EV vehicles

Question: You think Tesla is doing dismally as a company, just checking?

Have a look at total revenue, Toyota versus Tesla numbers world wide, third quarter 2023YTD and let me know what you think?
No I think Tesla is doing dismally as a solution to our problems.

I've outlined the summary of why Musk is brilliant as it's leader. I can add more. But being a vehicle manufacturer wouldn't be on the list.

He has in the past and still to this day, tells us TESLA is a technology company. He's using a vehicle platform to foster the technology. His technology is decades ahead of its time. His vehicle quality is a couple of decades behind.

Toyota etc don't get carbon credits added to their bottom line financials. Or self driving license revenues. Etc. etc. Even though they build a much better car than TESLA.

I've never heard of anyone buying an ICE vehicle that needed an engine or transmission any time soon....once an EV gets to a certain point, battery charge fade is a reality...

A friend bought a Tesla new, has had it 3 years and it doesn't hold as much charge as it did and it won't get better over time......all batteries have a shelf life...I know ICE engines do as well for the most part but many ICE vehicles I know of, the body falls apart before the engine does.

I know personally unless I'm painted into a corner and have absolutely zero choice, I will never own an EV.
Exactly. You can buy a TESLA and put 400 miles a year on it. The batteries will clock out and need replacement.

Look up how much that cost on average.

Now add to that the cost of an accident that may happen. Or the cost of a piece of road debris kicking up and piercing a battery cooling line that is exposed.

It doesn't take much to exceed the total amount of $$ saved by plugging one in.

LOL, I know that, the reason I was just yanking your chain.

Congrats on the new SUV, is it the V6?

They look nice.
It is....and with the lead foot my wife has, her license will soon be in jeopardy....

She found a used one with low kms but all the options including vent visors, a hood protector, lifetime rust protection and Weather Tech floor mats...

There is no bargaining at a dealership these days....but we got this for over $800 less expensive than what a similar used one with similar kms on it is going for so that was a bonus...

My experience might be distorted because it was a GM dealership but we did quite a few engine and transmission jobs and the parts department sold engines and trannys to repair shops quite a bit. Also, the variable cam timing created countless other problems, very expensive ones as replacing the cam and lifters requires removing the heads.

If you haven’t seen it, it must not be true and I imagined all of it LOL

The phrase I posted was "I" have never seen it, I've not worked in a dealership so my experience is different....

I do know for a fact that nobody in their right mind would buy a modern used vehicle in need of an engine or transmission and I would equate that to a used EV in need of a battery in the near future....why would someone buy a vehicle that can only accept say a 75% charge...that would make zero sense to me.

....and I wouldn't own a GM product either...

The fact is future problems don’t always identify themselves so buying used, ICE or EV, is as you said earlier, a crap shoot. Checking service records is good but still no guarantee.
Agreeing with the spouse is usually a good idea
By the way those Edges are good looking vehicles congrats

Hi. I got a good deal on my 2006 Honda Civic it now has over 522 K runs good mileage about 34 to 38 mpg. I hope maybe another 200K. If needed I will put in motor or trans because every thing out there is way to much $.

Last 2 times I went to a wholesale auto auction, I watched Japanese cars with over 200,000 miles clocked on them all get heavily bid on. I asked the dealer that took me what's up with that. The dealers don't offer chyt in trade in value with those miles, and the ones buying them at auction are sending them to other countries. Caribbean, South America etc. They are considered low mileage quality cars.

The American cars with 200K languished at auctions. The American culture is to buy a new car every few years. Americans are underwater on the majority of vehicles they buy new. Sort of sad really. I think so many young people could use a good car even if it has 200K on them. And put another 200K in them.

There is currently a 2016 Model S P90D Ludicrous Edition up for auction with 66K miles. Bids close on Tues. It's @15K. The #1 asked question is have the batteries been changed. Answer is no. That car was $140K, 6 years ago. 66K miles, and needs batteries. Sounds like it may have been in Ludicrous Mode a few times too many. I don't know if this version uses significantly different batteries, but assuming a 20K battery cost replacement, lets see what it brings for a final price. Like anything used, if you sell it cheap enough, it can be counted as a used car sale. 15K may be all it's worth.

Edit: I just did a little research. Owner was in Atlanta and tried to sell it previously, unsuccessfully for $29K in June. Same mileage. Batteries were obviously bad then as well. So I'll venture a guess either owner walked away from it, or they didn't give him crap for trade in and they are trying to dump it now.

Obviously I don't believe all the videos out there but if this wasn't real, I'm sure GM and it's band of lawyers would have been all over it...

I do know that when we were at the Ford dealership there were lots of the Mustang E and Lightning trucks that have been there a long time-I asked the salesman if they were selling and he whispered that they were not.....at all....

Bee. Your problem is you are just hard to talk to because you think you know things you really don't know about. If only you understood physics level math, you'd be able to understand the problem better.
