EV vehicles

After Christmas, I normally see folks on new bicycles out riding. When looking at the kind of bikes and how people ride them, I already know, it’s a few rides and that is the end of it. Bike never gets ridden again.

We have an organization here though, where they end up for a good cause.

When I was a "gym rat" I noticed a huge uptick in people coming to the gym after New Years who didn't have a clue how to work out....that lasted a couple weeks then "poof" they were gone....

Funny how that works sometimes....

Why past tense? Did you quit going regularly?

I have my own home gym I go to now......that and the gym I went to was on the base...
If you're using your home gym regularly, it qualifies you as a gym rat. The term holds a very positive context for me, by the way. :) I worked out at home for a year and a half during covid.

I have a training bike and a makeshift gym upstairs. Ride the bike every week day morning, on the road week ends.

I’m about to donate the gym to whoever wants it. We have a fitness center real close, Olympic pool, machines, CrossFit, climbing, whatever you can think of. I actually prefer the machines, there little traffick, plus some window shopping.

Saw this sitting at Walmart, a young guy who works there owns it, he said he doesn’t need a license as it’s basically thought of as a novelty bicycle. He said it’s about equivalent to a 250 and will go 160 kms on a charge if it’s in economy mode and he’s gentle with it

I guess if it has a tag as shown, he might get a surprise when the Popo pulls him over.

I’m getting worried about you Bee. Almost sounds as if you are contemplating switching lanes, to EV.

Hey it beats walking. I think EV options are great for short distances. Perfect for commuting. I've seen kids riding electric foot scooters to their jobs. Cheap, easy to store, no license.

The license plate has the manufacture logo on it.....I asked him if ever got hassled and he said he never has and his mother works for the Canadian equivalent of the DMV....it has some sort of insurance on it though...

I have no qualms of riding or driving an EV.....I only think the general public and infrastructure aren't ready for them which leaves a bad taste in people's mouths when considering one.

I agree.....

I see all kinds of E scooters and a few of those e-unicycles around....those unicycles really fly....

I saw one guy with an E scooter that folds up and has a sling on it to carry it around....

Interesting, over here that won't fly.

Some time back, you and I read the Canadian regs, which also contradicts what he told you.

Not important, perhaps they are a little easier in Canada, when it comes to applying the law as written.

I think because this genre is very new, the legislation has quite caught up with it yet...

Kind of like back when snowmobiles were getting more mainstream.....a cop told my dad once that he felt what my dad was doing was wrong, but his feelings aren't law....

(my dad was riding down the road on his snowmobile in the late '60s).

Looks like Zero Motorcycles is hanging in there from California, with Polaris backing.

When it comes to EV motorcycles, this is what I struggle with:
1.) If I wanted to plod along, I would ride a Harley. I'm interested in hp and high performance, without that, I lose interest.
2.) If we look at their sports bike, and they advertise 170 miles range, we have to consider the numbers. A 17.3kWh battery pack.
3.) A Hayabusa stock pushes around 121kW to to the back wheel. So that means if we ride at full Hayabusa throttle on this electrical bike, we have 8.57 minutes, and the battery is flat. I know we can't ride full throttle on the street for 8 minutes, but the numbers just puts me off.

I was in DC recently. Saw a lot of these zipping around. And on the subways they carry them on their person. High congestion. Parking, if available is costly. Even though DC has excellent public transportation, plenty of people find these better than walking.

I recently checked out one of these electric bikes , it was the 2017 version of Moto Parilla SUV VIP , and is 750w powered . It is only one in country , they usually only bring in the 250w version . I test rode it , but it was in rough condition , the gel coat was lifting from the carbon in a lot of places
CF, totally overrated when it comes to frames I think but nice for bits and bobs. For the prices they charge you for CF racers you could build them out of Titanium! Cool looking bike. Makes mine look like a snail, but still 750W. I was out on the unaided toughroad this morning for a 20km ride and my cruising speed on the flat in still air was only 25km/h, a crawl really. Oh I love it because it's all about exercise but that feeling of riding powered up the highway is something else altogether. It could become quite addictive :firing:

These bicycles are openly advertised and I've seen a couple of them out riding around....

If you look at the specs they are pretty serious bikes (for what they are).

I've seen many other brands of E-bicycle plying our streets here that in my eye-radar are exceeding 20 kms/hr

Interesting:

Either no one cares, or at some point someone might care.

I'd say nobody cares or the enforcement of such laws are lax.....

Police are short handed and certainly don't have the human resources to enforce it.

Same as kids under 16 who are supposed to be wearing helmets on bicycles.....there are so many not doing it that the entire patrol day would be consumed in chasing them down....

Well, that is not too bad.

We have the same experience with mass store robberies over here, the popo don't care, because if they arrest, the gangs are back on the streets the next day.
