MLK B-Day & Obama Inauguration

Obama is a "communist muslim"!? Oh my gawd, this is the most unaware, most uninformed statement I've read in quite a while. How anyone could parrot such a point of view, to me, lives only in the Fox/dittohead bubble. The current Republican party is so out of touch with the heartbeat of America, it is dying a slow and illogical death.
And as far as the rest of this strand? There's nothing worse than white guys pretending to know the depths of black culture, MLK's idiology and "where he would stand" re: President Obama. If it wasn't so absurd, it would be laughable.

Well said.

Well I knew this thread would pull a few out of the woodwork. But I thought so what? It's a great day and I'm still going to enjoy it.:thumbsup:

how is that different from caucasian and white. Its only an adjective. How is he not normal?

this whole thread was aimed at the fact an african american achieved something, not greatness was achieved. The fact that you and others wish to segregate our societys achievements by the color of their skin suggests african americans are anything but normal.

Nothing was achieved that hasn't been done before. Celebrate mediocrity all you'd like like, but I doubt well be seeing headlines anytime soon describing anyones skin tone other than an african american, and when it does happen you'll celebrate thinking you and your race have broken a barrier. When in actuality all youve allowed is the barrier to remain up.

Also, do your coworkers say "hes a good black worker" or "hes a good worker?" Lets say you hear someone that didn't like you say hes a lazy black worker, I'm sure you would be fine with them defining you with adjectives right? I would never describe one of my coworkers with an adjective such as youve put it. Either theyre good or bad, throwing race into it benefits nobody, unless you just like to play the race card.

You really sound defensive and racist. Maybe you're not but you sound that way. I forgive you for your weakness though.

Now im defensive weak and racist lol. Good day to you, ill know from now on anyone that disagrees with your perspective is as such. One thing I can say is ill never align my own or others success with the crutch of racism.

Hes as much white as black, and I dont necessarily agree with defining people by just the color of their skin. It was the term used by o.p. So I followed suit. If we had an indian president should he be the brown or red president? Just my stance not meant to be demeaning.

That's a good point. In referring to him how would you and what actually sounds less discrimatory or insulting?
Half white or Half black?

The point of this thread was that yesterday was a historical moment. Obviously you disagree. Don't know how because it was. Unless you can tell us all when was the last time the first non-Caucasian male was re-elected POTUS and had the inauguration was held on the same day as one if the most influential civil rights leaders is recognized.
As I stated before I really do not care about others opinions and I'm not trying to recruit anyone to agree with me. But history is history right? Oh and by your words "your race" I assume you are referring to blacks right? So you talked yourself into a nice little 360 also know as a circle.

Actually they do. They say I'm one of the few straight males in my discipline. And when it's time for HCP they say I am one of the few straight, over 40 black men in the discipline.
You continue to live in your fairylike world where race isn't a factor and I will continue to live in mine where it is.

And the word for the day for you is achievement. Here are a couple meanings of the word.
1. something accomplished, especially by superior ability, special effort, great courage, etc.; a great or heroic deed: his remarkable achievements in art.
2. act of achieving attainment or accomplishment: the achievement of one's object.
So I guess it was an accomplishment.

So a coincidental date is a historical moment?

Now I'm wrong in referring to your race as your race, youve inserted theres differences. How should I have worded that you among others in the african american community think this is a special time. I guess I can celebrate the first time a white man gets elected after a black man as a historical moment too.

Incorrect. Race is a factor because of ignorant people like yourself waiting to play the race card, youre no better than those you say that make it a factor in your life.

Discrimination is virtually non existent in todays society. Its way too easy to get caught up in a lawsuit with that mentality. If anything the agendas pushing minorities into positions for "equality" is giving you the upper hand over those that are non minorities.

lol typical. So now its a historical accomplishment? Lmfao

Also, that maybe true, but I don't think you understand. I black man making it to the presidency is reason enough for a black person to vote for him. Also, what choice do we have? Nothing on the right that's for sure.

While I understand the logic Arch, If I said that "a white man making it to the presidency is enough for a white person to vote for him".., someone would label me as racist. Al Sharpton would get on TV and emote live. Jesse Jackson would come to my front yard and stage a protest. My point is that racism goes both ways, neither of which make it right. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

The fact is, we will never know how many black people voted for Obama solely for the color of his skin. Or, voted against him. But, given the demographics of the voting population, it would appear that more white people voted colorblind than black people did. Maybe the right could get Alan West to run, now THAT would be interesting...

Its funny how its ok to use these terms to describe someone in a positive light. The minute a person would do so in a negative light, racist.

And here I was SO hopeful through the first page....*sigh*.... :banghead:

Look, it's a touchy subject for everyone. Being able to discuss it without rancor or getting out of hand is difficult and nearly impossible in a lot of other forums, but is good for all of us to gain understanding. I enjoy debating Arch, he's very intelligent and articulate. Just can't agree with his politics, but he and I come from widely differerent backgrounds (he's never jumped out of an airplane :)
