"The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries."

"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise."

-James Madison, also known as the 'father of the constitution'

Correct. That doesnt mean our country cant be founded on christianity. Separation of church and state is that. Keep government out of churches. That doesnt mean that our countries foundation cant be christian. Its not separation of religion and state

True dat, I'm just trying not to stir the pot...today:laugh:

Don't wait. Go to that school and have a talk with the Principal and teacher. Do it calmly but do it now! Get all sides before making judgment. As some kids do, mine included, they will leave a few detail out but you do want to get the whole picture before deciding on your next move. I would be very upset if this happened to my child too.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

+1 on that

Ummmm... what???

You have it all sorts of backwards man...

That first quote was from a letter written by Mr. Madison objecting to the use of government land for churches.

This post is off topic from the OP. If you care to continue, feel free to post up in the 'politics' forum.

There isn't the difference you are trying to imply. Simply a term coined from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in which he says, "I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."

The law points towards organized religion as a whole: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

And in fact, our country just plain and simply was NOT founded on christianity.

Edit: I'm not responding to anymore posts in this thread about the matter. As I said, We can move it to the Politics forum if you like.

Fired?!?!? I agree the teacher was wrong but fired over this seems a little extreme. The flip side would be your daughter is not patriotic so lets toss her over a border fence with a jug of water and say enjoy yourself???

Wow this went from a generalized opinion thread to now a argument over religion, now it's about illegal immigration???? I live in Arizona and I could school you on immigration. First off, if your son or daughter was in school and for some reason (im not arguing that my kid did something stupid or naive, she shouldn't of left school, and i don't know why that keeps getting brought up.) Some teacher made a comment to him/her in front of the class then what would you do? You would be just as pi**ed as me. S**t like this is why kids all around the world are blowing their heads off and jumping off of bridges. Bullying isn't what it was when i was younger were you beat the hell out of the bully and it stops. This is a blatant case of a teacher using his power to undermind and discourage a young person from wanting to be in an educational environment. My daughter is on the honor roll every semester, last year she received a award signed by the president for academic greatness and is in accelerated classes. True, this country was founded on christian principals but anymore who cares what religion people are, that's what's great about America is the diversity.

And you can love your country, and not be religious at the same time........ignorance isn't bliss.:corner:

Has gotten off topic.

Again, you can be firm while remaining calm and not overdoing it. Remember your daughter is watching, and is most likely to gravitate towards a man that acts like you act.

I am not saying that im going to go down to the school and drag this teacher out into the parking lot and bust his face in, Im a business man and can do more damage with my words and my demeanor, than i can do with my fists. I have no problem being an a**hole when i need to and I can be a very polite a**hole...... Wow stirred the pot today didn't i?
:poke:

The pot needed a good stirring, keeps those of us on the bottom from burning.

That, and work for us is slow during the Holiday season, so I'm bored out of my mind.

and completely pi**ing some people off is always fun.

talk about not getting it.....

I dont know how you can imply me not understanding it. Its actually a very simple thing to understand. Seems you are in molokos boat.

Right, it wasnt founded on christianity but documents and currency have it all over it  lost cause. But thats really all most religious debates and political debates are.

that teacher turned a rare opportunity to teach into a time to criticize and ridicule . . . The teacher was wrong, period. You, your family and your daughter deserve an apology, nothing less.

No child should be singled out, especially in front of the whole class. That teacher is an a**hole. And whether or not your daughter was wrong (in the teacher's opinion) is not the issue. What is the issue is that instead of turning it into a relevant discussion about different beliefs and freedoms we share because of all the men and women who died fighting for those rights, the teacher turned it into an opportunity to ridicule and demonstrate his (or her) ignorance of what teaching is about.

Stick to your guns!:poke:

One of the most important things for you to see here fastbusa is that this teacher child dillema will probably escape your memory later down the road. Your daughters love choices might also be forgotten to some extent but I'd bet my pay check they will be far more important to you in the long run. Keep us posted.
