Forest fire came through here ten years ago in 2015, burned all the trees on the western half, but opened up all the sight lines

The low peak in the distance is known as Mokelumne Hill

Single lane frivolity - your adrenaline says this is awesome, go super fast, your brain says slow down stupid, the road is still wet in some parts. And it's a two-lane road with blind corners.

Finally after 15 miles of pure adrenaline, it finally gets back to reality.

More pics of this road... it's a thrill ride, but it used to be goat. Bumpy and patched single lane. The new payment is pure delight.

I wrote this article a few years ago prior to the re-paving, it doesn't look like this anymore.

This shot is same road, but 20 years ago.

This bike came with a Sprint race filter. Probably not the best choice for a bike like this that's set up for touring.
See all that dust inside the airbox using the Sprint. Don't you think that's kinda odd? I tossed the Sprint and put in a brand new BMC filter.

Hi. You should look into a DNA filter. A guy on the inter net ( Top Speed Mike) He does do a lot of testing and he thinks they are the best.

Here's the plan for the afternoon. The destination is the reservoir at bottom left. Very cool overlook there.

On my way to work, pulled over, called the boss, gonna be a little late. See ya when you get here, he replied. It was that kind of job. It was also a beautiful spring day in the Sierra Nevada Foothills and everything was brilliant green. Turned the Hayabusa south and took the long twisty way. Fast forward 20 years later, we’re taking the same route from that long-way-to-work day, looping around Jackson. Mountain Ranch, Paloma, Campo Seco, Pardee Dam to Stoney Creek Rd. Our stop along this leg was the Pardee Dam Overlook. We normally have this overlook all to ourselves, but today there was a young rider parked there enjoying the view. His name was Scott. And he was standing by his Honda 919 as the tour group pulled into the overlook. I’ve reached the age were these young fellas could be my kids, and he looked about the same age as my son. As we chatted, a wafting sense of déjà vu swept over me. Based from Sacramento, he described solo riding random day trips in every direction from Sac on the 919. I know a guy who used to do that, I said. He spent years writing hundreds of articles and posted em up along with thousands of photos taken on a quest to ride them all.

They’re all found on this website called www.Pashnit.com I said to young Scott.

I encouraged young Scott to check out it out and pointed to the weathered 20-year-old license plate on the back of the Hayabusa. There are a couple of good roads to go explore on that website for your day trips. It means ‘passionate’ I added. What I didn’t say was 20 years ago I stood in the exact same place with the exact same view on that long-way-to-work day. That was 250,000 miles ago and it all started with solo riding, random day trips, in every direction.

20 years ago in same exact place, taking the long-way to work.

Meeting young Scott on his Honda 919, in the same place I stood 20 years ago. He said things that reminded me of me decades ago. Plus he looked the same age as my son.

Pardee Reservoir - it's completely full - and the snow melt hasn't even started yet. That's a very good sign.

This reservoir was built in the 1920s as drinking water for San Francisco

Nice pics and nice thoughts too Tim. There are a lot of similarities between us (except your penchant for riding before daylight) :D and it’s a wonder we’ve only met once, ages ago.

It really isn’t the destination, it’s the journey. Thanks for yours.

Great to have Scott back with us all the way from Ontario, Canada. Last time he rode with us, was back in 2019.

See this photo? It means the 2025 Pashnit Tour Season has officially begun with another 16 tours planned this year.

Uh Xavier, you're blocking Scott.

We're only a couple of miles from our destination for the evening in Jackson.

Stony Creek Rd is a classic foothill ride. Uphill twisties, deserted and super fun to ride.

I've ridden this road with every bike I've owned for the last 30 plus years.

Completely full right now, but during our drought a few years ago, barely any water in this reservoir.
