfect again. Only between the indicator and the side panel is a small gap that is perhaps 0.5 millimeters too big. Nobody sees ... except me ... I always stare at it. I also know what the problem is, but for that I would have to replace the entire indicator. He probably got something away in the accident. I learn to live with it, even if it is hard for a perfectionist. : D To share things and knowledge is also important in my opinion, if we don't help each other, who then? And since many of our workshops are rip-offs, I try to help the fans with it.

Now a vacation in the States ... would be my dream, also that of my wife. But with 3 children, a new Busa, a new car that we had to buy, the old one was really finished, my finances are now drier than the Gobi desert. But the plan is to visit the States and see everything that inspires me so much. The many states and attractions ... I think it would take me weeks. : D

Nice try six! Even if you get a Gen 3 I'm still not going to be nice to you. In fact, I may be even worse due to extreme jealously. Haha. I am a bit surprised though, I would say the Gen 1 was the best hooligan bike of the 3 in QEM form, with the turbo Gen 2 being the perfect bike to ride to jail. The Gen 3 seems a capable gentleman's "get down and boogie" bike. Never took you for a gentleman, Haha.

Seriously, I have heard your opinions on a lot of bikes over the years so I will look forward to your opinions on the G3.
