Afghanistan....

You are kidding right?

Ever heard about a guy named Qasem Soleimani?

Ever heard about Trump cancelling the Iran deal?

You will probably reply with Trump never started a new war, which is correct, but don’t talk about conflict or ever asking the United Nations for any kind of permission. In fact, he threatened to abandon them.

Sorry I forgot, you are Canadian a country who is committed to the guidance from the United Nations, who in turn is guided by the USA.

Let’s stop blaming Biden’s exit of Afghanistan, the United Nations made the decision to end the war.

LOL
I never mentioned the United Nations, I mentioned NATO....the US has always engaged NATO for buy in before getting involved into a conflict...

Being with NATO made the US have a stronger stance to go into a country......Somalia, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Kosovo, Afghanistan were all US driven conflicts with NATO buy in....it's more fun when you get the rest of the wolves involved...

If you see the above conflicts, Canada was there in some capacity standing beside the US...not because the US directed us, because we are staunch allies.

Afghanistan was under ISAF (NATO) direction...I had a patch on my uniform that said so.

I don't know who is blaming the current administration-certainly wasn't me.

Sometimes I think you just like to argue over almost anything...

Your last sentence at least means we have something in common. But this time you are right, you referred to NATO and I mistakenly read UN. Anyway, pretty much the same applies to NATO, Trump threatened to withdraw twice and the US has the leading role both in direction as well as financial contribution.

It was fortunate he got ousted before this was realised...nationalism of a country only serves to isolate. History has taught us that at least.

Wait a minute.....did you just say I was right about something???? I'm writing this down on my calendar...

No worries Bee I’m one of the first to raise my hand when I am wrong. Probably why my empathy runs a little low towards those who have to be right at all costs, even when they know they are wrong.

I agree Trump had to go, but I do miss some parts of the previous Administration, when it comes to chaos at the borders, inflation now being above 5% over here and probably how the Afghan exit was coordinated.

My guess after the dust settles, is Russia and China will probably help the Taliban towards trying to get Afghanistan back on its feet. A missed opportunity for us, due to 20 years of the incorrect approach.

@jellyrug wouldnt it still be bidens fault? Hes the bus driver who's asleep at the wheel... if I had U.S citizens trapped in a country that is going to go to hell I'd disregard everything nato has to say and save my fellow americans with any means possible... hes the president he has to make those tough decisions and the death of those soldiers rest plainly on his shoulders... even if we had another president that was in power and the exact same thing happen those lives are on his/hers shoulders.

Biden trying to pass the buck or whatever poor excuse he is making is frankly disgusting. I'd be extremely mad if one of my sons or daughters were killed at that airport for a president who cant even take question or read a paragraph without having to stop and collect his empty headed thoughts... Special force are trying to fund their own mission to save U.S citzens but you wont hear about that in the news...

I’m not really qualified to answer that. Personally my thoughts lean towards the Afghanistan Papers, it is obvious that we had four administrations mismanage the entire mission over 20 years. I believe this is the main reason it is ending the way it is.

Asked Bee who was there, why this was not obvious from the start, but seems there are no logical answers.

How do you fight an enemy who may be your friend walking next to you, or even your cousin? How do you this in a culture who has no respect for human life and no morals which the first world can identify with?

I agree it's an impossible war to win without breaking international laws. I just dont agree with bidens way of handling it or the pull out they did.

Did they expect it to fall that fast of course not I dont think anyone really did but they should have had a back up plan to pull people out quickly and less chaotically. They still had the equipment and fire power on the ground to deploy troops to slow the Taliban so the main airport isnt a massive barrel to shoot fish out of. It's all sad that a war that long fell so quick and to rub sand in the wound americans lost even more soldiers during a pull out.

I’m not a Biden fan, but I am pretty sure the advice coming from those high up in the military involved in Afghanistan and others in the administration was taken in and Biden did not plan this alone. If he was given factual information about what was really going on over there and ignored it, I would 100% agree with you. I do not know if this is the case though

I believe the whole Administration is to blame for poor leadership as to the exit strategy, but it is always easy to play Monday morning quarterback.

