Bentvalve down, car turned in front of him,

Doug... what do you mean I'm delusional?

From his responses to my questions last night... he is fully aware of what he's trying to do and what he's reaching for. He didn't have a problem rubbing on me in front of Eric...

I'll keep my personal recovery methods to myself.
By the way, you can't blame meds when he isn't on any...

I got involuntary movement out of his right hand fingers last night and this morning... the muscles are working in his fingers... he's got quite a grip

Starting to sound like a Harlequin Romance!

Cherie,

Thanks for the constant updates on James.  There are a lot of us, who don’t personally know James, but have tried to contribute in some way, either by donations, e-mail support, and offers of support.  I’m some 2,500 miles away, but check everyday to see how James’ progress is coming along.

Just wanted to thank you and everyone else who lives in the general area, who is continually going by to see James, and helping with his personal issues at home.

There are a lot of other like myself who are pulling for his recovery and you ‘all deserve a big THANKS………….

Matt

ps: Send James' Hottie Nurse A Message>>>> She has a free weekend vacation here in south florida whenever she wants to come party

Come on BV !!! Riding weather is going fast! We need to get to the Oysterfest agian!

I would like to see him back to the same James he was before but that will be awhile. His personality and the way he says things are the same as before. But the physical aspects as far as facial expressions and body movement are far off. By the way he answers certain questions and things he says... I think, in his mind, he thinks he is better off than he really is.

I don't think the accident and details have been fully explained to him. He does not comprehend the extent of the damages done to his body. I will leave it up to the boys to determine if it is getting to the point that these details should be told to him. Even though it may depress him, I feel he should know these things. The sooner he knows them, the sooner he can deal with acceptance and realization of what he is up against and how much recovery he has ahead of him.

The other morning I showed him the pics on his camera of when the bulls came to visit. He seemed to just stare at the pics with him in them. He didn't seem to make the connection that it was him in the pictures. We have pics up on his board that show him before the accident... I wonder if he thinks he still looks like that? I asked the nurses if they ever show patients mirrors so they can see what they look like... she said sometimes they do.

What is everyones opinions about finding a mirror and showing him what he currently looks like?

Something for us to keep in mind too is that since he has started physical therapy, the more involved he gets with it, the more he'll be tired and out of it in the evenings.

There are a lot of psychological implications here that need attention. I don't know james well enough to know how he would take the news in his current condition. I dunno about a mirror, could be good could be bad. It's a hard call though.

WOW That's profound.... What I was thinking about is maybe speaking to the doctors and seeing if they have any recommendations, they might have a better idea of how and when to approach this kind of thing...

I don't think its necessary yet to show him what he looks like. Its probably a little to soon. He has a lot of healing to do that just requires time.

What would be accomplished by showing him himself?? What could he do about it??

Just give him time for now.

I do agree the mirror thing is a bit early, but he should be told details about the accident and the damages he has sustained. We just need to do it a little at a time. Pictures of the wrecked bike would be good, but wait to show them until we know he fully understands what has happened to him.

Thanks again to everybody for their support for BentValve

You both convey what I was thinking. His facial brusing is just about all gone and the swelling is totally gone in the right eye. Except for the feeding tube, his face is back to normal.

I think it may not be a bad idea, for now, for him to be confident that he wouldn't need in-patient rehab. I just don't want it to be a total shock and depress him if he realizes later... rather then sooner... what his limitations will likely be for a few months.

Plus, I think it may be part of the physical therapy stuff. They will show him a mirror when they teach him to shave and brush his teeth with his left hand. I will ask the physical therapist in the morning.

Even though alot of the members here are not local, your e-mails and input are very valuable. As riders, you can give insight from how you may feel if you were in this situation and each persons "life experiences" can provide a different perspective on this for me. For James and from me... thank you for being here for him and sending well wishes and prayers. I read the new e-mails to him as they come in.

I've said it before...
You guys/gals are truly great people... thank you

Oooo, maybe it's just me but if I loved my bike as much as he loved his... I'd want to see myself messed up before I saw pics of my baby all wrecked and messed up. I'd know that I'll mend and get better but a totaled and bent bike... will never be fixed. Plus if he sees how screwed the bike got, he may think his body got just as messed up... but he looks pretty darn good physically.

Doug, since you talk with ZXMurphy and Eric... that's your guy's call. I tell him about the broken femur but I really wish one of you guys would be the one to tell him the extend of everything. Please just let me know what is decided and when it happens so I know what to expect if there is a change in his attitude or thinking process.

Is the bike totaled? Pics? I have a frame! In fact,I prolly have most everything to put it back together.

For a 2006 GSXR 1000?
Nope, this is a dang busa site isnt it? LOL. Is the frame broke or warped? Engine cases? One of my friends just had the neck of his 1000 welded,(too many wheelies). Is it beyond repair? Having said that,I am reacquiring the 05 that I bought and sold, they are identical.

Sorry but James sold the Busa over a year ago and bought a GSXR K6. The Busa frame won't fit the same.

Thanks for all the updates! Keep 'em coming! It's good to hear that he's doing better!

I like hearing about his 'therapy', too!
