The reward: after the Bolivian Death Road portion, the road goes to a twisty two lane along the river. Superfast, super fun, and zero people.

But what the other thing this road is really famous for is the truckers.

There's a huge sign when you turn off Highway 96 that says - YOUR GPS IS WRONG!

They still ignore it. This is the result.

Yes all taken on the single lane canyon road we just came down

If you look up the Tail of the Dragon - also a ton of photos of these idiots turning onto that super twisty stretch of road, go figure.

Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I had to sit for an hour heading East on 4 or 108? over the Sierras one day due to a semi jammed into a corner trying to head west with a huge tow truck getting it straightened out. Once it was freed we all had to follow it back down along with a CHP where they finally pulled wide and let us thru. I was surprised he made it as far as he did. I’d hate to get that ticket and tow bill….

Finally, reaching Highway 96, one of my all-time favorite motorcycle roads. It goes for 150 miles of non-stop twisties, and we're so far north, we're near the Oregon border.

Yikes! That's crazy!

Especially since Highway 108-Sonora Pass is a 26% grade at the summit and
Highway 4-Ebbetts Pass is single lane at the summit for 23 miles.

I know, it was a real shocker. Two Harleys were at the front and they’d been stuck over two hours and had walked down to ask if there was enough room to get past and were told no. Only a dozen or so cars were stacked up. Can’t imagine what that driver was thinking. First trucking job maybe and no one told him 88 or even 50 was the truck route?

Pretty sure they limited the trucks on the Dragon. I can remember several times coming around a turn skimming the knee only to find a truck wedged into the turn ahead!

That's what adventure bikes are for! Just go off-road around that stuff.

To reach Weitchpec.

Fastest way out to the ocean is an unknown ride no one has ever heard of: Bald Hills Rd

Zero people, but it includes 3 miles of gravel in the center over the range but some amazing views of the ocean from the top of the range

Headed up the range through seven sets of hairpins

First time I rode this, discovered this, which I thought was interesting. Brand-new cemetery that had just been built for Native American vets.

There's a fire lookout atop this hilltop you can see, and in retrospect, I should have probably headed up there, but it woulda been more gravel.

In springtime, these meadows are all glowing green and filled with colorful wildflowers.

The first time I rode this was on my TL1000R.
Probably not what Suzuki was thinking when they designed this bike. ;)

Another shot of the fire lookout known as Schoolhouse Fire Lookout at 3027 ft.

Someday I'll check it out. Need a clear day with no haze or ocean fog.
