(BigmanZ @ May 14 2007,20:51) Technically satanist, so that would put me in the Athiest bracket.
No, that wouldn't put you in the Athiest bracket at all. In order to be a satanist you first have to believe in God as well.

It would definitely toss you into the "Other" category though.
Once again, you should study what Satanism truelly is as it has been around long before Christianity.
See? Now this is interesting!
When exactly was the birth of Satanism? I mean, can you date it's earliest existence in an organized form or has it just evolved from a collection of similar beliefs?
I'll see if I can look it up. As far as I know there is no ... make sense as the idea seems rather foreign..."We don't believe in religion, only proven philosophies....oh ya, we'll also kill you if you cross us." Just doesn't seem to make sense. Oh and I apologize for spelling errors. English Major I am not.

I would think that people of "no belief" started to identify with others of like mind in the era of the Roman .... Morning Star, blah, blah, etc.) which predates the organized belief of non-belief, so I totally agree with you that it predates Christianity.
I also agree it was around before Christianity. Shoot, a bunch of Christian Holidays are based on Pagan holidays (or days of worship... whatever you wanna call them) Look at Christmas... In the bible it says the Sheperds were tending their flocks of sheep... Well, in december in Israel, if I'm not mistaken, it gets too chilly for sheep to be out grazing like the bible says they were. I believe Jesus' birth took place more in the summer time months. Then look at Easter... or the Pagan day of Bunny sex as I call it. Why? The Pagan Holiday (as I've been told by my Wiccan friend) is based on procreation. Basicly, having sex like bunnies (hence the rabbit) and having kids (hence the eggs). A bunch of our Christian Holidays were put there to try and cover the Pagan ones which were there first.

Great, with an innocent thread I seem to have started a minor war.

You guys were right, this could get good.

I like all the differences I have here. It really does show an interesting group of people. And just think, the Hayabusa seems to be a common bond holding us all together.

I am not religous. I do steer towards Buddhist 'Philosophy' (it's not a religion!)

Not wanting to offend anyone here, but if Jesus Christ was hung we'd sure as hell look stupid kneeling in front of a gibbet.

I'm confirmed christian protestant and actualy worked in the service of the church of england for 1 year with it in mind to further study theology at seminary college and become ordained. How life changes.

Anyway. While I don't have much time for religous debates, whatever you believe just be happy and let others live in peace.

"In the Bible it says that..."

Most atheists feel that the Bible is of questionable accuracy, as it was written thousands of years ago by many authors who were recording oral tradition that existed many years before. Thus, any claimed 'truth' in it is of questionable legitimacy. This isn't to say that The Bible has no truth in it; simply that any truth must be examined before being accepted.

Many atheists also feel that because any passage is subject to "interpretation", any claim that a passage 'means' one thing and one thing only is not legitimate.

Note that this feeling tends to extend to other books.

It is also remarkable to many atheists that theists tend to ignore other equally plausible religious books in favor of those of their own religion.

I'm a Buddahist, non believer.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Christianity, responsible for more deaths/murders than all of the wars combined!

I refuse to believe in a god that is all loving and forgiving, but if you don't live the way I tell you to do (for 100 years) You will burn in hell for eternity. Something about that just doesn't sit right with me.

Besides as far as established religeons go Christianity is very young. Too many church leaders with their hands either down the pants of young boys or in the collection tray. If not one in each.

Believe what you want. If I am going to be judged, let it be by my actions. Lead by example and do the right thing as often as possible. It's not that hard.

Buddhism was founded by an Indian prince named Siddharta Gautama around the year 500 BCE. According to tradition, the young prince lived an affluent and sheltered life until a journey during which he saw an old man, a sick man, a poor man, and a corpse. Shocked and distressed at the suffering in the world, Gautama left his family to seek enlightenment through asceticism. But even the most extreme asceticism failed to bring enlightenment.

Finally, Gautama sat beneath a tree and vowed not to move until he had attained enlightenment. Days later, he arose as the Buddha - the "enlightened one." He spent the remaining 45 years of his life teaching the path to liberation from suffering (the dharma) and establishing a community of monks (the sangha).

Atheism, defined as a philosophical view, is the position that either affirms the nonexistence of gods or rejects theism. In its broadest definition, it is the absence of belief in deities, sometimes called "nontheism". Although atheists are commonly assumed to be irreligious, some religions, such as Buddhism, have been characterized as atheistic.

Many self-described atheists share common skeptical concerns regarding supernatural claims, citing a lack of empirical evidence for the existence of deities. Other arguments for atheism are philosophical, social or historical. Although many self-described atheists tend toward secular philosophies such as humanism, rationalism, and naturalism, there is no one ideology or set of behaviors to which all atheists adhere.

The term atheism originated as a pejorative epithet applied to any person or belief in conflict with established religion. With the spread of freethought, scientific skepticism, and criticism of religion, the term began to gather a more specific meaning and was sometimes used to describe oneself.

Christianity is a monotheistic religion centered on the accounts of the life, teachings, and actions of Jesus of Nazareth, a character known by Christians as Jesus Christ, recounted in the New Testament.

Why is it that the only thing actualy believed to be written by the hand of Christ, is denounced by the church?

Mormon
An ancient prophet believed to have compiled a sacred history of the Americas, which were translated and published by Joseph Smith as the Book of Mormon in 1830.
A member of the Mormon Church. Also called Latter-day Saint

OK, we'll take credit for The Crusades, count Northern Ireland twice 'cause we're on both sides (I guess), about 3 years of whatever got started in Africa (until the diamonds were discovered), we tolerated slavery (but in the end put the nail in it's coffin), didn't speak up when indigenous people were being screwed, and Hitler "said" he was a Christian (uh... pul-eeeze!).

But the 6000+ years prior to 33AD... don't look at us!
tounge.gif

And even most of the above was all motivated by greed, wealth, money, power and land. The Church, included. Pretty sad. Kinda what happens when you follow a man or a leader and don't hold his/her words up to scrutiny or accountability. Lazy people just going with the flow as long as it benefits them down the road.

And the longer I live and the more I see of this world, the more I'm inclined to believe that whatever "way" the majority of the world is living by ain't workin'. Actions do speak louder than words.

hehehehe this thread has SO MANY mislead ideals, I wouldn't even know where to start.

People do have need to discuss/argue/banter/contemplate this stuff, which is why these topics are always so filled with writings, and a large numbers of viewings.

Please, continue.
