EV vehicles

Long before I'll purchase an EV yes.
Let me know how it works out for you.

In my next life, I don't want to be an Engineer, it is just too frustrating in dealing with people who know what they don't know.

That's a good plan for you. You wasted a lot of your life thinking you were a good engineer.

First time seeing this old thread. Not up on the why. It seems to be a boom for China currently. Not into EVs. Not into being forced to do anything unless it’s absolutely necessary.

You may be right, as far as I remember though, heat transfer calculations were first year college.

Think we can teach a high school kid to do that in a couple of hours though.
Could be. Math is math right? Every engineer comes up with the same answer. Math never lies.

Just today I woke up and said.....man I haven't used any high school Algebra this month. What a world we live in.

Don’t worry about the math, we live in a world where politicians are crooked and paint manufacturers scam innocent people.

I still can’t get over the scam where they used Musk’s picture, with a device you plug into an outlet and half of your electrical bill disappears.

And people get away with that stuff.

So do EV gurus.

I thought you were going to buy the 900 miles plus Toyota with a 10 minute charge. I mean, you seemed impressed with what you posted?
I said 3 simple words. "This is progress."

You came up with a whole lot of assumptions on your own.

Oh yeah, I forgot, there is still the grid problem, the fire problem and the replacing the battery every couple of years problem.

Yep, you are right, only a little progress.

If I ever buy one, going to try your paint though, see if I can stretch the miles without using the AC.

I would recommend you hire a professional. You don't strike me as a good painter either.

I watched an interesting program on BNN this morning. They had a scientist on there speaking about EV and their induction into mainstream.

He said the evolution from horse to ICE car was fairly rapid in the large scope of things....but he cautioned that in those times, not everyone had a horse and people in large urban areas couldn't afford a horse so the majority of people either used public transportation or lived in walking distance of where they worked and shopped. The introduction of cars to the general public which were affordable created urban sprawl and people could move outside cities....

We roll around to today where there are more cars per capita then ever before with some households having multiple cars and the issue lies at how we can replicate and substantiate the number of EV required to replace ICE....he said urban centers will have the most challenges in converting over to EV due to not only power requirements and upgrading of grids but where to charge the sometimes millions of EV where owners have no access to public power.

He said a change to the very mind-set of people will be required....there will have to a reversal of how people currently live and go back to an urban lifestyle instead of the lifestyle we currently live....car ownership will become a luxury more than a lifestyle and the indent of public transportation will have to make a resurgence....

He sees a future where ICE will be phased out and those who still want to drive them will have to take them to approved "tracks" and join clubs to do so....there will be no gas stations available to the public. He also sees all vehicles being autonomous and individual car ownership to be outdated...if you need a ride somewhere, you would set it up through some sort of app and the vehicle will arrive at a time specified by the person requesting it....

He said this will negate the necessity of home charging stations or even driveways thus reducing the amount of petroleum needed for paving.

Vehicle (EV) ownership will revert to the wealthy much like it was before.

He didn't give a timeline for this but he estimates no more than 40 yrs in the future.

I'm skeptical of course....nobody should be shocked at that revelation....

Yes I touched on this in this thread. I recently went to New Orleans. We discussed EVs. If you live in or near the city you usually get no garage to park in. Most of it is street parking. It is slightly better you will have a driveway that has space to leave your car. So you'd have to imagine an extension chord, specifically a 220V heavy duty one to string out the the EV.

Even if you get past that thought, thieves will be constantly harvesting (stealing) the chords for the copper.

What could possibly go wrong with that transition?

That last line was sarcasm for the particularly dull tools in the shed.

Hi. The part where they swipe the copper will be so true.