Trump was a moron, but some of his qualities may have resulted in a very different scenario.

Trump was a Viking, they absolutely do not accept defeat or losing, they have no empathy and will go to any extent no matter what the sacrifice towards achieving their objectives. They absolutely do not tolerate incompetence and normally don’t take advice from others. They are narcissistic and don’t care what others think about them. So I have no doubt he would have handled this very differently.

You would have to go back and read the myriad of posts to answer your questions as they have all been answered...

To recap, even the Taliban were surprised at how fast they re-occupied Afghanistan....unless the coalition leadership have crystal balls to see into the future, the speed of the Taliban advance and ANA/ANP collapse would have been pretty hard to forecast....

Go to your local international airport sometime and imagine the task of setting up not only multiple check points but to establish a secure outer and inner cordon capable of creating a strong defensive position to repel any foreseen attacks....add to this the imminent threat of ground attack and the vulnerability of aircraft either on the ground, on approach or taking off...

That the Taliban has allowed any movement to and from the airport or allow the coalition to be extracting people is on itself pretty amazing....they have enough people and firepower to wipe out everything on the airfield but haven't lifted a finger....yet......and I really hope they don't. The US and allies have to abide by the deadline established....hopefully there will be a return to international flights and the people who are still there will be able to leave...

At last count there have been over 60,000 people extracted out of Afghanistan, all foreign citizens have been extracted and they were working on the requested asylum seekers when they had to shut down operations...in reality, how many people are they responsible to extract? 1 million, more? It would take months and hundreds of aircraft to achieve this if even possible.

What's he running for?
I've met lots of ranking military leaders before who have lots to say but should choose to keep quiet...

No military has found a way to protect from suicide bombers yet-nobody can be held accountable for this act other than the organization who launched the strike.

Military members have to accept the fact they are trained to be placed in harm's way by their nation and accept the fact they are numbers on a spreadsheet...anyone who thinks any different are kidding themselves. When I was deployed on ops, I hoped too get back home but knew there was a good possibility I was not going to be...that's why we have out wills and next of kin forms all filled out and ready to go.

A sad reality of military life-or even a police officer's life.

Met a "merc" in the jungle one time who said "life is easy once you realize you are already dead and just awaiting a calendar date" he was a bit of a nut and spent far too much time doing what he did I think...

What you fail to realize is former president Trump went on the record along time ago with these words. "Everything is a Lie". When dealing with lies that impact foreign policy and events of magnitude the action needed to have any chance of correcting certain situations requires taking action that gets under the roots of the lies. People forget that the intelligence agencies know a lot more about the specifics of a situation than most of us ever will. What you call moronic, narcissistic and other smears as it relates to Trump simply shows us your opinion. We are witnessing a very corrupt world that Eisenhower and others warned us about decades ago.

Its SSDD over and over... only the faces change, meanwhile... the scorched earth policy remains. The reason you don't hear much of anything with substance and action from the White House is because things are going as planned by the MIC and it's connections to Banking and big Pharma.
If you like propaganda keep watching the news... otherwise, Telegram has insightful content for you to evaluate. Post 354 above speaks to the point I am making... is Dennis Healey a conspiracy theorist to?

You can get better intel / solutions on Gutfeld when Joey the retired bomb defuser with 2 missing legs when he speaks as to what needs to be done in Afghanistan.

It's well over 100K they have gotten out and this was not a failure, it was the biggest airlift under war conditions ever attempted and achieved. This was a no-win situation and I think everyone knew there would be casualties. The military found themselves having to defend an exposed position with possible combatants flowing through it day and night.

Any way you look at this it was our guys pulling off another miracle. I was sure someone was going to shoot a C17 down. And Trump released 5K of the most dangerous terrorists into the area before leaving office.
