EV vehicles

Used EV’s are selling great, but new not so much.

Lithium prices are less than 1/4 compared to last year, expect battery prices to come down.

An acquaintance of mine was having a problem with his Kia EV, it wasn't holding a charge and would run down quickly....they found out he had a dead cell in his battery and it has to be replaced......thankfully under warranty though.....he has around 15,000 kms on it...

He got to go into the service bay and he said he was shocked by all the technology they had to go through to find the cause of his issue....

None of them (or Kia) has had to change out a battery in one of their EVs yet so this should prove to be a first.

Unrelated to EV.

My exgf bought a Infiniti Sport. Dual Turbo super techie flagship the 1st year they came out.

She was having a problem with the turbo cooling circuit losing coolant. Nobody knew how to work in it. Isolate it, or troubleshoot it.

They ended up having some Infiniti engineer in Japan get to the bottom of it.

So any new tech has growing pains and learning curves.

She was in a loaner car for weeks when this happened. It left a bad taste in her mouth.

But when the tech was working, sweet Jesus it was nice!

Right now the EV landscape is experiencing a bit of a challenge.

Lithium prices are rock bottom and Albermarle, the largest lithium producer in the world has lost 2/3rds of its stock value, or market capitalization.

Tesla seems to be surviving just fine though, would be interesting to see how the Cybertruck features, they have about 4 1/2 years of sales on a waiting list, but those orders can be cancelled at $100 a pop.

Yes, we see this with the Gen 3.....a bike which is an old/new platform that has a few issues to plow through...

In 1994 I bought a new Eagle Vision TSI and it was trouble from the day I brought it home....I almost enacted the Lemon Law and still kick my own arse that I didn't....it was a beautiful car to drive and had this deep pearl metallic red paint that when buffed up was gorgeous.....but there were so many issues that I traded it with 40,000kms for a pick up truck.....the salesman almost tripped over himself getting to the car as it was sitting there glistening in the sun...at the time of trade, everything was working as it should but I wasn't rolling the dice...

.....so I get where you are coming from.....

Diesel / hybrid fire destroyed 1,500 vehicles in London Luton airport, the media say it was a diesel fire

the truth is it was the Battery.. you don't want on of these in your Integrated garage / house

i can't find the clip which shows a fire at the point where the battery was installed it was on fire then a massive fire balll - diesel does not do that
EV manufacturers are withholding the truth including the Fire department as this will destroy the publics trust

Is this code for saying things don't look so good for EVs without coming out and saying things don't look so good for EVs?

I seem to recall there was a Gen 3 starting issue that started out small and had the naysayers denying it. And it eventually grew bigger and became more commonly undisputed. I don't have a Gen 3 so I didn't stay focused on it.

The gen 2 also suffered from this as well....mine included.

Not sure about if the gen 1 suffered from it.

LOL, only time will tell. China demand is down and the big guys this end are not selling. Also with 2024 expectations for a new President, the EV push may be gone.

Looks like you and Bee win this round. :D

So is this code for saying you were wrong and should apologize for your insults, without having to come out and say you were wrong and should apologize for your insults?
Well uncle Tom, if you feel I insulted you, then I apologize, as that was not my intention.

I don't think there is a right or a wrong here, some folks buy EV's, some don't and some will find everything possible out there to play down the feasibility of an EV. I don't have an EV and won't buy one at this stage of my life, but none of the machines in my factory runs on ICE motors, they are all electrical and some have seen no maintenance for more than 30 years.

If I was doing around 17,000 miles a year, I would strongly consider an EV, but I don't and there is a calender life on the batteries, so at this time they are not suitable for me. Even the Hybrids, there is a calender life on the battery and if the intent is to keep the vehicle beyond 10 years, work in the cost of a battery replacement. I had a Prius, did 220,000 miles without replacing a light bulb, but first time the battery warning light flashed, I got rid of it.

We have to accept that Tesla has been very successful and those trying to follow them competitively are enduring a lot of costs and a lot of pain. Some of them may even abort.

China has 15 EV companies and the top of the list BYD is ahead of Tesla in terms of sales.
