Brake fade after parked for 4 days

I jumped on my Gen 3 this morning to ride to work and the brake lever went right to the grip. I have 3,000 miles on it. It had only been parked for 2 days. I guess I need to make an appointment. This is my third Hayabusa and I have never had this happen before.
Let us know what they think the fix is.

One of you G3 owners could try a cable tie on the brake lever for a couple of days and see if the lever goes soft. My feeling on this from what has been said, is the caliper seals are pulling the pistons back. check the level of the brake fluid in the master cyclinder to see if it goes up when the bike has been sitting not used. Also i'm not sure about this one, but is there a piston inside the ABS unit that could pull back when it's not used for a bit ? These are just my thoughts.

On my ride to work today, occurred to me that I only noticed this happening not long after adjusting my levers further down on the bars. I think this is a long shot for a reason, but everyone have issues adjusted their levers down as well?

What's different and new on the G3 compared to the G2 brakes?

It has ABS (so does the G2) is it the same pump?
New style brake calipers (other bikes use these successfully)
Different brake MC (clutch uses the same style but it seems fine)
Linked brakes? That is the only difference I can see...

Hopefully it can be resolved simply and quickly....

I noticed mine almost right away. I'll park at the g/f's house and roll back down her longish driveway with the engine off for a little noise reduction.
This happens after a few hours, not days. I can pretty much bring the lever all the way to the grip, until I start the engine. This is the only bike that I can remember that does this. (40 years and 30, or so bikes.)

I'm going to rotate my lever back to a more stock angle and see if anything changes. I didn't have any issues until I rotated mine. I'm 99% sure this is not the issue, but it's free to try.
Crap, I just rotated mine and couldn't get them far enough! I am tall... Will let you know...

This reminded me of...

I bought my VFR and had a major service performed. I got the bike and my tech adjusted the controls for me. I wanted them all the way forward.

I went out for the first ride and the battery was dead. I charged it and went again to ride. This time lights were not working. A fuse had blown. I thought that assuming the service was perfect, what change was made? We adjusted the controls. The brake light switch was touching the handlebar and was shorted! I am not a tech but I see no bare metal or such so I still did not understand it. It seems to me the switch case is conductive (?). WEIRD STUFF!

Thus, stranger things have happened than control adjustments causing major problems.

Hi all,

New to the forum and Hayabusas so it’s sad that this has to be my first post, but the random loss of brake pressure happened to me today.

I have a 2022 with 1100 miles on it. I rode it to work today, which is the first time I have been on it in a week. 35 miles to work without issue. Parked the bike for about 8 hours on the second floor of the parking garage. When I was exiting the garage after work and started down the ramp to exit I squeezed the front brake and it went all the way to the handlebar. I pumped them quickly and they felt normal again and I was able to stop before running into the closed garage door. After leaving I tried to recreate the issue on the way home without success.

I started to think that I had imagined it until I found this thread and after reading the issues other riders have had I gave the dealership a call.

The service rep at the dealership listened to my report and then said that he had another 22 Busa in right now with the same issue. He said that Suzuki had told them to do the brake bleed procedure. He said that they tried to order a MC from Suzuki under warranty and that Suzuki denied it.

I have scheduled an appointment for Friday to have my brakes bled. I want to get it documented for warranty issues and to bring more attention to the issue.

This has me worried because it seems very random. I would hate to have this happen at 75 mph when I really needed my brakes.

I will post updates as they come.

Thanks all,
Dan

Based on this thread, it only happens when you start the bike, i.e. when you grab the brake for the first time. Not randomly during a ride. While it is still a serious issue, it seems we don't have to worry about losing brakes mid-ride.
Now although this issue didn't happen to me (yet), I grab the front brake every time I start the bike, to make sure it still works...

For me I had already used the brakes before I got to the exit ramp of the garage. I always grab the brake when first putting a bike into gear and I used the brake lightly at a couple of corners in the garage before starting down the ramp. So this would have been the third or fourth squeeze.

I just dropped the bike off at the dealership. They were wheeling the other Busa with the same issue out of the service door for a test when I walked in. I talked to the technician who is a Busa owner and enthusiast and the service rep. They were both confident that they would get it sorted out, but were also concerned that this issue is happening more.

The service rep was looking forward to calling Suzuki and “working” on them.

I will update again when I hear back from the dealer.

Thank you, brother, for sharing the details and keeping us posted!
