I'm going to do a full review on these tires, ya'llz...but wanted to give you a brief (maybe urgent) 'head's-up'; as many of you have asked me what my 'take' was on these tires.

I've had them on Wasabi for less than 7 weeks and fewer than 3,900 miles.

Mind you, the reason I even tried these tires is that they were reported to rival the Road2's or 2CTs for longevity and stickiness.

Fail. They're deteriorating; particularly the front.

The separation was noticed after the 2nd run up Palomar yesterday; which made for a "tender" trip down the mountainside and a boring slab-ride home.

Next, I think I'm going to 'try' the much-hailed Pirelli Diablo Corsa III to see what they're like. I think they're a short-wear tire (as well) but I'll probably need to have the rubber replaced again before the Stampede (6 weeks or so), for which I'll more than likely get the many-times-proven Michelin Road2's for that long haul.

Anyway, when the article is published, I'll (as typical) put a copy here for you.

Suffice it to say; if you're looking for a long-wear all purpose tire, you will NOT find it in the BT-016.

Thanks for sharing your experience with these tires. It won't be long before I'll be lookin' at tires so this info helps. I do a lot of slab riding/commuting, so long life is important to me as well as handling/feel.

awww who told you they would run the mileage of the PR2ct? the 0016 is a soft tire as is the Corsa3 and is also advertised by many as a dual purpose tire (Trackdays/street).. Maybe the BT021? (has its own issues)

Corsa3 is REALLY a popular tire for the guys running track days on street tires.. (hint to mileage?) I did get 7500M out of one set of Corsa's but for the other sets I mounted? around 3-4K..

Scar what tires did you get over 12,000 miles on? I assume that they were not too bad in the corners either, thanks

I won't say who told me. It's an .oRg member and would rather not throw him under da bus. He had no experience with them first-hand, only what he'd read/heard. So...

Mind you, I'm not complaining, particularly since I got a smokin' deal on 'em, but...they're not what I anticipated.

I think I'm going to skip the Pirelli experiment pre-Stampede. It's pointless to spend the extra cash right now.

I can get one set of tires now which should last me until I return from that greatly extended trip; or I can experiment and spend another $300+.

I should go on to say...if someone is looking for a 'cheap-fix' tire; this is pay-dirt.

Looking at what you did to the 0016 (looks sort of like you cooked them) My guess is the Corsa3 will go maybe 3K? Shouldnt you be on the Avon Storm wagon? :)

I'm surprised by your experience with the 16s. I bought a set by recomendation from Vman1300 and couldn't be hapier. I love them and haven't had the issues with them shredding up and neither did he, even with his draggon knee dragging all the time. I wonder if you just got a bad batch. . .

 Well, none, but I typically get 6,700-7K out of the 2CTs and the Road2s. Which is inordinately respectable. I don't ride to beat up the tires; IMO, there's no point to exersize as much torque as the bike will lay out everytime I twist the throttle. So, I realize more miles than most out of tires, as I've seen it.

Plenty of stick with the 016s; until the tread started to get thin, then there was noticeable driftage (<--a word I just made up). Of course, this would be the case with any tire.

Far as Avons go, I have never run them, but understand they'd be too hard for my type of riding. Reportedly, Warchild uses them exclusively for his IBA stuff. :dunno:

I've considered the 'bad batch' issue, as well. The guy at FBC said I should get 'hold of Bridgestone. I laughed and said: "do you think they'd have any pity for me?"

The way I see it is: I just got as many miles out of a set of tires as most people usually get. Live, experience, and learn.

Well, I have a set of 2CTs on hold at FBC for $267.50. They had only the Corsa III front, and only the Road2 rear, so since I don't want to wait...I'm just moving forward with the 2CT. Thanks, though!

As mentioned earlier, maybe the Avon Storms would be a good selection for you... Great possibility!

thanks Scar, I think I will go with the Avon storms, Texas has lots of flat, straight roads  gotta ride some to find twisties

Perfect choice for your trek to Reno next month! :beerchug:

That's not a bad batch issue, it's a rider issue of not being aware when it's time to replace a tire! That tire has been run way to long to be safe. What you are looking at is the cord layer under the running surface. Usually happens on the rear when the outter layer gets so thin it starts to pull out chunks. That's not a Bridgestone issue, it happens to most tires under the right conditions.

You aren't the first and won't be the last to romp a tire just a little to long!

Hey Bogus, please give Scar a lesson on the purpose of ware bars!
