School shootings

this is what makes me sick when I read it
“Neither the Constitution, nor state law, impose a general duty upon police officers or other governmental officials to protect individual persons from harm — even when they know the harm will occur,” said Darren L. Hutchinson, a professor and associate dean at the University of Florida School of Law. “Police can watch someone attack you, refuse to intervene and not violate the Constitution.”
maybe... but police directives and procedure dictate otherwise.... I dunno what up in florida but in NY.... lotta great people in LE... and the NYT is totally and completely against LEO.

i know being in le..... if I see an individual in distress, heart attack or otherwise.... I have a DUTY to act...….. a responsibility..... lots and lots and lots of training......., sometimes people even sue us when we break their ribs doing CPR.....

I know a lot of great police officers, but I know bad ones too, police are just like the general population, it the individual that determines his or her self integrity , or lack of it.

maybe those officers in that small town had NEVER BEEN under stress like that and mentally imploded and were terrified... I dunno…. maybe those local cops were making 25 grand a year and undertrained,..... I dunno… im tellin you how LEO operate in a REAL CITY where shyt pops off...… experience is very very important...…….. ive had 2 riots at my job///// and I can tell you after the first one..... I KNEW what to do after that..... but when its going down.... its intense...… things like flushing my keys down a toilet and looking for sources of a fire come to mind........

lol I just told you the one that hid behind the tree retired on over 100k a year salary . far from 25k

If they had shot their peers, and always with the possibility of bullying having been there, then sure.
But this was an elementary school, they're just little kids, hopefully alot of them were still innocent to the horrors of this world, but not now.
How much more cruel can you be?
That is a sick and Evil individual.

I just saw only the 2nd news story that I've seen on this(not that limited coverage is bad).
The first, said elementary school students
The one I just saw only said teenagers.
Not that it changes alot.
Either is terrible.

Parkland itself is a very rich area, but Broward county were it is located is full of crime. I have had my Mustang stolen in Broward, been robbed twice in Broward. That's the reason I moved from Broward over 20 years ago all the crime.

hindsight is 20/20 but experience is KEY...…. obviously they weren't prepared for this.... no way.

Sixpack577 I wasn't referring to the current shooting, I was talking about Parkland and how badly it was handled by the police.
in response to Ali123 saying we should just use trained police at the schools

keyword being TRAINED...….... experienced under extremely stressful situations...………... u wanna arm a teacher

nope grew up with the dad serving 30+ years in the Army , hanging around military families, so that might be my bias for military , like yours is for the police being around them in your job.
I personally don't like any news channels or papers they are all bias for one side or the other.
I just don't think the police are the answer, I respect their job , and the individual when I know them. I believe you can train the right people for the job.
We will disagree on the solution because of our different life experiences, but I am good with that , I just hope a real solution is found quickly.

lots of military go into law enforcement though...

Mine went from the Army to VP at a computer firm, then started selling computers and programs to contacts he had in Washington. Yeah they go for any good second job, my ex brother in law was a Navy Seal , he works for the Post Office now..I tell him just not to go Postal any time soon. He never likes that joke however.

even in my job... some people don't belong there but they never quit..... for instance…. several new officers at the prsion do not have permanent posts.... SOOOOO.... a hardcore gangster with several life sentences NEED to go to outside hospital for a faked heart attack..... does the watch commander send these new officers with ZERO uses of force..... mind you... when they get to the hospital the inmate gets UNCHAINED to get his tests and such...... he is PROBABLY gonna be a hassle..... does the watch commander trust these new officers to take this inmate to the outside hospital..... 2 officers go with the inmate...…. one gun between the two officers...…… both newjacks...…. do these newjacks have what it takes to fight this guy?>> can they win the fight? not much experience in the trenches...……. SOMEONE has to train them...….. BUT eventually they need to actually have a wild use of force and learn the hand to hand skills to do this stuff........ inmates are violent in a lot of instances.... and there are CERTAIN techniques that the academy DOESNT teach... cough cough......…… eyes/throat/balls..... but a use of force with a violent felon at an outside hospital with civialians around isn't an IDEAL atmosphere to have ure first USE of force..... the most important thing is DO NOT let the inmate GET THE GUN.... experience is needed.

I don’t think guards in schools is the answer, they help yes, unless you put one in every class room with weapons at the ready.

What’s the solution then? Pretty soon you will see schools start resembling Prisons.......

Classrooms will be locked down while in session and armed guards will be the Hall Monitors. Steel remote locking doors, bulletproof glass, security cameras, control room etc.

Most schools already are making kids wear clear book bags, banned trench coats, etc. But just like in prison you go there day after day year after year your gonna see the weaknesses and loopholes in the protocols and exploit them. So if a kid knows how to smuggle a joint in and smoke it without getting caught sure enough 1 of these mass shooters will find a way to get a gun inside
