My goal was to go investigate a new museum I had learned about near Rio Vista, that also meant getting across the deep water shipping channel, when I reached the river, no bridge, the draw bridge was up, and it takes awhile for the ships to pass by.

This passed by coming down from the Port of Sacramento and headed back to the ocean. Sacramento is about 90 miles from the ocean, but is connected to the Pacific via a channel dredged through farmland several decades ago to create a deep water shipping port for ocean going vessels.

The museum is focused on electric trains from the 1920s which was interesting, but probably not a destination for one of my motorcycle tour groups. But always worth checking out. If you're into excursion trains, could be interesting. Kids always love trains, and when my kids were little, wife n I did lots of train stuff. My son (who's now 18) was really obsessed with Thomas the Train for a while. ;)

If you're into trains, the museum has a 1920s-era electric train you can ride.
