Could an R1 beat me?

Yes Revvv wore me out, but I'm not a drag racer and didn't launch hard, but still managed to run high 10s with a stock '06. A shifter would be nice. I had trouble getting my foot up to shift. Had to start with my left foot on the peg.

We need to get you and that new busa out to the track. I had the chance to take one down the quarter a few months back, and WOW!!!. The new Busa will fly.

Is 2 Saturdays at the track for practice, then a third to whoop him a reasonable goal. I know I can't master it in two track days but he's running 11.17 and after all I've got a Busa? Oh also I forgot to mention mine is lowered 1 inch in the front and 3 or 4 in the back.

What's the purpose? As you said, if you beat him, here come the excuses. If you don't, you won't hear the end of it.

Have you verified the 11? What if he's holding back waiting on you.

Does it really matter????

This is Jon Cook's boss...His wife...The only reasonable person who posted on this thread is whitele...First of all...All the guys who told him to get me in check really don't know me...Second...Those of you that thought it would be a good idea for him not to tell me really don't know me either...Like I wouldn't be able to find out...I have eyes everywhere...The reason I don't want him to race is because I take care of people that have had motorcycle wrecks...Its not a pleasant picture...He thinks I am controlling his life...Really I am only thinking of him and our 3 wonderful little girls who want their daddy around...

he shouldnt beat you, but that dont mean he wont if hes a better rider than you.. my 600 put up quicker et,s than his r1???

you got it my 600 put down better numbers than my 1st run on the busa, that kinda sucked but either way 11's is no bragging right for any liter bike.

You are a controlling wife. You are posting under his name and embarrassing him infront of the world. You two need counseling.

Do accidents happen, yes.

Do people get hurt, yes.

Is it dangerous, yes.

Life is dangerous. You could have a heart attack and die without notice.

I race and have 2 young daughters. Is there a risk? No doubt, but with the right gear, the damage in a crash is minimal at best most of the time. I have seen some nasty crashes and watched friends get up and shake off the dust.

This has nothing to do with racing or injury though. I am still amazed at the embarrassment you have put your husband through.

I guess if he is OK with it, then all is good. It's not my relationship. You two have a good life.

As a father and a racer, I see your point. I would suggest to you and him both that accidents happen, and it is a dangerous world in which we live. People die and get hurt in every conceivable scenario, yet we put ourselves in potentially harmful situations on a daily basis. If racing is truly a passion for him, it should at least merit an honest discussion between the two of you. My advice is this: Take the proper precautions, (gear, learn to race/ride safely, safe conditions etc.) and make it a family event. just my .02

hes got a decent edge having more experience. let me tell you man launching a bike at a drag strip is a feeling like none other. drag strips are way different then the street in the way your bike is going to hook. my advice is if you race him dont ride over your head to try and beat him that's where something can go wrong and if you crash your gonna give your buddy another thing to bust your balls about

I've had this same discussion with my wife many times. She rode with me on my 1st bike an 85 Kawi GPZ 750. One nite we hit a dead deer laying in the road and almost went down. Really scared us both, since then she never got back on and hasnt been on my 08 Busa. To this day she says "bikes are dangerous" My reasoning to her is " oh just cuz we had 1 close call she says bikes are dangerous? I say to her and anyone else that says that, Do you drive a car? How many accidents have you seen or been involved with while driving your car? But yet "cars arent dangerous" and you still get in your cat and drive it dont you.. Let your man have some fun. Look at it like this if he does decide to race would you rather him race at the track under controled conditions or do it on the street? If he does go to the track he will have to have full leather suit all the rider safety gear to go on the track anyway, its safer than you might think. Let him do it and shut this other guy up :please:
oh by the way this is by no means a personal attack on you , I hope you dont take it that way. Think of it more of an opinion from a different perspective.

First off, wow... ???

There's no reason that his bike should be able to beat your bike. The question is going to be whether you can beat him as a rider. Do it right though. Practice, practice, practice! Be sure you're wearing ALL the safety gear. I would say don't even start down this road unless you have the leathers, boots, etc. If you want to race, then you should race. Of course it's dangerous, but so are plenty of other things that perfectly normal people do. Consider that there are no bluehairs, drunk drivers, or other similar hazards on the track. If you're going to go fast, the strip/track is the responsible place to do it.

To your wife: I'd like to recommend getting your own username and checking out the Ladies Lair here on the .org. There you'll find women who ride and women who don't. You are also certain to find several voices of reason on this matter. Overall the .org members are a safety-minded crowd with a common love for riding. You'll find a lot of mature, rational thought and conversation on all things motorcycle related. I encourage you to at the very least have an open-minded conversation with your husband about this before you veto the idea completely.

Best of luck.

My wife tells me that all the time. " I hope your life insurance is paid up" I pay it every month, I just tell her not to get any ideas cuz i'm worth more dead than alive.

wow.....

you let your wife tell you what to do.

you let your wife come on here and post.

i guess you don't let her do anything, she does what she wants and you should probably just be glad she lets you ride at all.

anyways, you need to man-up...but you probably won't, you like being told what to do by women. if it works for you then cool, would not work for me.

and based on all factors.....the guy on the R-1 will beat you.

If the wife let me I would practice a couple of weekends before racing him, But He's one of those people that if I won there would be so many excuses. But it's still frustrating.

At the level of the R1 and Busa, the outcome is determined more by the rider than the machine. If he has a few years on the strip, a couple of weekends practiving won't bring you up to his level.

Jon, I'd stay off the strip if I were you. And you can tell the R1 guy that you'd eat his lunch, if your wife would let you.

Come on we are going to loose a member!!!! Well only if she says he cant come back on here..lolol:rofl::rofl::rofl:

WOW!! Some of you guys are harsh. I am not controlled by my wife, regardless of how it sounds, we both tell each other what to do or not do and we both know at the end of the day if one of us really wants to do something we will do it even if the other says no.And then other will just deal with it. But from how her post looked I can understand the harsh comments, But to understand how we are you have to know us,which can't be done on the web. If I had seen that post by someone else I probably would have poked fun too, so no hard feelings. But as far as the negative comments on my relationship, I don't really care, I'm not trying to date you guys anyways. I thank you guys who left positive comments and advice. And FYI I'll be at the track within the next couple of weekends, as long as the wife says ok:laugh:I'll post my times
