It just doesn't stop

Never seems to stop….

The shooting death of a 2-year-old by a 4-year-old who was riding in the same car has led to charges against a man who was with them and owned the gun. Colton Dean Mammenga, 33, of Welcome, Minnesota, was charged Oct. 26 with two counts* of second-degree manslaughter, one count of child endangerment, and one count of negligent storage of a firearm for possessing the gun that enabled the shooting to occur.

*(the “two counts“ must be in error)

Two men were accidentally shot by children in separate incidents on Oct. 22 during the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources youth deer hunting season, according to authorities. In the first incident, a 45-year-old man was shot in the leg by his 12-year-old daughter. A 50-year-old man was shot by a 10-year-old girl he was supervising while hunting. Both men were taken to the hospital.

All three shootings were absolutely preventable. The two men will just be sore for awhile. The two year old is dead.

The number of shootings lately is shocking....every time I open my computer to my home page there seems to be a couple more shootings and some of them with multiple victims....

We had a family event this weekend in Ybor city, Florida and some of our relatives decided to just book a room at a nearby hotel. They told me yesterday that something had happened, because they heard a lot of sirens, right around 3am. We looked it up and were shocked to read the details. They said they heard some noise, but were not sure if it was from all the bikers leaving in their loud motorcycles at 3am (clubs and bars in this county close at 3am) or something else. When we arrived yesterday afternoon, there were several news trucks in the area and we even joked that our little event was getting news coverage.

What did they think was gonna be the effect of locking people up for almost two years for the plandemic? What did they think was gonna happen when they cheered defund the police? What did they think was gonna happen when rioters and looters went unpunished?
Peoples fuses and tempers are gone. Doesn’t seem like people have respect, compassion or care anymore.

The "lock down" during the pandemic isn't an excuse for the behavior of people even though it is a convenient one to use these days...

Crazies who have no business with a firearm have been getting their hands on them and killing others for a long, long time in the US.

How is the question and what to do about it is the other question....taking citizens firearms from them isn't the answer but there has to be a solution.....how many innocent bystanders have to pay the ultimate price while this is being debated?

The lockdowns created all kinds of psychological side effects which we are now seeing in ever increasing numbers. People not being able to handle reality and snapping all too easily I believe is one.
We are now finding out police were at this guys home six weeks ago because he expressed desire to commit a mass shooting. Why was nothing done then? How was he still able to have or acquire guns? In almost every single case we’ve seen recently huge red flags were waving proudly and again and again ignored. Next we will find out he was on some sort of psycho tropic anti depressant drugs. ALL of them have similar factors which continue to be ignored. If you just spent two weeks in a mental hospital because you heard voices then that should be entered into the system and tied to NICS which would disqualify you. It is not now. That needs to change.

I see this as the primary issue in this particular case not the pandemic....perhaps the aftereffects of the lock downs are catalysts in other cases.....I personally didn't find the lock down to be a real issue, nor did any of my circle of family, acquaintances and friends...it might have been a bit different here though.

The police are so worried about being wrong and being crucified that they aren't doing their jobs to the full extent and in other instances they are over-reacting due to all the violence towards them they are enduring....

It’s not that they are afraid. It’s the HIPPA laws preventing things like time from being shared and entered. It needs to change. Being prescribed certain drugs? Disqualified. Expressed maniacal intent? Disqualified. I’d be willing to listen to reasonable things like these. But their ‘common sense’ bans are not even considerable to me.

Something certainly needs to be done, that's a fact.

We’ve always had buku guns. Ask yourself what’s changed in the last 40-50yrs? We had guns then but not mass shootings. Why are people different? The gun makes it easier but not possible.
I'm not sure, gun violence has risen here as well....

There are lots of things to blame, social media, both parents working more not raising their children (or single parents) , violent video games that desensitize people, more drugs and the overall "entitled" generation of today?

My own personal observation has drawn me to the conclusion that the younger people today think very much differently than those of the past, there seems to be a lot of anger out there these days and not just from the pandemic, it was around before that.

Here in Canada, the government is waffling on the gun ban they put out banning over 1500 weapons....they then launched an amendment which was to include several more firearms but have rightfully so back tracked on this amendment.

The council of police chiefs has told the government that this firearm ban will not do anything to curtail gun crime here in Canada as most of the guns used were illegally obtained or made. We already have a very robust gun control in place here and the chances of a bad-guy getting their hands on a gun from a legal owner is very slim.

Like the US we have background checks and have to take courses in order to obtain firearms, we have separate courses for different types of firearms and you can't buy them unless you have these courses. Then we have a very strict storage law when it comes to them and owning a handgun is more of a pain in the arse than what they are worth.

We have no castle law or stand your ground law and no carry laws....

But we still have lots of gun violence in the big cities....

Kids have changed but they are still kids. Might have something to do with easy access to extreme violence thru social media or simple movies. I never saw anything I was t suppose to till I was old enough to do so.
But I’m still betting it’s due to drugs. And I don’t mean illegal ones. The USA especially is inundated with prescription drugs. Just about every commercial on tv is for some drug that’ll fix something. We are over dosing people now to the point they pop. I also think antidepressants are a huge part of that.
Where are the stats showing then and now comparing how much antidepressants we used to take compared to now? Things like that, gender blockers and all kinds of other weird ass drugs are frying peoples brains in my opinion.

I don't really think prescription drugs are responsible for most of the gun violence these days...I'd like to see the stats on mass shooters if they are on some sort of prescription antidepressant or something.

I think the route cause is lack of parental guidance....

The most recent mass shooters have all had mental problems. All of them were on some sort of drugs being prescribed to them. Let’s see a comparison chart showing what they were on. I’d bet there are some common drugs between them. Random gang violence is another thing. These mass shooters are all flipping those lids due to what they were on. I’d believe that before I believe the guns made them do it.

I'd like to see that list of prescription drugs they and the thousands of other mass shooters were on....

Guns obviously didn't make them do it but they provided a very convenient mechanism with which to do it with. Where they got these guns is the next question...if they were legal gun owners or not. If they were legal gun owners, should they lose their 2nd Amendment rights if they were on these sorts of prescription drugs?

I would bet you'd have a huge argument by gun advocates that they should never lose their firearms for any reason...

So in the last 50 years, how has society changed, do we teach the same principles? Do we have faith in god or country? Are family’s still that or are they all checked out and on their phones? Principles, social media, kids are no longer boys or girls, they think they are toasters or something else. Guns are not the problem, people are the problem. Social genocide is the problem. But I do know this, I got pie, and coffee.

That is all

People are definitely the problem but the very easy access to guns makes them a lethal problem.

There are gun owners out there in the US who don't even know where all their guns are....this can be a problem when the wrong person finds them and then uses them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, I digress and do agree that the social family unit has changed considerably over the years...parents have no clue what their kids are up to and kids can very easily have a secret life hidden in social media.....

When my kids were growing up, we took and active role in their lives and each and every meal was taken at the kitchen table as a family....even so, when they got to a certain age and social media became a thing, we lost a bit of control over them and they could have easily strayed down the wrong path......it was only through strength of resolve of 2 parents that we kept them on a somewhat even keel....if we weren't diligent even for a short while, they would stray...

How many parents in this day and age put the effort in to keep their kids on the straight and narrow?

Speaking of pie, it's been a long, long time since I've indulged and I'm due.....
