EV vehicles

I've posted countless supporting attachments that you either didn't read, look at or agree with....not my problem...

I've also reported on a hot start issue that I personally had and have read about here on this forum....no BS there cowboy....

You don't live in this country so you aren't privy to what someone who lives here sees and hears.....I don't need a step by step breakdown of that data to know our power grid is old and faulty...is it up to the task of adding all these EV power stations both commercial and residential, time will tell....it wasn't that long ago that we had rolling brown outs here in order to control power usage....

What this shining link you posted omits is that over half the wind turbines are in a state of disrepair and not working due to lack of maintenance. Our hydro electric dams are aging and need of upgrades and our nuclear program that once was the top tier is now old and needing upgrades.

This country like many others is short of skilled labor and people to do all these maintenance tasks....

I'm not some sort of keyboard jockey, regardless of your opinion.....

You can find all these just as easily....that's why I didn't post them...I can fill an entire thread if you wish....

The thing is Bee, if you were able to answer all my questions immediately, without having to go find the information, you would have known that it is possible to install a 240V 40 Amp breaker and configure it with controls, so there is absolutely zero effect on your power grid constraints, to charge an EV.

You are one of those guys who won't swim in the ocean, because someone may have peed in it.

I can re-quote the stuff you made up and posted two totally made up contradictory statements in the hot start thread again. You want me to do that again, after you ignored me pointing it out the first time?

I know so far that your city is a bit more advanced in distribution, compared to most state side, as you told me all your cables run in pipes under ground. So I am not sure I believe all the power outages you mention. Tell me which city and who supplies you and we can check that out.

If the power outages are real, what is the cause.?If it was grid constraints, I am pretty sure there would be load shedding and you would be informed ahead of time of each instance. But again, if people make up stuff, at some point no one listens to them any longer.

I looked at your videos BTW. You folks have a way faster and better chance of going totally green, compared to the states. We have a way bigger challenge.

Sticks and stones....sticks and stones.....

You still don't get it, I know about breakers and how power is distributed, what I am saying is our power grid won't handle a mass of extra draw these would create.....we have no peak power here, it is linear and billed the same 24 hrs a day....and what MIGHT work here in my back-water region may not work in more of a larger urban setting where there are thousands or tens of thousands of EV draw happening at any given time...

We have underground power lines in our subdivision, not our county...they are all above ground pole mounted power lines feeding our subdivision so yes, we have several power outages...I wouldn't have gone to the expanse of having a back up generator if the power grid was stable....and I'm definitely not the only one, local electricians are making a living off installing and maintaining these units....

Stuff I made up regarding a hot start issue? Why would I or anyone else make that up and to what gain would it be done I ask? I only reported on what I experienced or read....

If we talk about our "clean energy" here in Canada, ask the indigenous folk who have lost vital hunting grounds for hydroelectric flood plains or who certain aquatic species are now endangered due to the lack of access to their historic spawning/breeding areas.

P.S. I knew you couldn't keep away from this thread, it is probably the most fun you've had all week.....

Nope, you have no idea whatsoever when it comes to electricity. You must be the only guy in Canada, who runs his AC, Dryer, Hot water heater, hair dryer, oven, stove top at 100% full capacity full time 24 hours around the clock. LOL, "Linear Power"

You want me to quote the hot start fibs you made again?

"Fibs?"

What are you some sort of "professor" figuring he needs to scold someone....

Keep your rhetoric and advanced knowledge of everything and we mere mortals will just sit back and revel in the very intelligent and uplifting posts you desire to grace us with.....

I grew weary of you calling me a liar.....the advantage of being behind a keyboard I presume......

Was that the white flag?

Ooops! Them damn EVs again!
That is a mess. All we need is one separator in a battery to fail and all is lost. That goes for any battery, but an EV has a whole lot more battery.

They will have to come up with a testing procedure and eliminate that risk at some point. Would love to know the brand of EV’s on that vessel.

Down here after Ian last year there were Teslas spontaneously combusting all over the place. Seems salt water and them don’t agree. Little bit of salt corrosion an arc and up in smoke.

My electricity just went off again and the recorded message from PG&E estimates that 1K+ homes are affected and it will be three hours before it’s back on. 94 degrees outside and this is the 4th time in a week! One outage lasted 14 hours! My waterbed almost got cold! There are less than 200K people in the whole county and around 10,000 in my lil community. The power grid sucks around here. Imagine hundreds or thousands more ‘appliances’ being plugged in to recharge. All I had on was the TV and A/C and a lamp. Time to break out the candles and oil lamps again. What’s that four letter word that begins with F? Add PG&E to it!

