Russia and Ukraine

This is the weirdest invasion I have ever seen,,,,a large force such as the Russians should have taken the Ukraine in a much quicker time...it's almost like it is deliberately going slower than it needs to be.

If this were say the US invading the Ukraine, they'd be conducting mop up right now....

(not that I want Russian success....I'd love to see them sent packing).

I think there is a purpose of demoralizing the enemy by a slow pounding rather than a simple destruction and replacement of the govt. Wear them down, show the rest of the potential enemies what awaits them.

Plus they can go slow enough to let the logistics keep up.

Trying to occupy Ukraine is going to be costly in resources. Nevermind if the EU is trying to extract you.

They’re gonna need ‘funding’ from somewhere.

The danger is that public opinion in The West will demand something more stringent be done such as a no fly zone if Kiev gets the same treatment Sarajevo and Grozny got.Shamed NATO into doing something. A talking head on the box, says she believes Putin would use the ultimate sanction.A nuke.
Just a theatre one would have to be responded to in kind

This will continue for years. Under Russian occupation, the Ukrainians will remain defiant, they will not accept Russia. I believe their determination was totally underestimated by Putin. I really believe he has sealed his own fate with this miscalculation. He will be ousted by the Russian population somewhere in the near future. I can't imagine him sustaining support when the entire Western world isolates him and his country feels the pain.

We may find Putin started another similar to Afghanistan war, yet more sophisticated, but with no end in sight.

Time will tell.

I am thinking Putin wanted Ukraine intact so he could put it's resources to work right away...pounding it into oblivion wouldn't fit that agenda....I figure he'll have no choice but to either withdraw his forces or destroy all he can see hoping to beat the Ukrainian resolve down...

I'd wager he will not withdraw.

the only person who can intervene and broker an agreement is China
Putin fears Xi jinping who is as ruthless as he is

I read on some news feed scrolling along the bottom (don't know the source as I wasn't tracking down the info), that said Ukraine would not allow Biden to broker a peace deal but would accept China's role there. And China has said that it will have to wait til after the Olympics.

He didn't bank on the citizen resistance!

If you come fight for your country, we will bomb where you and your family live.

Pretty powerful persuasion.

By that time, there will be a lot of death and destruction....it goes to show how interested China is to do this brokering....

I think he thought the Ukrainians were going to welcome his troops with open arms as liberators...

Little did he know they want nothing to do with Russia and many are willing to die for their cause.....pretty hard position for Russia to be in....he will take the country but not the people and will be fighting them until there aren't any left to fight.

It would if Putin was thinking rationally.....
Well we have still exempted the oil production from sanctions. But that could change tomorrow. And Russia is reorganizing their central banking system to a new clearing process (like SWIFT but not Swift.). They have 339 members that they can still move money around in.

Which might get him some cash help in the short term.

But yeah once they can't sell oil, (although they can always sell it illegally), his war machine will be difficult to keep going.

Then unfortunately I think he will really put the Ukrainians in a vice. Hostage negotiations.
