Russia and Ukraine

The world believed Russia when they told us how great their military was. We shouldn't have.
I think their military was decent but a whole bunch of errors wore it down by attrition....

The Ukraine invasion was very flawed from the onset which destroyed much of their assets...

Then NATO got involved via proxy and introduced western strategies, tactics and weapons of which Russia wasn't prepared or able to counter.

Stupid things like dropping in paratroopers to take an airfield but no plan on conventional forces to marry up with them to relieve them turned that mission into a suicide mission....then lining up kms and kms of vehicles on a single road for days was just waiting for those assets to be eliminated....

....and the list goes on and on.....

I took a lot of advanced strategic and tactical courses and cringed when I saw what Russia was doing-cringing only because I could see death and destruction coming to those troops....

You'd be surprised how many assets and personnel an invasion requires, especially the invasion of a country with a standing military...Ukraine had a decent military that was being trained by the west long before the Russian invasion....remember Russia never gained air superiority nor did they shut down the "eyes and ears" of Ukraine by destroying all cell and communication towers...and they never held the airports or bridges....

Taking a large city is a daunting task, holding one is almost impossible unless you are seen as a liberator and Russia is not viewed as one contrary to what they were led to believe prior to the invasion....I think Putin believed the Ukraine people and military would lay down arms and greet them as liberators....and when they didn't, he didn't have a back up plan to execute.
That all makes sense, from the perspective of Russia is trying to take over, vs just overpower, destroy and win.
After the media talks about something enough, I like to ask elsewhere...to find legitimate info about what is really going on, lol

Even overpowering is a huge task...

Even though it was less of an operation, before NATO went into Afghanistan or Iraq, there was a lot of pre-invasion prep...satellite, spy plane and drone images were scoured over and there were ground assets inserted covertly to identify and paint high value targets...

Afghanistan and the later invasion of Iraq were difficult only for the fact the targets could easily blend into the population and this population was not necessarily cooperative with NATO and US forces and would actively hide and cover for the insurgent forces...

It was next to impossible to deploy enough ground forces to occupy and control large urban centers which allowed the insurgent forces to maneuver at will.

The same goes for the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, it seems the preliminary prep prior to the invasion was omitted and the result was clearly evident by the failed and stalled progress of the Russian invasion forces...

Russia will eventually flatten every square inch of ukraine. There will be nowhere for guerilla fighters to hide. They have time on their side. We do not.
Look at any video from there. EVERYTHING you see right down to each tree branch has been obliterated. Russia will succeed in making the entire country uninhabitable and nobody will be left to even think about rebuilding or living there.

Unless Russia gets help from China, they will run out of weapons to do this....and Ukraine is getting stronger...and more importantly, have the entire free world behind them...

Russia is fielding T-55 tanks and very poorly trained conscripts that is the level of desperation they are stooping to...stubbornness and blind following of Putin are the only things keeping them in Ukraine now. If someone were invading Russia, the tables would be turned like they were in WW2.

Before it gets to the point of the utter destruction of Ukraine, NATO might step in.

No they won't.

No they won't.
They have already flattened half the country to rubble. Every one that lived in those cities is gone and won’t be back if ever due to the fact it’s all destroyed. Sure the west may eventually wear Russia down and cause a pullout like we did in Afghanistan. But this isn’t just mountains and goats. It WAS thriving modern cities, gone. Can’t rebuild that in a couple years. It’ll take decades if it’s ever done. Russias goal, depopulate the country by flattening cities. It’s working.

Russia will never run out of weapons look at the land mass, resources, population and manufacturing capabilities they could ride this war out for years to come. They may go broke but don't let western media fool you Russia is currently levelling Ukraine to rubble and they can do that for much longer than Ukraine can defend even with NATO's help. Ukraine is currently getting weaker and more war fatigued.

Rebuilding has been done before in many other places....and will be done again.

Russia's goal was to take Ukraine intact and incorporate it into them....once they found out Ukraine wasn't interested in re-joining the Russian empire, they shifted gears and are now doing the only thing they can-resort to Soviet tactics...

I disagree and believe Russia is in trouble but are too stubborn to admit it.

The invasion of Ukraine is not supported by the Russian populace, this is necessary for success.

Russia is really feeling these sanctions-so much so they are desperately reaching out to other bad actor states for support.

Russia is losing personnel and equipment at an alarming rate, most of their premiere tanks regiments are gone, their Spetznatz units are pretty much wiped out and they are relying heavily on the Wagner group which is also being battered.....

I can see this war escalating to include more hands on from the bad actor states and NATO.

Ukraine forces are getting stronger, better equipped and better trained thanks to the west who will not let them fail.

Everything you just said is info gained from our media sources. How do we really know they’ve lost that many? How do we really know spetznaz is wiped out? I’ve not seen piles of thousands of Russian bodies have you? We are getting the ‘It’s all peachy keen’ bs from western medias. Throwing billions and billions to them I do not think for a second our govt or anyone who supports ukraine would ever say ‘it’s not going good’ publicly. For all we know Russia could be on the verge of victory.

Because at some point you have to choose to believe someone.

What else can we do other than rely on media....why would they hide these sorts of facts...

You come across as pro-Russian with this post.

The us govt has proven to lie constantly.

They would hide true numbers from us so we don’t start asking why we are still supporting a failing effort. Not saying that’s happening. Only that I believe we would never get the bad truth from them. They will always say things are rosy no matter what.
Pro Russian? Cmon man! That’s what one gets labeled with for simply asking and doubting?

Bee. You have to admit. We've both been places for our govt, that was nothing close to what the public hears happened.

I would agree to this, often times media will report what we want to hear in order to establish a known agenda..

In this case I work partially from media sources and partially from learned info from other sources.

In this, I don't doubt what the media is reporting in many cases regarding Russia and Ukraine. There is a benefit to NATO by painting everything is going well for Ukraine as it keeps the purse strings open.

In most cases depending on the situation, media I've worked with were fairly accurate in their reports. Sometimes they had too much information made available to them which came close to compromising missions.

Fortunately I didn't have to work with media very often due to the nature of my former job...

Do you honestly believe Russia has lost 100,000 troops?
If that was true our media would have made sure we saw the rewards for our dollars. Some dead guys here and there. Some videos of tanks getting hit with various weapons. Some videos of guys getting drone dropped bombs on them. Ok fine. 100,000? I don’t believe it.

Just judging by the means that Russia is forcing conscription and hastily sending poorly trained and equipped troops into combat, I'd say those numbers aren't far off....whether the 100k includes WIA and KIA together is the question...

Russia is hurting, they've lost huge numbers of armored and light skin vehicles as well as ground attack aircraft...

That information is first hand.
