(WWJD @ May 15 2007,20:10) hehehehe this thread has SO MANY mislead ideals, I wouldn't even know where to start.
smile.gif

People do have need to discuss/argue/banter/contemplate this stuff, which is why these topics are always so filled with writings, and a large numbers of viewings.

Please, continue.

You have to admit that it's fun to simply sit back and read though. You learn a lot about people when you bring up controversy. There is nothing more controversial then Religion.

I think it's great.
It's really surprising to hear what people's conceptions and misconceptions are.

Oddly there are more misconceptions that anything else. If you don't believe me take a look at the Falwell thread.

I'm not a fan of Denominations myself. If I had put "NonDenominational on the poll there would have been mass confusion more than we already have.

Raised a Roman Catholic, Developed into a human being that believes in treating others the way I would like to be treated and if I am not treated that way in return; I shoot them.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Christianity, responsible for more deaths/murders than all of the wars combined!

I refuse to believe in a god that is all loving and forgiving, but if you don't live the way I tell you to do (for 100 years) You will burn in hell for eternity. Something about that just doesn't sit right with me.

Besides as far as established religeons go Christianity is very young. Too many church leaders with their hands either down the pants of young boys or in the collection tray. If not one in each.

Believe what you want. If I am going to be judged, let it be by my actions. Lead by example and do the right thing as often as possible. It's not that hard.

Later,

Steve
OK, we'll take credit for The Crusades, count Northern Ireland twice 'cause we're on both sides (I guess), about 3 years of whatever got started in Africa (until the diamonds were discovered), we tolerated slavery (but in the end put the nail in it's coffin), didn't speak up when indigenous people were being screwed, and Hitler "said" he was a Christian (uh... pul-eeeze!).

But the 6000+ years prior to 33AD... don't look at us!
tounge.gif

And even most of the above was all motivated by greed, wealth, money, power and land. The Church, included. Pretty sad. Kinda what happens when you follow a man or a leader and don't hold his/her words up to scrutiny or accountability. Lazy people just going with the flow as long as it benefits them down the road.

And the longer I live and the more I see of this world, the more I'm inclined to believe that whatever "way" the majority of the world is living by ain't workin'. Actions do speak louder than words.
Yeah, and I know Mexico was a huge christian community before the Spaniards got here. I mean the Aztecs and Mayans were all ready slaughtered. Along with all of their writings, technologies etc. Seems to have been a trend. But you know, it never happened.

... okay, just one little one...

Do any of you PERSONALLY KNOW any Christian that has killed anyone in God's name? wacked out serial killer friends don't count.

The issue is not and never has been whether or not a particular PERSON has killed anyone. Every killer out there has a religion of some kind, no doubt about it. So that's not the issue.

The issue is that Christianity AS A RELIGION promoted various inhumanity way back when. Islam AS A RELIGION promotes it now. A variety of nutball cults promote it now.

The conclusion? Despite the claims of most religions, they really don't have as much power to change peoples lives as they think they do. People still steal, kill, cheat on their wives, beat their kids, covet their neighbor's possessions . . . . The works. All that in spite of their religions and the things they are taught over the pulpits.

Fact: If people want to be good people, they will do so in spite of the teachings of their religions.

By the way, historically speaking, it isn't just Christianity and Islam which have foisted horrible violence on others in the name of their various faceless gods. Buddhists, Hindis, Mormons, Catholics, Jews, atheists etc. etc. have all done so and will continue to do so.

Pointing fingers is pretty laughable and so is excessive defensiveness! Honesty requires that we face the realities of the failings of our various religious belief systems instead of trying to justify them with defensive b.s. or assertions of how they've changed for the better over time. If you're going to adhere to a religion, you have to adhere to it flaws and all, almost like being married. No, JUST like being married!

--Wag--

No hedging. I'm just asking DO ANY OF YOU PERSONALLY KNOW ANY CHRISTIAN THAT HAS KILLED ANYONE FOR GOD? I ask because if no one does, we can finally drop the whole crusades crap and move on. As a corollary, does anyone know ANYONE PERSONALLY LIVING TODAY that has started a major war in God's name? No? Okay, so CHRISTIANS do NOT KILL PEOPLE, Christians do NOT start wars. Enough a bout that.

That sad excuse for avoiding God is the WEAKEST excuse I've ever heard... "but the crusades.... whaaa whaaaa" the Crusades were done by MEN, not God, for the wrong reasons -- much like ANY WAR. And it is in the PAST - which NONE OF US CAN CHANGE - so let it go, like an old girlfriend.... "Well I can't get into a new relationship, I had this girlfriend once in my past that didn't go so well...." hahhahahahaha well if ya wanna stay in that cell... enjoy! - Wag, none of this is directed at YOU, just generally speaking.

aw, jeez, now look.... ya made me join the thread, dang it!
