@Bumblebee
Did you do alot of missions in extremely cold environments through your years?
What's the lowest temperatures, and/or longest time frame you guys have been out in awful cold conditions?
Are bad guys hiding out in really cold places common, as some means of deterant for people to come after them?

We did quite a bit of extreme cold training....

We conducted an advanced arctic survival course which was 2 weeks long and the temperatures would often dip into -50'C and sometimes less with the windchill...that was followed up by an advanced arctic warfare exercise where we practiced locating and eliminating radar sites (old DEW line sites).

During the Cold War there was an expectation of us either deploying into Soviet held territory to take out radar or the Soviets deploying to our arctic attempting to take out our sites...we had to be ready to repel them.

That's about 70° below zero F...at some point it can't possibly feel any colder...or can it?!
I will pass, thankyou.
It's cold...after a while Fahrenheit and Celsius almost meet the same values......

The arctic has less humidity than the desert and the snow sounds like Styrofoam when you walk on it...

We trained in the most adverse conditions we could find......that's the joy of the type of unit I was in...we trained to fight in all environments....could go from the arctic to the desert to the jungle in a day and we had to be prepared.

and that's awesome, much respect for the effort...and that much more for the ability.
I hope I Never find out what that cold feels like!!!

To put it in perspective, we had a family move here from Resolute Bay....it was the middle of January and cold as heck out and you'd often see the dad out shoveling in a tee shirt...and the kids were wearing light jackets....

That family would not be able to survive or adapt to live in the southern 'States...we were as far south as they could manage...

The Inuit we had assigned to us as guides would often be amazed at how much warm gear we had....

I was a Pepsi delivery man for 3 1/2 years, 4 winters.
Frozen brake drums and brake lines on trucks.
Early morning single digit temps, icey sidewalks, frozen bottles of water falling off the top racks of the truck from 3' over my head, 10-14 hour days that never got above freezing.
Inside to hot stores, into their 34° walk in coolers, and repeat.
Nobody ever tried to kill me either, but
...you know...serious stuff! lmao!
That's about as cold weather tough as I could get! hahahaha!
I'll take your word for it on the rest of it...

We kind of went away from cold weather fighting when all the other conflicts arose..(Bosnia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc....)

We invited a few international special forces units to participate in an arctic survival exercise and we did get a few come with us.....most of them mentioned they sure wouldn't want to have to conduct many ops in the extreme cold.....it is murder on batteries and our militaries are very battery dependent these days.

Hi. I am very sorry for you to have to go through WOW cold. I was in my tent and the coldest it got was - 14. Yesterday I was out side for 6 hrs in 2 degree weather I was dressed for it so not to cold but bare hands to make up the meals. It was still not to bad.

Now that I don't have to do it for a living, I enjoy a snowshoe walk out into the woods and find a nice secluded spot to watch the wild life or find an open spot on the river and watch the beavers work...

While I was serving I had to remain focused and often missed out on some beautiful scenery. We went into some very secluded places to operate covertly, I guess some of that rubbed off on me.

Wow, I know the cold kills batteries...but never stopped to think about it in circumstances like that.

-28'C this morning again...when look at the long range forecast, each night has a low hovering around -20'C for the next week or so....

When it's cold like this we get a lot of black ice as salt stops functioning...gets slippery as heck out there.

Yesterday I saw fire trucks and smoke in the distance...fighting fires in this weather sucks big wiener....I did the volunteer fire fighter thing for a bit and fighting fires in the winter sure created a lot of cool ice sculptures...

I saw pictures of the house of fire and it was fully engulfed....it said it started by a vehicle catching fire in the garage.
