MYTHOS went down hard

Could have been Vickey looked at the pics and thought, "hell he took car of half the job himself already, might as well tell him to get it debrided." I had sort of wondered why she never asked to see pics in the first place. So I'll be making an appointment and hopefully get some ongoing professional guidance. I'm not so sure they will debride. The skin underneath looks nice and pink with no debris.

I don't want to doubt your nurse friend, but that white membrane is nothing to be alarmed about. You can see pink and healthy, you're on the right track.

IMHO

Day 9: Absolutely true, Tom. The salmon pink of my wounds was praised today. I tried to get into a family doctor but they had no room so i went to urgent care. It'll cost me but I got the wound cleaning routine done. It started with a soap and water wash of wounds where the nurse dug out some dead tissue. Then I had three at a time on me picking dead skin out with tweezers. It was very painful but not worse than a 25 minute back spasm and i knew they were helping.

The report was, "wounds healing well, no sign of infection, continue cleaning and cover with ointment to keep hard crusts from forming."

I thought I was ok but it 's worth it to know for sure because I could loose a leg if I'm not ok. With the dead meat eliminated, I will heal quicker. I think this will cost me 800 bucks but it will be worth it.

I think my nurse friend was just to busy to play an active roll so she made the safest recommendations without addressing the hardest questions. I can't blame her, she never saw the wounds in real life. I don't do what I do for free and I sure don't expect others to either. I paid for what I needed in the end.

I probably would have been ok to continue treating this on my own but it would have been weeks of wonderinng if I were doing the right thing or the wrong thing. I would not want to do the wrong thing for very long or the consequences could have been grave.

I can show pics of my salmon colored wounds. They took them and I had to sign off on them but I own the rights to those pics accirding to the document I signed.

They did recomend a tetanus shot and here I cheaped out. It will cost less to make an appointment with a family doctor and get that. Funny thing about healthcare, they often can't tell you what things cost but they have no problem billing you for them. I asked the price of everything, and they couldn't tell me. Who can blame me for being careful about spending? Everything has a price and you need to weigh benefit verses cost even on your health. That shouldn't be the case and that's why I'd like to see a US universal health plan that works for everyone.

If your due for a tetanus shot definitely get in to get that ASAP, other then that keep up with the light layer of neosporin or bacitracin on the wounds like you been doing and be sure to only put the non stick pads against the wound (made that mistake before and it's a painful one) then wrap with a light layer of gauze to hold them in place. And make sure to change at least 2 times a day but 3 to 4 is better. If you use liquid antibacterial soap and lather in your hands and was them off only using your hands it's a bit more tolerable and if you have a handheld shower head it's a lot easier to rinse them down. I usually give it 10 mins or so to air dry before putting more neosporin on, just enough that the water is dry but not enough for the wound to start drying out. If you keep up your routine you'll be healed up in no time trying to remember where the wounds were ;). Like I said I've treated a lot of wounds this way (luckily not all mine) and have actually had nurses ask who had dressed the wound before we made it to the hospital and even once was sent out of the e.r. triage before filing out paperwork to get charged when they seen I was already doing what they were gonna charge me obscene amounts of money to do and show me to do at home.

I have heard if you don t have health insurance in the states the hospitals and doctors wont look after you ? In Australia if you are a Australian citizen We have a health system called Medicare which covers you for everything no questions asked But of course wage taxes here are among the highest in the world You be on that bike in no time Mythos

I dropped $600 on my dog earlier this month for a dog bite, infected. But $800 on me!?! I better be dead if I'm going to the hospital
I'll spare no expense to make sure my boy is ok but I will not go to the hospital unless i can't stop the bleeding or broke something. When I had my accident a few years ago, I only went to go get checked out because my family insisted I go. It takes forever to be seen and costs way to much for medical attention.

I will look for nonsticks. I have been using ordinary gauze and wetting them as I remove them.

I will be changing dressings at least twice a day. I'm sure three or four would be better but that would be costing me at least $30 a day and taking a couple hours.

I don't have a handheld shower so I use a plastic bowl to pour water on the wounds as I wash them.

What you have been telling me matches up to what I'm being told by the medical pros I've talked to.

I think they have to if it's an emergency but as soon as your stable, they will boot you out. I've been poor enough to qualify for state insurance and it was the best insurance I ever had. I never paid a dime.

It takes forever to be seen and costs way to much for medical attention.
I'm hoping I won't faint when I see the bill. I already got knocked out by the accident once.

The grandmother of the kid who woke me up told me it was in fact him and the adult with him called the ambulance. I was told the ambulances come from Ojibwa which is the same town I crashed in. This is good news because it means I wasn't unconscious for more than a few minutes. If this info matches up with the other story I was told, the guy who called the ambulance also saw the deer which means he happened across me very soon after the accident. Maybe the deer lived a while after the collision, then went in the woods and died.

I was also told I will probably get a bill from the ambulance even though I didn't use it. I just talked to the guys, actually...they talked to me. I don't feel like I owe for any ambulance services.

