Russia and Ukraine

Someone else thinking what I may be thinking.

“Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman, Emeritus Professor of War Studies at Kings College, London, wrote this week: "It is now as likely that there will be regime change in Moscow as in Kyiv."”
Cross our fingers for this....

Standing back and watching from afar
You see Zelenski ramping up the narrative to escalate the defence response from EU , NATO
An interesting take.....we are seeing an invasion through the eyes of the people who are being invaded...and it's not a pleasant sight...

On the other side of the coin, Zelenski knows that as soon as he opens his mouth, the west opens up their wallets and hands out a boat load of cash, support and arms...

Our government here has sent hundreds of millions of dollars (and it just seem to stop) along with weapons and defensive systems along with flinging open the doors to any and all Ukrainian refugees who come here and are offering the farm to them...

....and to top that off, they have told our citizens it is up them if they want to go join the fight.....

I still think this is a very, very dangerous thing to be doing by allowing totally untrained citizens to go and place themselves in harm's way like that.

If peace is to ever be brokered, just wait until the first POWs arrive with Canadian passports...or worse, what happens when these international brigade people start getting killed...did they sign a waiver from their government absolving them of any and all responsibility.

It used to be part of my old job to protect our citizens at home and abroad and I personally have put my own life in peril going in to rescue people who should have never been in the predicament they were in.

yes, this is the most likely a regime change , but it will take years for this to happen and in the meantime the destruction will be immense

we are just starting to see the ramifications that will effect us all - wheat price up 40% in a week
Ukraine farmers unable to plant this years crop, Russia sanctioned Inflation pressure will continue causing morre rate rises.

All commodities hitting all time highs, Nickel , Aluminium, oil which Russia is rich in.
Gas (petrol) increases will really hurt the american consumer and the economy.

economies survived covid but this is serious and could cause a world recession :(

I did my service in a different country, all of us did, there was no draw, all males had to. Been in action, so I am not a newb. I have encountered the Russians before, when they were still the Soviet Union.

But if I was a total newb, never held a gun and I was at risk of losing everything I worked my whole life for, because of a foreign invasion, I would fight to the end and give my life if that is what it comes to. I would not feel entitled towards any protection, other than my acceptance as a brand new soldier to join the fight.

I understand where you are coming from, but these folks are desperate, as they have to choose between death or losing everything they have, including their country.

I believe the ME is a totally different situation, as these are tribal issues dating back thousands of years. Ukraine is different, they are Russians part of the same family, invaded without any just reason whatsoever.

i observe younger folk on these online war sites saying we should nuke them
all keyboard warriors not understanding the consequences of M.A.D.

It's also ironic that whilst all the rhetoric on the ground between EU Ukraine and Russia

yet high up above USA and Russia.. do the below:-

It seems almost as if Ukraine is a war game, Green light for Putin to go in hard

US-Russia hotline set up to prevent 'military incidents' - reports The Pentagon has set up a new hotline with Russia's ministry of defence to prevent "miscalculation, military incidents and escalation", a US official has told the news agency Reuters. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the US source said a "de-confliction line" was established on 1 March. The US military has created hotlines with Russia in the past, including during the war in Syria.”

I agree, if someone was invading my country, I'd go into an insurgency stance and make life hell for them.

I have seen people fleeing their country when an invasion happened, people were scared to death, then got to their destination, got angry then wanted to go back into their country to fight.......

I wonder if the upwards of a million people who left the Ukraine stayed and formed human circles around say a village or city, I think the Russians would avoid them and it would baffle them to no end..I really don't think the Russians would harm them. I also think if the farmers were out planting fields, the Russians would avoid them as well. This is a weird invasion and things like these would be effective...

Look at the people standing in front of armored columns forcing them to take other routes or the Ukrainian farmer joking with the Russian armored vehicle commander asking if he wanted a tow back to Russia...

I don't agree with foreign fighters going to fight in the Ukraine though....they become basically unpaid (or maybe paid) mercenaries who still represent their parent country in the eyes of the enemy.

I have noted several news media "features" on people leaving Canada to fight in the Ukraine...it strikes me these people are looking for glory or they wouldn't be talking to the media...if I were to go do this, I certainly wouldn't be advertising it.

People looking for glory are a liability.

The consequences of M.A.D.

Perhaps that is what mother nature intended, long term, to save the planet for many 1,000's of years into the future.

Below is a link to the unknown fella, who created the Georgia Guide Stones, at the height of the cold war.

I did some copy and paste, but the link is below for research.

  1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
  2. Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
  3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
  4. Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
  5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
  6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
  7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
  8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
  9. Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
  10. Be not a cancer on the Earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.

MAD =dust cloud in atmosphere blocks all unlight = death of plant life no photo synthesis , animals starve - we all die except maybe those in far flung places

we crossed that number in AD 1650

and all the key facts are wars and expansion we never learn

Putin wouldn't go quietly.
If economic sanctions eventually threatened his position by degradation of living standards plus a steady stream of body bags from an unpopular War, he could threaten to use his nukes or threaten to supply a terrorist organisation with one. There is just no telling what he would do if cornered. There are older wiser heads in the Kremlin.

Yeah I don't know about that. That tank veered to purposely hit that car without any provocation.

They included a nuclear reactor in their attack.

I think instilling terror in the civilians is Russia's concept of war.

Which honestly is pretty effective.

Few western cultures would feel it's OK to risk women and children as a way to stop an enemy.

Really hard to say what the Ruskies would do in that case.....I don't think they'd run them over....

How many wars have been fought of which there was a nuclear reactor involved? I honestly think the Russians thought the defenders would surrender rather than risk a fight near that reactor....the Russians thought wrong.

I applaud the people of Ukraine for their resilience, that same resilience will get many of them killed and perhaps put millions if not billions in jeopardy if one of those reactors was breached.

Wars weaken the world.

Wars weaken the world.
Yes and no...

They can weaken bonds between certain countries which were on the fence before the conflict..

They strengthen the resolve of people-look at how it has strengthened NATO and the people of Ukraine
They are normally good for the economy when production increases-people are put to work.
They bring the strangest of people together in a common goal.

They hurt the environment
They destroy infrastructure
They kill people
They eat up natural resources

They have also been waged ever since there were humans and have shaped our society to what it is and will be.

I can’t believe how much of what the news has been showing is getting fact checked and lots of videos are from years prior or not even in Ukraine. It’s like covid all over again the news jumps on everything and anything without proper fact checking or research. This goes for Canadian new to American to Europe news.

I've noticed that as well....

I was just discussing this today. It's like the media is trying to draw us into a direct conflict with Russia. Don't those stupid people know that putting us and Russia across a battlefield means killing on a scale never seen before?

I think the use of nukes is almost inevitable. The law of, if it can happen it will. Not neccesarily in this conflict. But one day. Can take your pick as to who would be the most likely. Unfortunately there are enough countries with sufficient hatred.
I remember watching a programme whereby something alien flew over a US missile field and stood down the minutemen. Turned them all off.

you would think that a nuclear war would be very unpopular by 99% of the world population. Its always the 1% who by their choice of madness seem to decide how the 99% are effected.

The Ukraine situation is a poop sandwich for the Ukraine people, Putin/Kemlin wants to push the western Europe influence out of the Ukraine the west want to push the Russian influence out of Ukraine.
