To me this generation of V-Max is far nicer than the 2nd gen....there is just something classic and timeless about it whereas the 2nd gen is nice but an exaggerated version that just didn't quite make the mark (in my opinion only).

An officer I knew lost his son who was 10, he loved his dad's V-Max so his dad made his bike into basically a rolling monument to his son.......

He had his likeness airbrushed on the "tank" and his memorial post airbrushed on the tail.....

The best part is he rode that bike as much as he could.....

I got this from my best friends widow. He bought the bike used with 2k miles after I spanked him with my GSXR750 on his CB900f

Crazily enough years ago one of my friends that got killed had an 05 Hayabusa. His widow was thinking of selling it me as he talked about riding with me all the time and she thought I'd like it......after a lot of thinking, I just couldn't bring myself to get it.

I put in the new 4.5" rear speakers, but kept the 5.5", and will mod those in at another time.
I got the new 12" Madstad windshield and put it on too.
Very well made and a perfect fit.
It adjusts up and down, and the top tilts in and out.
I'm 5'10" and this works perfectly for me.
I can see over the top, and the wind doesn't buffet my Shoei RF1200.
The airflow is very good, and can be directed away as well.
For looks, I like it, reminds me of the windshield I cut down on my Concours, lol, but, I bought the Goldwing for function, not looks, lol, and this windshield made a big difference.
I had already cut 3" off the stock GW windshield, and it made it a big improvement, but the Madstad is better, and crystal clear too.

Your next thing will be to get a trailer for it to haul around your Gixxer when it's done....

Crazily enough, my brother has a single tire trailer for his Beemer and he loves it.....he will often take it grocery shopping with his lady instead of the car. It's also color matched to his bike so looks pretty much like a factory option.

I rebuilt the forks last week, with new bushings and seals, and the original owner had already installed aftrtmarket springs, which are over a quarter inch longer than stock.

Ha!
I could!
The GW has a trailer hitch and wiring harness on it already.
I think I could grocery shop without a trailer too, as much storage as this thing has!
lol

The original owner had put in firmer aftermarket progressive rate springs as well.
I'm not sure which brand, as they had no info marked or engraved on them, but they are over a quarter inch longer than stock.
With new wheel bearings and steering bearings, and the Centramatic wheel balancers, and Still a rigid ride...all the puzzle pieces came together on the cheap price on this bike, lol
The front tire that I took off looked good for a quarter turn, then was through the wear bars a quarter turn, was good, then bad again...a sign of too much preload and/or compression.
Keep in mind these are Non adjustable forks too, no Compression or Rebound adjustments, and Preload is determined by the spring rate and length.
Hmmmm??
Well, the forks have Anti-Dive, which is what it sounds like, it keeps the forks from diving under braking.
This works through the linked brakes, and has a cylinder on the left fork, which gets pressure applied from the brakes, and keeps the forks from fully compressing.
Well, add in firmer and longer springs, and now the forks cannot compress hardly at all...and the front tire becomes your suspension...hence the out of round wear.
After a quick GW forum search, yep, that's a thing, lol, disconnect the Anti-Dive and it should be good to go.
I did(I made a temporary spacer and ordered the correct one, yes, there's even an aftermarket mod for this), and, what an improvement!
The bike handles incredibly well now!
The suspension works and gives good feel and feed back.
The only thing now is that as good as it is, it's just a little on the firm side, as if it needed a small amount of preload taken out, or even just a couple clicks of Compression (if I could).
Which now brings me to wonder;
If I remove the oem washers that sit on top of the springs; shouldn't that lower my preload?
The stock fork cap just threads in, but with longer springs, a little effort is needed to start the caps, lol, which tells me leaving the washers out will Not cause a loose assembly, but simply take away some of the spring length/preload, and of course the spring rate cannot be changed(I am looking into other springs as an option).
If I remove the oem spring washers, shouldn't that soften the front end slightly?
These simple forks are complicated, lol
@zeepopo2
do you have any advice or insight on this?
Thanks for any info

I never worked on these anti dive systems. I say get rid of the progressive spring. I hate progressive but to each his own. Is the stock spring a progressive spring as well? If thr anti dive works thru a hydraulic system it's gonna be all, over the place with no real control. Since it ramps up way too fast once the harder part of the progressive spring kicks in. That kind of tire wear the suspension was not being controlled at all. Washboard wear.

I am looking into other springs, but I'm not putting the anti-dive back on, as the bike rides so much better without it.
I am going to remove the spring washers and see how it feels.
