Weather Where You Are

It's been freezing or below freezing (the high) all week, had a bit of snow couple of days ago but today Sunny high near 50f so gonna try to get a short little ride in today.

A week out from official start of summer. Freezing cold, rain for days and snow in the Ranges. Wtf is going on... First time ever at this time of year the bike is on a battery tender..
Things were "topsy, turvy" around here too, I was riding in November which is something I haven't done in years and years. Now it's old and snowing out and the salt trucks have been out so the season is definitely done.

I was talking to my neighbor and we mentioned we usually see hundreds of crows fly over each evening but this year we've seen none. Our Oak trees have no acorns and our Mountain Ash trees are berryless this year..

I hope you and your son have a blast again!
As Florida flat landers we had a blast! Neither of us have ever seen that much snow. We stayed here..

I got us the most remote cabin and rented two ‘sleds’ for a week. First day my son got his sled stuck on the side of a hill and jumped off it to get it unstuck. When he jumped off he sank up to his armpits in the snow!
It was the first time my son had ever seen snow in his 16yr life. I know kinda sad but we’ve always taken vacations to warm destinations. He said he wanted to see snow. So I took him where he’d see SNOW like he couldn’t imagine. DEEP powder!
I got LOTS of pics and videos but I think of all these two are the best. Snow started really coming down on our 2nd day there so we went outside the cabin to enjoy it. Watching him catch a snowflake in his mouth for the first time ever in his life was worth every penny. Then he took the other pic of a flake that landed in his palm with macro mode on his phone. Just a perfect little snowflake.

We are going back in a few weeks. The snow, the trails, the mountain views were simply breathtaking for us…

Looks like a good way to have fun in the winter....it's been a while since I've been on a snowmobile, I get offers from my neighbors who have a few of them but I never like to use someone else's stuff just in case anything should happen.

One of my neighbors has 2 brand new Ski Doos and 3 brand new youth sleds for his kids...he is chomping at the bit to get out and ride them and I can't blame him at all. He's got probably over $50k invested in these things.

They ain’t cheap that’s for sure. Glad I got the insurance on the rentals as first day my dipstick son thought he was a master after only a few hours on one and decided to go off trail a bit coming back over a plain. Everything’s all white and he didn’t realize there was a dip si doo with a stream in the middle. Went over the little ‘cliff’ and stuffed it into the other side bank flipping over handle bars breaking them and throttle cable. I saw him disappear and feet upside down in air and thought the worst. Turned around to go see and he was buried about four feet in the snow bank. He thought it was funny until our guide who was super cool told him about a girl who did same a couple months prior and broke her pelvis.

I did a course on them when I was in spec ops and we were shooting from them on the move and expected to hit targets...and we drove them out of the back of Chinook helicopters and such craziness.

When I went to the conventional forces I often got bored so I would volunteer to teach our LOSV (Land Over Snow Vehicle) courses......some of these troops have never rode a snowmobile and the antics they would go through was something to behold as they thought of them as toys.....but quickly found out they weren't toys.

But we had a big 'ol clunky wide track sleds with a pull behind sled for the gear. One thing is, when they got stuck they got stuck real good.....

Both of us spent a good deal watching YouTubes on how to unbury a sled from different positions or things. They all work and sometimes did. But we had a really cool young guy for a guide to A, make sure we didn’t get lost and B, to unstick them when we or er should I say my son got his stuck. He was a bit more adventurous than me. And when we’d come up on a hill or something he would always ask the guide ‘can I go up that?’ ‘Sure. Give her a try.’ And he did. I have to say again my flat lander senses and age doing that scared the crap outta me, ESPECIALLY coming down! Going up on the throttle you’re like ‘okay this is pretty cool!’ Then turning around and looking down I was like ‘omg did I just go up that?!?’ My son was zipping up and down all over the place. After a while I just sat down at the bottom and watched him. Good pucker factor. But I brought him home without a scratch which saved my own life from the wife :)
Thanks for sharing pics, looks epic, I can see why you want to go back!!
It was a really cool ‘man trip’ and some good bonding for sure. Wife hates cold AND snow. So she ain’t interested in it at all.

There are 600 miles of groomed trails all marked and mapped. But the guide took us off trail to meadows like this one where he could just hammer it and fly around. Then we’d climb a hill or small mount and ride thru majestic trees.
Again there is nothing like this wayyyy down here in Flattsville Florida…

A great way to spend some quality time...the new sleds are pretty awesome and those look like mountain sleds so are even more fun.

What's crazy is if you step off one and then go up to your chest in snow, shows you how well they "float" on the snow.

I don’t think either of us really realized what 6-7 FEET of snow was like until he jumped off and sank up to his armpits. Literally took him five mins just to crawl out of it so he could think about what to do. It was hilarious.
And yeah they were mountain sleds and ‘floated’ over it. Was like riding on a huge world of cotton balls. Also amazing how well they pushed thru deep stuff off trail.

Just saw a person riding by on a Can-Am Spyder....he looked like the "Michelin Man" all bundled up...

If I had one I'd ride it all year.

A friend of my friend with the gsxr, has one, the goldwing version, lol.
It's white with 2 side bags and a top case, cruise, blue tooth radio, automatic with a 3 cylinder, 115hp.
He's retired, rides it often, and ask if I would do the next service, as the detail charged him over $500 for the first one!!
So at some point I'll get a chance to ride it.
It looks like fun lazy cruising.
But I'de really like to try a Ryker...and those are available with gen3 engine swaps now!

A gen 3 engine in that thing......I'd almost think it would be unmanageable. I suppose if the electronic suite were included to keep tire spin and wheelies under control it might work.
