What do you do for a living?

15 years @ Boeing Airplane Co. as a flight line inspector/mechanic. Been all over the company, seen a lot of airplanes. But nothing compares to the feel of a Busa wide open.

I am a fifth generation, mid-western, grain farmer. I grow corn and soybeans on a little over a 1000 acres in central Illinois. Not sweet corn, mind you. This stuff is #2 Yellow Corn and is used in food processing and in animal feeds. Same story with the soybeans. Most of what I grow ends up traveling down the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers to New Orleans where it is shipped all over the world.

Being the guy in charge, I set my own hours and priorities. Being self employed, I have no benefits, health plans, or retirement accounts unless I set 'em up myself. I end up working 80 hour weeks in the Fall and parts of the Spring, but the rest of the year I am not too busy and can pursue other interests. Like my Busa. Or last year's project of buying and then completely remodeling the house I now live in.

In short it is kinda like owning and running your own seasonal business.

Flcn72 you farmers are the backbone of this country and you guys feed the world! Woohoo!
