2021 Pashnit Touring on a Hayabusa

That road would have sucked being gravel but it sure looks fun paved....
C'mon Bee, you are missing all the fun.:p

Great pictures, nice rides!!!

You seem to be fully booked, time to push prices up a bit for all those wealthy Californians.:D:thumbsup::)

Indeed. I increased tour cost from 425 to 440 for a 2021 three-day tour. No one blinked. I've likely always been the least expensive tour outfit in the USA. That barely accounts for 1.2% inflation. However, In post-covid times, I've got more new riders this year than previous years, and I think that's all post-covid. My tours are 95% repeat business, I normally get only 2-3 brand-new riders per season that are new, and I've got 10 new riders this season (300% increase) that've never done a Pashnit Tour before. And every tour is fully booked out months in advance. People do cancel, but there's often a waiting list of riders that'll take that spot.

Lot of booze in the Napa Valley if that's your thing.

Spring Mountain Rd runs up and over the range to Sonoma.

More burnt areas along Spring Mountain Rd from the Glass Fire in 2020. The 2017 Tubbs Fire was the one a few miles away that burned into the north side of Sonoma.

Stuck for construction again - and salvage logging

Completely surrounded by flames.
They saved this house.

New guy Dave from Colorado is digging this. I'm old enough to be his dad, and it's great to see young guys out here riding and getting into bikes and touring. Said he only got a motorcycle because it was cheap transportation to get to his college classes.
We all started somewhere.

I asked the group if anyone had heard of the Petrified Forest, no one had ever heard of it or been there, so an impromptu stop to check out 3.4 million-year-old trees. Digest that. These are redwood trees that were all blown over 3.4 MILLION years ago and have been laying here (all lined up in the same direction) since Mt St Helena erupted and blew all the redwood trees down.

What I find interesting about this place is it's not a state park and has been privately owned by the same family for over 100 years. While these petrified trees were 'discovered' in 1870, the original family bought the land in 1912 and started excavating around the logs to what we see today.

Since the early 20th century, the same Calistoga based family has maintained and operated the forest. The forest was bought by Ollie Orre Bockee, from M.C. Meeker, around 1912. The total purchase cost was $14,000. Bockee continued to purchase surrounding land and acquired a total of 845 acres. Bockee opened the property to tourists around 1914 and charged 50 cents per person.

This is Highway 29 right outside Calistoga. It's as fun as it looks, climbing up and over a low range. And yes, those are 9 high-speed knee drag switchbacks in a row. Super fun!

Last year we had a picnic up the road from here since Covid closed all our restaurants.

This year, we sailed right by and headed straight for Cobb which is a small mountain community at the top of this low range. And yes, the Middleton fire came through here a few years ago and burned all the hillsides

I don't know which fire this is, Glass, Tubbs, Middletown, one of these.

We're riding at the very top of this map below, at the very top of Highway 29. You can see the switchbacks as it climbs over the range and the long straight into Middletown when it drops into the valley the other side of the range.
