I am wondering something.... We all know that todays litre bikes are as powerful as the Bus (certainly very close) and yet weigh 100+ pounds less.... I guess my question is...Why??? Why is the Bus soooooooo heavy??? Now I do understand that it is in a different category from Litre sport-Bikes but 100+ pounds is an awful lotta weight... Where is this weight derived from???

As an aside... I do get more thumbs up from other road users riding this bike than any other bike I have ever had...:cheerleader:

Its dimentions are bigger. Size adds weight. The liter bikes are compact track machines that can also be ridden on the street. The Busa is a comfortable street machine (in comparison to the liter) that can also be ridden on the track.

It's like having a big block vs's a small block in a car. Needs beefier things for the TQ and lower power, plus the motor is bigger. I like the planted feel...

There is no replacement for displacement.

forced induction :poke:

Back on topic...

This seems like a relatively obvious subject. You answered the question yourself Stwbusa. The litre bikes are in a different class then a Hayabusa. It's meant to be different because it's suites a different class of rider mostly. A bigger engine and more comfort features equals bigger/heavier frame which also results in larger fairings.

You're comparing apples to oranges on this one

This I understand...but 100 pounds seems an amazing amount of weight....

Well start with a heavier frame. Add in a larger engine. Heavier duty swingarm.
Metal fluid reservoirs. And a 45lb factory exhaust system and there you go!

So you know with the mods I've done to mine she weighs in at around 490 fully fueled which ain't too bad.

Have you ever had a GSXR1000 or CBR1000RR side by side with a Hayabusa? It wouldn't be hard to understand then.

Everything is aluminum but you're missing the point. The main frame is nearly double the overall size, not to mention the subframe. Compare the size of the fuel tank also and factory exhaust system(HUGE)

Apparently we're on the same page. I think it's rather obvious if you compare a fully stock litre bike and Hayabusa

A litre bike only weighs about 35 pounds more than a 600... Displacement is not the reason....

I'm not sure you're quite getting it but that's where a lot of the weight comes from. A 600 and 1000 share a very similar sized frame and 35lbs doesn't seem like much by it's self but when you're figuring out 35lbs in the total weight of a bike, it make plenty of sense. 35lbs is a petty high percentage of weight when you're talking about something that weighs in at less than 400lbs

My point is ..If a litre bike is about 35 pounds heavier than a 600 and is yet 400cc larger then why is a Busa 100plus (maybe 130 depending on what you are comparing) heavier than a litre bike?? Larger gas tank ..yes but by about one gallon which equals 10 pounds .... for gas and I don't know how much for steel...The point is... I think Suzuki got lazy somehow and made the busa heavier than it could/should have been :beerchug:

Okay, the previous posters are explaining at amoeba level and you're STILL not getting your head around it, but I'll give it a stab: The litre superbikes are made for the track. They are NOT good all rounders and everything is trimmed to the bare minimum and the engine is tuned to the absolute maximum. They reach their power peak at about 50% higher rpm than the Busa. There is a price to pay for that in reliability and longevity and comfort. I admire the current crop of litre machines and all of them in one way or another are amazing, but I am 53 and live in a state with high winds and crappy road surfaces, so a tiny little kite is not for me. If it's for you, great...have at it. But the fact that so many of us chose a heavier, larger machine for more money than we'd pay for a smaller, lighter one should be all the argument you'd ever need against Suzuki being "lazy".

I am not sure I agree with you... My ZX10 made its power at 13000 ..higher yes but not that much higher.... People on here get very defensive about the Bus... I have one and obviously I bought it for a reason..and I'm not selling it so that tells you something... I have a curious mind and I think about "stuff"
Seems its just fatter than it could've been just my opinion....:beerchug:

Oh God...I give up! Your zx10 made more power than the busa? Really?

Never mind, you're right...Suzuki purposely made this bike way heavier than the gixxer 1000 because they're a lazy bunch of sods and aren't able to do any better. Oh, wait up, don't Suzuki make the lighter, more powerful gixxer 1000 too? So they are capable of making it lighter and more powerful and simply choose not to cos, oh hell, who knows? Some celestial conspiracy perhaps?

Hmmm, well, whatever...I'm SURE your opinion is valid anyway and we're all just oversensitive about criticism of our chosen bike. It couldn't be that you're simply unable to understand all the reasons that have been put forward because, I am trying to put this politely but don't have the words: Moderator Edit

Ok firstly... where in my post did I say that my Zx made more power than a Busa?? Secondly I am sorry that your feeble communication skills mean you have to resort to insults!!!
