But at some point I had to leave. Starting the descent down. Going down was much harder. This is a big bike and zero front brake allowed, and it's steep

Well kids, I made it back down, zero issues. And yes, just as I got down to the main road, two cars started heading up. They must have thought if that crazy guy on the big Hayabusa rode this, it'll be zero issue for us.

Last stop of the day along Mormon Emigrant Pass -this region burned in the 2021 Caldor Fire

This fire burned nearly 225,000 acres and was one of the first wildfires to cross over the top of the Sierra Nevada Range and start down the other side. This was the fire where they tried to evacuate South Lake Tahoe as it started to descend into the Lake Tahoe Basin. The wildfire got within 5 miles of the city before they stopped it. The whole city of 22,000 were told to get out. It was crazy. There's only one road out the east side of the city. One.

Look how close it got to South Lake Tahoe. Scary stuff. (I used to live in Pollock Pines) Scary stuff.

Mormon Emigrant Trail is known for some very long straights.

This road runs along the spine of the ridge all the way to Pollock Pines, a mountain community at 4000 ft.

On the bike at dawn, rolling home by 4ish, today was 10 hours on the bike, mama has dinner waiting for me, perfect timing, another super awesome 1000 mile weekend on this awesome Gen3. Have put 11,000 miles on this bike in 7 months.

We're headed for the Northern Sierra Range next for The Mystery Tour, but shhh!

This is a tour where a whole bunch of people signed up to ride, but have no idea where they are going or where we are riding to. It's a Mystery!

Pashnit Mystery Tour

Would you sign up for a motorcycle tour having no idea where you are going, where you’re headed, or where you’ll be staying?

All you have is a date & a meet spot. Be at this designated place at this designated time and we’re going to go ride. One year ago, I had nearly 40 motorcyclists sign up for this all-new motorcycle tour, so many, I added another tour date to handle the interest. For the 2023 Pashnit Mystery Tour, we had a group of veteran alumni joining together, meeting once more in a flurry of handshakes, hugs, and broad smiles. We met in Placerville at the edge of the Sierra Nevada Range. Fall has finally arrived in California & we’re blessed with cooler temps as September is actually one of the best times to ride in the state. Few people on the roads, kids are in school and it’s not crazy hot anymore.

Mark, Tim, Hana & Luc, we've all been riding together on these tours for 10 years plus. We're always so excited to see one another. It was actually Luc's idea for this tour. I can't take credit. One time he asked me why don't you offer a motorcycle tour where the destination, region, or route isn't disclosed. It's a Mystery!

Gary, Gary & Tom - Luc has multiple bikes in his garage and rotates the bikes through these tours - he's on the Bandit for this ride. And Gary has his GTS. He was the first one of our ride group to get one of these. Now three of our tour alumni have bought the GSX-S1000GT+. We have them in black, blue & red. Gary got the black. He also has a GSX-R1000 that he regularly rides on these tours. Only guy I know that tours on a near bone-stock GSXR.

My giggly Hana, she's always laughing about something. Her plan this year was to ride three Pashnit Tours & being from Canada, she rides three tours in a row. This way she leaves her Ninja-1000SX in California & commutes back and forth from Vancouver for the tours & then rides it back to Vancouver after the 3rd tour.

Cedar Ravine Rd is fast & twisty

Didn't take us long to find narrow single lane backroads. The Sierra Foothills are full of them.

Starkes Grade is a single lane foothill road that connects up to Pollock Pines. It actually parallels the the Highway 50 freeway & climbs steadily in elevation up to 4000 ft plus includes several hairpins. Nobody on this road except one or two locals.

At Pollock Pines we reach Sly Park Reservoir - Jenkinson Lake

I used to live just up the road from here & wife and I would bring the kids to this lake to play in the water when they were little. My two oldest are in college now, that was awhile ago.
