20 cent RPM eliminator

Hi, I live in South Afria and just finished this 22k ohm mod on my 2008 busa - works great.  However, I would like to install an LED to indicate on/off.  In series to the circuit (with resistor) it does not seem to work (either direction, and LED is working, tested it on a 9V battery).  Should one install it in parallel to the 22k ohm resistor?

Thanks!

There's a switch / led schematic I did.

Thanks for the help! It works great, only 6 becomming 5th if I switch the toggle switch I installed! Great stuff!

Man High-Gain...this is an awesome write-up. I commend you for your efforts. I can't wait to do the mod and who cares if I catch a glimpse of this...or a blip of that. The end result and your time to figure this out for everyone's benefit is awesome!!!

i added this resistor and tried top speed, i got only 302,3km/h, rpm´s were little over 11k... is it possible to get 19 tooth on the front? any link for that?

High-Gain, I just ordered 50 connector sets of the gps connectors for my new plug and play de-restrictor (1N23455), gear indicator, gear based ground outputs for boost control etc., anyhow ill have a bunch on hand if anyone wants to get a set for DIY etc. With your permission i could put some together for guys or whatever is needed etc.

LMK, greg

I'm definitely going to do this when I get home... might even try and solder the connections myself! Unless Greg is putting them together, in which I'd be more then happy to send some bucks your way!

That what i was thinking, unless HIgh Gain hjas objections, it was his idea so dont want to step on toes, or if he needs money for each one i sell etc that could work too.

I know i can put them together, lord knows i am soldering all the time anyway LOL

I have no problem rigging it myself, then getting something more professional looking and paying for it. If I can get them from you then I can pay you and the "royalties" to High-Gain should he so desire them, not a problem at all.

I was thinking of something with a toggle switch that did TRE in 1 direction and the 1N23455 mod in the other, at the moment, dont think it would be able to do regular 6th gear indication though, still thinking LOL

Can you make them where they just turn on and off so you can still have your sixth gear indicator?

yep, i was trying to do a couple of things with it LOL. But as it is here it would be easy to do etc. Waiting to hear back from High Gain dont want to upset anyone etc.

Interesting idea

You could e.g. put an MSD RPM controlled switch in series with the 20 cent resistor. If the RPM switch then is set to 10 000 rpm, the gear indicator would show 1N23456 up to this rpm, and then automatically remove the speed limiter at 10 000 rpm. At this point the gear indicator would switch from 6th to 5, but I guess one have other things to worry about at 300 km/h. The function will be fully automatic showing 1N23456 in all cases except on 6th above a predefined rpm. There is a small issue to solve, where to get the rpm information from. In case there is no switched +12 V from the SCU to the stock RPM-gauge, the information could be picked from the swiched side of an ignition coil. Since this point is carrying large voltage spikes, one must protect the rpm switch rpm-input with a series resistor and two upstreams zener diodes, or a similar solution. This will be very simple for anyone that is electronically inclined. If I get my hands on a used rpm-switch, I'll provide a solution in case no one else will do it before me.

I supply window switches as well, but you can start getting things backfeeding into each other etc, this complicates a simple item, it could be done for sure.

www.boostbysmith.com/nos.html

My new box i am working on does the 1N23455 mod as well as a gear indicator, gear based outputs for boost / nos control etc.

What is the stock max rpm limiter set to? In case it is 11.5 k, one could use your windows switch and set the upper value above the stock limiter to avoid back-flips, and the lower value just below the speed limiter rpm on 6th, which I guess is around 10 k or so for 186 mph.

Where does your window switch picks up the rpm pulses?

How does one change the rpm-levels on your unit, by changing resistor on the PC board or by plug-in resistors?
