His forces aren't too worried about winning any hearts and minds....
That ideology will strengthen the resolve of the Ukraines.
His 'forces' are like all soldiers, just following orders. (His) ideology is strengthening their resolve but to what end? As much as I don't think we should be the world's policemen, a part of me wants us and our allies to squash (any) threat to world peace. What if NATO accepts Ukraine as a member (now) and goes forward to protect them?

That would give Putin an opportunity to declare war against NATO...and although NATO is more powerful, the loss of life and property would be staggering....not to mention the big red button getting pushed.
I was just saying to the wife the Russian troops are just troops and doing their job as much as we might not like it. Collateral damage is the saddest part of war...look at how many cities were completely obliterated during WW2 but that didn't slow the bombing program down even a tiny bit.

I just watched a video of some Sky news team members taking fire. One was hit and wounded and another took two rounds in his body armor. These guys were not armed, just news people and photographers. They believe a Russian recon unit might be the shooters. Some serious film being shown on all the news channels, some in completely bombed out civilian housing areas, people running, hearing females screaming…I just can’t get past the idea that Ukraine’s allies are holding back, afraid to escalate their ‘defenses’ (enforcing a no fly zone for example) for fear that Putin will escalate his assault! Escalate his assault?! Ukraine, a sovereign country with an established government and economy is under attack by a foreign power who intends on occupying them. When (does) the world respond in kind?

Perfect testing ground to see how good our new F35's can enforce a no-fly-zone.

It will be at the point when Ukraine has to surrender unless they decide to fight to the last building and man standing.....Russia will not stop and they will only escalate their attack....the stiffer the resistance, the stiffer their response will be....how many Ukrainians have to be killed before this is realized.
Similar conflicts have been in the US recent history......Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan (although Afghanistan had NATO article 5 supporting it). We've seen the end result of these invasions...nobody wins and those countries are still in shambles.

The minute they invaded a peaceful country in Europe, slaughtering people. without any reason whatsoever that is already the catalyst for WW3.
Only the Naive will believe that if the rest of the world allows Putin to get away with this, it will end with Ukraine.
WW3 will not be ONLY the problem of Russia...let that be known...nuclear fall out will spread all over the earth....
WW3 will be nuclear....that's why cooler heads have to prevail....hot heads will get NATO into a war we don't want...
I don't condone what Putin ordered his military to do however the US has been doing this for years-I've been there and have seen the outcome of their invasions first hand....it's not pretty.

IF and that's a big IF we get into WW III, there is nothing that says it has to go nuclear.
Unless China joins in the war at that time, it's going to be a war of the European nations. We may or may not join ( probably would but I'm not thinking with direct fire combatants). However I would venture a guess we know how to shoot a nuke out of the sky once launched. We've been doing successful intercepts for years. I was around for the dinosaur version of warhead intercepts, and we were getting good back then. And technology is generations better since then.
I don't think the world will stand by and watch Russia exterminate a country. I think we will have some hardware in the air probably something like staying in Ukrainian airspace and deploying deterrents over the border from inside Ukrainian airspace. Thus not invading.
Right now Russia is still staying low tech. Saving it for the just in case the big boys get involved.
The rumors of European nations donating airplanes has been debunked. And we are refusing to make a no fly zone.
They just emboldened Putin.
I would say there are more than a few subs sitting off the coasts ready and willing just like the US has....
Nobody wins in a nuclear resolution but by that point, nobody will care...
Technology has advanced in many ways, Russia has already shown their hand with Hypersonic missiles and in my experience, what is shown to the public is only a fraction of what is available.
Who would enforce a "no fly zone?" fighter jets would and that would entail shooting down anything that didn't comply....then the SAMs would become a threat and the next thing you know the air assets are engaging ground mounted SAMs, then anti-air artillery would come into play and the next thing you know, the air assets would be engaging those and so on and so on...
NATO in creating a no fly zone would be entering the war.
The world sat by when the US invaded Iraq, Syria, Libya, so what's one more country?
Putin has already shown he's nuts....I wouldn't put a lot of faith into him not doing something stupid..

The Ukraine was not given NATO membership so that senario you described wouldn't come into play. NATO isn't interested in going to war over the Ukraine and so they shouldn't that would be stupid