The fire risk of batteries is just a matter of time and it will be resolved. Amazing how fast industry adapts. There are two new technologies, one is a spray on separator rather than a laminate, the second actually has pores in the separator, which dissolve at runaway temperature and cools the failing battery down in 20 seconds.

Sounds like the EV causing the ship fire was a Mercedes. They are new at this.

Have faith. We had some crazy guy go to a number of sub stations with a high powered rifle, shooting holes in the transformers. Took out almost the entire county. Case remains unsolved. There was a protest to stop a drag queen show, so this guy made sure the lights went off right in the middle of the show.

Tom, sorry I offended you. If I recall, you typed a number wrong. Then later I did the same thing, except I admitted my mistake after you pointed it out. Sometimes folks don’t get my dry humor.

For me, the only mistake in life is when a person does not admit his mistake and does learn from it.

On the eduction side, I share your experience with educated folks who missed the practical part and then try and boss people around. I started working for my dad in his steel fabrication factory when I was nine years old, with my hands. With respect, the US eduction system is not vocationally orientated. I went to school in a different country, only after completing a formal apprenticeship. I can honestly say, that I have used at least 70% of what I was taught in school, at some point later in my career.

The biggest asset in life is common sense. You can’t learn that in school. It is a rare commodity in this day and age, unfortunately.
You never said I made a number mistake. You said I can't even type chyt I find on the internet right. Then make reference to your physics level of applied math....yadda yadda. I never found it on the internet. But in your world you must see data or the person isn't credible. Then I find a reference to what I typed. And you call the reference bogus. Never once apologizing that I actually did type what I recalled being said verbally.

I watch you assert repeatedly references to people lacking in education. Make personal bullying statements to several in the process. Both here in the thread and the internet presence elsewhere. You want to discredit data on the internet. But present your data from the internet.

Nobody's references they present are valid. Except yours. You post a statement about the EU that's incorrect. And try to assault my character for it when I reference data to discredit your claim.

You pointed out a link I made was incorrect. For which I acknowledged and corrected. You later make reference to it again. Again using it to discredit me. Leaving out the fact that I acknowledged it was wrong and corrected it

I make a post about total world consumption of power. Before you even review it. Stating it's impossible.

Turns out apparently you discover it's not only possible, but correct. Shall I assault your math mistakes again, dismissing that you acknowledged being wrong about your math? Would you find that humorous? It's your education on display after all.

I readily admit I'm not highly educated. I also admitted my weakest skill is math. If I can find faults in your use of it. You're gonna get slaughtered trying to argue with someone that's good at math.

Perhaps you want to make this about humor now.

Calling people uneducated or a liar says a lot about how you see humor. Is that innate? Or part of what they taught you in school?

Common sense. Common sense in what? How we use math? Or how we view others that have different educations?

In economic math. EVs aren't the solution. Certainly they taught you how to factor in variables in your physics level applied math. Right? I mean I remember that part of math. And I'm nowhere near as educated as you.

Finding humor yet?

Bee views EVs from a place where it's cold and remote. His views aren't wrong. I know other Canadians that feel the same way about EV's he does. We have our LA guy who loves EVs. They are much more practical to sit in traffic jams in. His views aren't wrong either. I lived there in SoCal. Elon did a great job at creating a stand alone electric HVAC to use while you sit in traffic. That innovation alone makes an EV worth it in places like LA. Ford, GM, take notes. It wasn't that difficult.

Then when I caught up on reading. I saw the irony. When asked if you own an EV. The answer was no. With the reasons you stated. That was where I found humor. You the defender and champion of EVs. Doesn't even own one. Glad to see you could be doing more to help the environment. And chose not to. But then to call others names when they don't. Pretty humorous.

This is Bee's thread. I think he has shown a wealth of patience in being called a liar. I would venture a guess his education level would say he'd prefer to kick your teeth in that rather than find humor in it. In that regard, he is highly educated.

To give you a comparison and ignoring most of the reasons why my dad lives in Damascus. He only gets power for 1-2 hours a day and it’s always at random times. That’s it. Been that way for almost ten years now.
As bad as it is here in some places I hope it won’t be as bad as it is elsewhere.
I don’t see how countries like Syria and most of the rest of the world will ever drive or have EVs. People barely get by now as it is. How will they afford them? How will they charge them? Where will they charge them as the grids are laughable in the rest of the world?

OK Tom, I read your note, understand you and Bee feel offended, and will leave you guys to this thread without further comment.

That's not what I want.....

This thread has merit....we just need to check our emotions at the door and get on with the debate at hand.

There has been a great deal of information passed along in this thread and it's always good to learn and be taught something new.
