Yes. Still many in Damascus including my father.
Lost three relatives in recent years fighting radicals in the north though.

So what? I'd like to spend some trillions on our infrastructure, our education system, etc.
As Ukraine drags on, we can't really stop spending on it now. It has essentially diverted money away from our problems that need to be solved. For gosh knows how long. Now we have depleted some of our own war reserves and have to spend more to catch that back up.
Sorry, I'd rather pay our teachers more. Or have a safer railway system. Etc.
The defense industry never sleeps. Gotta sell those bombs and bullets to somebody so they can sell us more. Ukraine will drag on for years. Think Afghanistan or Chechnya. The Russians are in it for the long haul. Are we?
So what should we have done instead? Just let Putin take Ukraine?
I hope so. A lot depends on who we elect in 24.

Maybe. The folks at the pentagon and the ones whose names we do not know are really running things. I’ve always thought that no matter who is potus or what side they are on that they answer to higher powers. There really has not been a period in time in this countries history where we were not at war or involved in one somewhere.

the west had the chance to help Russia into more democratic ways after the dissolution of USSR in 1991.
USA hawks preferred not to , NATO promised not to encroach after 1991... but on it went and on and on
Cuba missile crisis - Russia encroached on US space and quite rightly backed down
USA,UK,EU ratchetting this up onto borders of Russia its similar.
Back to Sudan, US had no envoy in Sudan until Russia then wanting to park their war ships there, suddenly US wants to get pally with Sudan, gives $200million

Agreed to an extent. I think potus helps to determine where and with whom that inevitable conflict will be.

You can add all of NATO nations together, and we have paid more than all of them combined. Germany is probably the largest economy of all of them. They need to be wassaayyyy more invested in this.
