+1, my geuss would be a low percentage as well. Something south of 5%. Racers, regular trackday riders, and you guys with your GPS are the ones I'm talking about and they(we) are a minority. Hey, maybe those that have maxed out their speed should be a new, less criminal band of 1%ers! Probably get beat down for that statement. As we know bike speedos read notoriously HIGH the faster you go, and I know from experience that as you get past the 150 mark looking anywhere but straight through that windscreen from a nice, tight tuck is not a good idea. When guys tell me they were maxed out and looking at their speedo I think they're either lying or using poor judgement. At Bonneville I tape over the speedo and only glance at the tach until shifted to 6th. Another thing I've learned is I'm not comfortable riding this bike on the street much. I've been comfortably over 200 on the salt but a buck twenty on a Nevada back road scares the crap outta me. Never know when that Coyote or wild Burro will walk into your path. Also on the street I rarely get to do what I love best which is run that thing up to red line through all 6 gears! Once your addicited to that particular form of crack, it's hard to tamely cruise the streets. Got my trusty SuperHawk for that. Final note: I strongly encourage all of you to TAKE IT TO THE TRACK! For your safety and ours. Once you've felt the warm comfort of a closed course, you probably won't want to ride agressively on the street anymore. Most posters seem to be ignoring the question but my answer is probably less than 5% of motorcyclists have topped 150 mph. I think we need a little reality check on this forum sometimes.....most bikes won't do over 150 and most riders aren't interested in doing over 150 even if their bike can do it. Our bikes are made for this and our owners are more inclined to do it and thats why we bought our bikes. Litre sport bikes are really the only solid category for this activity as the small displacement bikes take a lot of road to top 150 so you have to first look at how many litre + bikes make up the entire number of bikes sold and go from there. Less than 5% is still my best guess.
