Why is it?

People talk about climate change and how mankind is altering the earth...I say this is an ongoing process which mankind might have had a small influence but is not the catalyst.

I have been watching the news out of California regarding drought and floods....in the past people have been migratory and if an area gets to be uninhabitable, they move, people aren't moving anymore and are now subject to the natural changes and "disasters" which come with those changes. In some cases these "disasters" are self-induced when people strip mountain sides of trees and then wonder why there was a mud slide....or build a chalet in a known avalanche zone, etc, etc....

I lived in SoCal for years back in the 80s. Every year, we got Santa Ana winds. Every year we got fires. They didn't biotch about it because nobody lived where it was a concern.

But in the ever increasing pressure to build housing for the influx of people, they found ways to build in these places.

Now they biotch about it because they are suffering property loss. Personally I have no sympathy for them. Unfortunately we get to pay higher insurance rates because of those losses. The same applies to everywhere it was stupid to build. I used to work for FEMA. I'd go back to the same flooded areas multiple times to watch us pay our again.

I'm convinced that they purposely price all the fast cars/trucks out of the normal blue collar workers availability. Unless you make big bucks, most of us aren't ever buying a $100k vehicle that is just a luxury.

Why is it that people are so lazy?

We got around 10 inches of snow last night and I see vehicles going by that the driver's never even bothered to clear...they turned on their windshield wipers and drove with only a tiny hole to see out of...

I use my leaf blower on our vehicles....clears everything right off quickly....

It's very simple...this generation, by majority...are Idiots.

I know the police have been catching a few and ticketing them but it would take a pretty big police force to catch them all I reckon...

When I was still serving and went back to a conventional unit, I'd make people clear their vehicles before they drove if I caught them in the parking lot..

I actually had an officer complain to his superiors about me doing this but the brigade commander simply stated that as a Sgt-Major I was looking out for the safety and welfare of personnel on the base so that shut up this officer real quick....

I am not a negative person, but I am basically disgusted by most young people today, 30's and under.
As well as half of them my age(45).
No common sense, no discipline, no work ethic, no respect for others(or themselves), no ability to do much of anything without a screen in their face, self absorbed, and most are self entitled and deserving victims.
As said...idiots.

....while I'm at the "Why is it?" thread....

Why is it that changing a headlight bulb in vehicles is such a pain in the arse? I know the answer-so people take them too the dealership...but a frickin' headlight bulb?

I just noted one is out on the wife's car...I put Silverstar Ultras in it last summer and one is gone already....I bought a set of OEM spec bulbs to go in it tonight.

Why is it that people are so surprised when stupid things happen when genders work within an environment they shouldn't be?

For example, female prison guards in male prisons and vice-versa.......and the list goes on and on...

When I was serving in our military, females and males both occupied the same tent in the field....I was always opposed to this as it set up the stage for some sort of sexual harrassment situation.....especially with the younger people of today.

When we had American troops come on exercise with us, they refused to allow their troops to do this and I totally agreed with them...I tried to sway our leadership to adopt this policy to no avail....when I first joined genders were segregated (as they should be).

Back in my time in the military, after Basic Training we began our technical training. In my case it was 12 months in Denver Colorado.

And they housed us based on our area of speciality. All of them were classified fields. Example the recon photo analyst as well as the Crypto equipment repairmen all were housed in a complex of buildings all in a group. 6 buildings. All Co-Ed.

To say there weren't problems, was an understatement. Late to muster. Pregnancies. Broken heart angers. Etc.

Yes they were all kids I get it.

When I joined our barracks were not co-ed....females were in separate barracks....and female instructors...

Male instructors were only teaching females when they required a specialty instructor and they were overseen by a female instructor...

Our sexual harrassment issues were much less in those days.

There were a lot of "normal" activities that would be considered a sexually hostile environment now.

They had "rules". But they were largely a paper tiger.

Housing young men and women in the same building for a year.

Yeah what can go wrong.

It was like a college dorm life.

I've been noting quite a bit of media coverage on the Chinese military exercise happening right now and how it seems to be setting the stage for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan......

China knows NATO has it's eye on Russia and Xi has been working with Putin a lot lately...maybe he hopes he can encroach on Taiwan before the US can react. I don't think NATO has been engaged in the defense of Taiwan so it would be a US/Taiwan only venture and China knows that supplying Ukraine has made the US dig deep into it's ammo reserves. Kind of like fighting on two fronts.

Yep. I mentioned this awhile back. Japan and S Korea are trying to step up. But everyone knows the U.S. will be the heavy lifting.

Fortunately we have an excellent Navy, and a well toothed submarine fleet.

And we can stop selling and blockade food shipments to them. They'd have a starving population in about 6 weeks.

Not at all saying this will be an easy slam dunk. But Ukraine hasn't really required any of those assets. The Pacific fleet is a pretty formidable foe.

Now, how Biden will handle it, remains to be seen. Based on his strategy shown this far, he will probably offer up Kansas and North Dakota in a trade deal.

Agree with all of this, even the last paragraph.

A naval fleet has a very limited life span these days....even the submarine fleet is easily detected and taken out....AI tech is out there and it can hunt autonomously....

There was talk that if the US and China tangled, the US would win but it would be a very costly victory....and place the US in a very unpredictable position of being vulnerable.

Any naval battle will be fought primary by carrier based aircraft.

That's assumed.....

Carriers will be the primary target and all technical weaponry will be focused on them...

I'd wager their life expectancy will be very limited.

Nuclear submarines are noisy, even the latest versions....they can be quickly detected.
I think it's pointless to wonder if they can be detected or not. The boomers have range and enough launchable armaments to hit whatever part of China that's needed. They are already in place. And probably already known.

And while China is a worthy nation they don't really have the fleet they need or an air force that is state of the art. Yes they have state of the art platforms. But not in quantity. Whereas we have fleets and squadrons in place already in Korea etc.
