What Did You Do To Your Busa, Today?

No pics and pretty boring stuff but did the first oil change since installing the alpha t exhaust and have to say the only part i don't like is i can no longer use the Suzuki filter cup to remove or install the filter. I hate using filter pliers to tighten the filter. Installed my power commander fc the other day so tomorrow I'll be figuring out which of the 7 maps I loaded seems best. Also replaced the right fairing on my buddies 2019 and put a baffle in his brocks pentacarbon so I can stand to ride near him  . Not a great way to spend my bday but not the worst either.

Popped in the new stator & gasket from Powerhouse as well as new copper washer+blue thread locker for the oil drain plug. Adding the oil back in and checking the charging tomorrow morning!

Frustrating times..
After a fork seal went, covered the LH brake caliper and pads in oil, went to clean the calipers and replace pads. (I know you can possibly burn the oil off, but didn't want to risk it, so new pads)

Pushing the pistons back in to get the pads out, managed to roll a seal and jammed the piston tight.
No problem, grab it with a set of locking pliers, and rotate it out, along with a damaged seal.

Onto the local dealer to order piston and seal kits, as I figured I'd do both sides all new at the same time..
Friggin heck, Suzuki Australia has 1, (that's ONE) piston and seal kit across all of Australia.. If I wanted another to do both sides, it's a 10 week wait out of Japan warehouse.

So I tell them to stick it if that's they way they treat us. And have ordered from Partzilla US and will be here in 3-5 business days..
Sometimes, living way down here is sooo frustrating when you need parts.
And the Brembo calipers are used on more than just the 'busa, other Suzuki bikes use them too
Almost ended up buying new Brembo M4 calipers just so access to parts is easier in the future..

Rant over...

Thats awful! Shipping times and expense should NOT be so high simply due to your location. Even here, I went to a dealer to get a low beam bulb for my 06 and I had to wait a few days as they had to order it. I thought they would have one in stock as they sell Suzukis but noooo. And then, when I came in to pick it up, the parts guy who ordered it told me he thought the lower placed bulb was the low beam so he ordered the wrong one. I know my problem isn’t as severe as yours but still, keeping parts in stock doesn’t seem to be the norm these days. For example, on tour one year in the late 90s on my 93 Intruder 1400 I noticed the left fork seal blew out in eastern Oregon almost to the Idaho border. I limped into Boise ID and rode in to a dealer there. They not only had (both) seals in stock, they got me in, replaced both seals (and) washed the bike, all by noon! Try getting that kind of (service) these days!

Decided to pull the trigger and buy myself a late b-day present yesterday, picked up a healtech quickshifter and installed it. Was in a hurry and didn't get any pics but it is a real easy job and I really like that you can't tell it's on there. The one thing I don't like is the directions I found online said to install it on the shift rod but with everything together there wasn't enough threads to adjust my shifter so I installed it on the bolt that clamps down the shift arm which is another option. I was a little scared since it says to torque to 5nm but there was no way that was tight enough to close the clamp so I snugged it up to what I was comfortable with and luckily didn't damage the sensor. The stock settings are set at 80ms so I'm gonna have to play with those but the little testing I did so far says it's definitely a good product.

Replaced the under cowling. Previous owner must have dropped the bike and scratched it. But they did a horrible job covering the scratch up. The paint was flat white and covered a lot of the non scratched area of the fairing. The poorly painted area did not have any type of clear coat and picked up dirt easily. With the new fairing I can see the pearly white paint again!

Well, I have only this 2011 GasGas EC450FSE to report on, a friend I've met recently asked if I could sort out it's problems. . . and yes, there was a lot of issues to work through.
Soooo, been doing a lot of much needed maintenance and upgrades to it here at home in my garage/shop.
Blinkers weren't working, just staying lit continuously, LED blinkers fitted and the flasher relay is built into that rotary light switch, LH handlebar That relay was not working so I had to bypass it and wire in LED relays to make 'em flash.
Horn wasn't working either . .
Fitted new handguards
Reinforced the side stand bracket and welded on a large footplate,
Engine oil contaminated with water, coffee color.
Valve clearance check . . all OK.
Starter motor rebuild, new brushes and brush plate, new armature shaft bearing and seal
New rear sprocket, 4 teeth reduced to drop the gearing for better road speeds.
A few other jobs too.

This may be of interest to certain members that have an interest / fascination with dirt bikes, some of you guys have serious dirt bikes anyway.
I made this short vid to show the owner the progress I've made on it since he delivered it to me on a trailer. He also lives 40kms away so I thought a vid was a great way of keeping him in the loop about his much loved GasGas.
I then thought I'd post a link here for you guys, enjoy!

Raining hard out today so I uncovered the Bumblebee, checked the tire pressures (they were down a bit) checked the chain play (perfect), did an overall check of all systems without putting in the battery and gave it a good waxing and cleaning..

Had some electrical work done in the basement and the young guy (28 yr old) asked if he could take a look at the old gal....as soon as he saw it was really impressed and said it looks fast just sitting there.

He wants to get a bike but insurance and lack of carrying space is his biggest Achilles heel right now. He had a bit of a break and looked up the Hayabusa on his phone and told me he had no idea how powerful these bikes are. Apparently one of his friends has a 600 that he talks up quite a bit but he never knew a bike like the Hayabusa existed.

I was sorta the same. The only thing I knew about the Busa was that it was popular to drag race and over-customize. I never even researched or considered buying one until I saw @TallTom 's ad for mine and fell in love.

The first time I saw one I thought it was rolling art. I asked the guy if I could sit on it. I was shocked at how big it was and how I thought at 6'6" I might actually be able to ride it in comfort.

I had NO idea that it was the fastest thing ever produced. It was then and still is art to me.

Stupidly fast, well balanced, art.
