Brake fade after parked for 4 days

Update:

Just got back from the dealer. They said that there was a lot of air in the system. They offered to keep the bike and retest but I opted to take it and test it on my own. I have attached the tech and service notes. The one thing that I have noticed is that they brakes are excellent for now. They did not work this well when I picked the bike up at 0 miles.

I let the service rep know that if the brake lever gets softer even without brake fade I will bring it back. He agreed.

It could not be determined if air is leaking into the system or if it was residual from assembly.

Time will tell.

If the problem reoccurs I will update this thread.

Thanks all,
Dan

Yo, it finally happened to me yesterday. :( After having the bike sit for almost a week, I backed up with the engine off and the brake lever squeezed fully. Had to brake with the clutch. Returned to normal after the second squeeze.

I suspect in my case it is related to me turning the engine off with the hill hold engaged, since my driveway is sloped and the bike engages it when I let the front brake go before turning it off. Freaked me out the first time. :p

I always make sure to disengage it, but I somehow forgot. What if the system remained applying pressure to the lines for all those days and that added injury to the already flawed Suzuki MC?

Other than that, everything was normal today. Went for a two hour ride and the brakes functioned magnificently. :)

#metoo, no not really. No issues here but always do a preflight check before riding. I'm looking to put a Brembo RCS on the bike, not cuz of this issue but because that's just what I always did on the track. I feel like this sounds more like a bike set up issue from the dealership than anything else. I guess we'll see if the issue re-occurs after it's fixed

It could be a bike setup issue, but I’m pretty sure we didn’t all buy them from the same dealership. If you are having the issue I would error on the side of caution and have it looked at by the dealership even if you decide to use an aftermarket MC. If enough people have the issue then maybe Suzuki will get involved. Without brakes we all just become missiles.

Many dealerships do not setup vehicles anymore. This company sets up bikes for many dealerships nationally, so there is a possible connection.

I didn’t know this. Good information.

My suspicion is that somewhere in the priming and prep procedure air is getting hung up somewhere as they assemble the bikes. They squeeze a lever and check it off.

After you ride it you loosen up the bubbles and we see what we're having now.

I'm a big fan of priming backwards. I squeeze brake fluid into the calipers and I slowly remove fluid from the reservoir until the lever is rocksolid.

Same issue here now too. Bike sat for 2 days, went to take it off the rear stand, lever went to the bar, pumped it 2 or 3 times and it was normal. Now this is the 2nd issue with this gen 3. Dealer is still working with Suzuki on my stator leaking oil from the wire harness on the cover. They finally replaced it and the replacement leaks too. Losing a lot of riding time with this... Have to dust off the gen 1 at least that is dependable, never had an issue with that bike.

That sure sounds like no fun. At the price point the gen3 is at, It has to be discouraging to be dealing with those issues.

Especially since what it replaced is as reliable as it gets....Suzuki had better resolve the issues or their flagship bike will start sitting in showrooms...

Has there been any word from overseas for this issue arising? Or have all of the issues been NA only?

With all the rain we've had over the past several weeks, mine sat for around 3 weeks without moving or starting it. When I hopped on Monday to ride to work, brakes were normal. I get on the bike after work and have to pump them to get pressure. Happened a couple of other times since as well, no rhyme or reason as to the cause

So are you all checking the rear brakes at all? Or is everyone going to the front lever? If rear brakes work alone and are full pressure then its abs pump forward.

Good observation. Let's see if someone outside the US experienced it. I'm in the EU, never had this problem (knock on wood). It could also point at faulty setup as suggested by @Hayabusa Wannabe , if all NA bikes are set up by the same service provider.
A very good point, we have several out of country gen 3 bikes out there who's owners are on here...
