Weather Where You Are

Supposed to get a whack of snow starting tonight and continuing into Saturday....the yellow beast will get a work out...

I see you couldn't resist the Bumblebee color theme! The good news is that it saves the back from excessive strain. I pinched a nerve in my back at the age of 11 while shoveling snow in Minnesota. As a kid I also got to clear the ice from fresh snow at the skating rink with a shovel about 4 feet wide and using it like a snow plow.

Of course I have a yellow blower, and a yellow garden tractor...

I generally shovel the snow to each side of the driveway and then blow it from there.

This thing has heated grips and power steering...

Come on man! Heated grips? Maybe... power steering? GMAFB!

I just love it when the motor is lugging slightly under a full load and the dry snow is getting launched into the sunshine!

Even my Cub Cadet garden tractor has electric power steering...I can navigate around the lawn with one finger.

I rarely use the power steering or heated grips on the blower though.

Seems to me the world of engineered steering systems has gone to the extreme and now caters to the weakest among us. Who needs power steering to steer a snow blower? Do any motorcycles have power steering?

Well, the snow has come and keeps on coming....probably got over a foot of wet, heavy snow....and more on the way.

I blew out the driveway an hour ago and it looks like I never touched it now.

While taking this picture, I found this other picture I took a week ago from basically the same angle...

I realize my phone takes lousy pictures as I remember this being a lot more crimson when I took it....

Have you ever cleared the ice piles left by the city plow? Steering snowblowers, performing U-turns, powering through dense piles and such puts significant torque on the back. It is truly bad for the health, a person's strength notwithstanding.

The sport bike is designed to steer with very little effort. I agree that there is no need there.

Methinks that power steering was custom made for the snowthrower, a long-needed improvement.

In my mind I was reflecting back on all of the years that they did not have it, all of the pain, the suffering...
I remember the days of not having one, we had a steel snow scoop and lots of work every time it snowed...

Even without steering it sure was handy to have one....

The one I have now is an HD (heavy duty, not Harley Davidson) so it is pretty heavy, the steering comes in handy.
