Afghanistan....

...remember, the former administration started the withdrawal..the current administration just finished it...

Either way one of the other countries were going to be snapping at Afghanistan...
And remember the previous administration also stopped withdrawing to not jeopardize the stability that existed. I don't know what "The Plan" did to address how to insure we install a U.S. centric govt.

Or if there was "A Plan" in place to keep a policing effort in place, to prevent the Chinese or Russians etc from capitalizing on the withdrawal.

Trump was bright enough to know China is a problem to our interest.

I believe either government in power would have had the same challenges the current one had...this was a coalition, not just an American mission...it was American led but there were many countries with brands in the fire who struggled with the same issues.

The US already installed a puppet government to run Afghanistan and were grooming this government from the get-go...we trained their military and their government only to have it all fall apart in the H hour...I really don't believe there was any "plan" in place to protect Afghanistan from Russia, Pakistan or China as it was believed they could look after themselves...

If this isn't a sign to stay the heck out of other countries political regimes...I don't know what is..

It was said before (I believe by Biden himself) that they should go in, take out the Al Qaeda operations and Bin Laden and then leave. For some reason it was decided Afghanistan would be recreated...that didn't work.

Unless the US had a "plan" to permanently station a few hundred thousand troops in Afghanistan, the withdrawal had to happen.

Yes but the PPC is huge this year and people down east are saying hes only going to retain his seat no more, I doubt that its beautiful to see another party to throw a wrench in things, I personally believe NDP and Liberals are in the same bed and conservatives are the new/old liberals... I really like seeing a newer party get alot of support. I think I might vote PPC for the heck of it since the others are no better or worse hahahaha.

Yep, they are all merging into one big mess.....

I liked Harper....

Looks like the Taliban can bend to pressure...if not they will soon learn the country they took over won't be worth a red penny...

Here is the question:

If under the Taliban there are more incidents of Jihad against the infidels here in our precious USA, similar to 9/11 how do we handle that?

Do we act civilized and put our solders back into Afghanistan for the next 20 years, or do we just blow the entire continent to Smithers?

I think the easiest way to stop Islamic terror is to stay out of their lands. That's what this has always been about. They don't want the evils of capitalistic materialism and we wanted their oil. Now that we have realized that fighting wars in this place is crazy expensive and typically unproductive.

I'm betting if we leave them alone they will leave us alone too. But to answer your question, if they come to our shores with terrorist acts we need to blow them off the map. But take note that the terror has gone silent during the COVID pandemic.

Al Qaeda were behind the attacks on the USA....the Taliban were in charge of Afghanistan but allowed the Al Qaeda to operate with impunity instead of shutting them down....Osama bin Laden spent lots of time in the US and was trained there.

Domestic terrorism will the major worry within the US (and many other countries) as home-grown terrorists carry out lone wolf attacks. These attacks are almost totally unpredictable and impossible to foresee.

With any luck the Taliban realize they need the rest of the world to recognize them as a governing body and therefore they act accordingly....is this a reality...most likely not.

It looks as though China is cozying up to them and Pakistan has always provided them a safe haven and has supported them all through their inception.

Sending NATO troops back in there would not be a great plan.

Yep, I agree, if we stop interfering we should be OK. Problem is the worlds are already interfering, trying to tell them they need women in government etc.

Interesting times, China and Russia will no doubt capitalize any available opportunities, humanitarian aid being a starting point.

oh dear..
its just come out on SKY TV, Bagram internment camp (another guantanamo) where thousands were incarcerated without trial. The report says this was a hotbed for further radicalisation. this has created a new breed of hardened terrorists, Taliban released them when US forces fled and there will be retribution.
Essentially this was one big torture chamber. Taliban released hundreds of ISIS-K fighters

This is another own goal from US i'm afraid.
