I also agree it was around before Christianity. Shoot, a bunch of Christian Holidays are based on Pagan holidays (or days of worship... whatever you wanna call them) Look at Christmas... In the bible it says the Sheperds were tending their flocks of sheep... Well, in december in Israel, if I'm not mistaken, it gets too chilly for sheep to be out grazing like the bible says they were. I believe Jesus' birth took place more in the summer time months. Then look at Easter... or the Pagan day of Bunny sex as I call it. Why? The Pagan Holiday (as I've been told by my Wiccan friend) is based on procreation. Basicly, having sex like bunnies (hence the rabbit) and having kids (hence the eggs). A bunch of our Christian Holidays were put there to try and cover the Pagan ones which were there first.(tdrcomm @ May 15 2007,01:59)(BigmanZ @ May 15 2007,02:23)I'll see if I can look it up. As far as I know there is no ... make sense as the idea seems rather foreign..."We don't believe in religion, only proven philosophies....oh ya, we'll also kill you if you cross us." Just doesn't seem to make sense. Oh and I apologize for spelling errors. English Major I am not.(tdrcomm @ May 14 2007,22:06)See? Now this is interesting!(BigmanZ @ May 15 2007,01:16)Once again, you should study what Satanism truelly is as it has been around long before Christianity.(Revvv @ May 14 2007,21:04)No, that wouldn't put you in the Athiest bracket at all. In order to be a satanist you first have to believe in God as well.(BigmanZ @ May 14 2007,20:51) Technically satanist, so that would put me in the Athiest bracket.
It would definitely toss you into the "Other" category though.
When exactly was the birth of Satanism? I mean, can you date it's earliest existence in an organized form or has it just evolved from a collection of similar beliefs?
I would think that people of "no belief" started to identify with others of like mind in the era of the Roman .... Morning Star, blah, blah, etc.) which predates the organized belief of non-belief, so I totally agree with you that it predates Christianity.