They were just fishing to see if the ZRX is for sale :poke:

Partially true. By law you cannot be turned down for healthcare. Particularly I'm an emergency situation. However hospitals are pretty good at "diverting" patients that don't have insurance or means to pay. They just make it someone else's problem to write off.

Funny you should mention that, a guy I know is going to the Iola swap meet soon and he said he would look for a 1440 cc ZX-14R engine for me so I could buy and put in my Gen1 ZX-14. Then he wants to buy my Gen1 engine from me and put it in his wind boat! He said the thing already flies with an engine that runs at much lower rpm.

Here's an interesting tidbit I picked up at the gas station, the guy who called 911 was a doctor and didn't want risk liability so he left me there. From what I heard, the guy saw the deer and everything. I can understand but there's no way I'd just leave a person lay on the road like I was. I could have been run over. The police said the call was just for a guy laying in the road. The ambulance came from 30 miles away and arrived minutes after I awoke so I estimate I was laying on the road almost 20 minutes. I still have no idea why our rescue squad 10 miles away didn't respond. Oh well, glad I saved them the trouble I guess but I would sure have liked to have been taken out of the road instead of laying there so long.
He obviously wasn't a caring health professional. Probably afraid of his own shadow too.

He could've stopped his vehicle, backed it up, turned on his hazards, and waited for emergency services to arrive.

Ya know I'm gonna try and frame this part up some. Not trying to defend anyone or any profession. There are chytheads in every profession or walk of life.

And maybe I left out some details as this post has gotten some legs and I may not recall what was posted.

Do we know what type of physician this physician was?

Should he or could he have done human things like flashers etc. Absolutely. So I will offer no defense there.

Was this doctor an eye doctor? A urologist? A neo natal specialist? I'll venture an We don't know to that. So OK he's a doctor. Would an eye doctor be much help in rendering aid?

Now here's the part that sucks. And I spent a lot of time discussing this with a physician I dated for 2 years. Doctors by nature wish to help people. Yeah some turn into asshats by demanding 1M a year to help a professional athlete or a cut open a brain but hey if I could expect that for for helping I wouldn't say I'm not worth it.

So let's table for now what they make and focus on they get into the profession to help people.

Now I'm a helpful doctor that rolls up on Mighty Mythos here. Bleeding, unconscious and who knows what. This doctor has an instant problem. If he stops to render aid and mighty Mythos dies, now the doc has to start answering some unpleasant questions. Usually by at least one attorney. Did you render aid. Yes. And he died. So maybe you didn't render proper aid. Pay up. Or you rendered aid and he still died. We're you qualified to render that aid? Pay up. Or did you stop to render aid? No I wasn't qualified, I'm an eye doctor. I kept driving. Pay up.

Doctors are an attorneys favorite targets. Not because they might be good doctors trying to help but because they can siphon $$ out of the doctor's insurance policy if someone dies or is crippled or brain damaged. Doctors are as pissed about this as you are!

We were out at a bar listening to a band once. A man who was drunk, fell backwards out of his chair and split his head open on the edge of table on the way down. Split it open badly! Bleeding like a faucet was turned on. Unconscious.

She said we need to leave NOW! I was like wait can't you help till 911 arrives. No we need to go now. She left and I hurriedly paid the bill.

She explained this to me on the drive home.

One of the factors to our splitting was as a result of a patient from 2 years before we met. A heavy smoker, died of lung cancer. She spotted a spot on his lung, results came back negative. She suggested strongly he stop smoking. Asked him to come back in 6 months for follow up. He chose not to come back or stop smoking. Developed cancer and died. She was sued for not being aggressive enough in her treatment and follow up.

Her carrier advised her to settle for 1M or they would drop her coverage if she took it to trial and had to still pay out. They would pay out but drop her. She was insured for 2. Which is EXACTLY the amount she was being sued for. Not once as part of settlement suggesting she was a bad doctor or did anything wrong.

It crushed her! She literally could not feel confident in herself after that. She just lost her spirit. She withdrew and started spending weeks not wanting to get together.

I talked to my doctor neighbor about it. I watched her change and confided in him. It's a REAL problem for the profession. Malpractice cases lead to divorces, substance abuse, referring patients out needlessly.

So doctors have to grit their teeth and NOT risk becoming a payoff when they see mighty Mythos lying there as they drive by.

So that's an alternative outlook for us to try to understand.

Yeah it sucks!

I saw her in March of last year by circumstance. Just before Covid set in. We never spoke. She has aged 15 years in the time since we broke up. She has ballooned in weight. Her face was defeated and cold. I can only imagine what Covid did to the physicians morale!

She had such spark in the time I knew her. She LOVED being a doctor. It's all she ever wanted to be since she was 9. She put herself through med school. Paid of all her student debt after 15 years of practice. She tested in the top 5% in the nation on her board recert exams. 5% of all doctors in all areas of practice (Brain and athlete doctors mentioned). I was immensely proud of her!

Because a smoker that she touched, died of lung cancer.

It sucks!
