I can tell James will be just fine... smartass and all is back!
Saw him this morning. He was strapped into a chair. They are going to take him in for x-rays of the thumb. New bandage on the left hand. Speech therapist was coming in this morning to do an eval and a swallow test to see if they can take out the feeding tube now that he is awake.
Right eye is slightly open and swelling looks like it's going down pretty fast. Left eye is open I'd say about 90%. His words are definitely more understandable. Sometimes he lets me play with his hand and rub his head and sometimes he doesn't. This morning he pulled his hand away from me but about a minute later he grabbed my hand. I asked him if he didn't like me playing with his fingers and he answer was "Well, maybe, maybe not!"
I couldn't help but laugh and smile.
He says he knows where he's at and why he is there. But when I asked him to tell me why he was there, he got quite and looked the other way. I took it as an understanding and he didn't want to talk about it. Every day I tell him where he is, what day it is and how many days he's been there. He knows there are people across the country sending well wishes and prayers. There are still emails coming in every day... thanks guys for those, they are fun to read to him.
Now the important part and you can decide amungst yourselves whether to adhere to this request. For today, he doesn't really want visitors. He didn't understand the word "visitors" when I asked him... he said, "do i want what?" "do you want visitors? is it ok if friends come to see you?" and i listed the guys who have come to see him already. He said Doug, Mike, and Eric were ok but not anybody else who he doesn't really know too well. He said he just wants to sleep and he's really tired.
I had to leave and get going to work around 9:30 and he told me to... have a nice day...
