What Did You Do To Your Busa, Today?

Picked up the bike from the shop. Been there for a week or so..

Had forks rebuilt, new uprated ohlins springs, seals, etc. Wow what a difference.

Had the steering dampener serviced and new oil

And had the steering head bearings replaced. They look ok, but techs said when the weight was off the suspension, it was really notchy and catching off centre.

Thanks mate, yep those bearing races are marked with deep imprints I recognise from many other ball bearing races I have replaced on big bikes... as your tech correctly said they would have been noticeably “notchey” and self centred in the straight ahead position of the steering, yuk.
Combining the upgraded forks and the steering head behaving like a new bike, you are in for a treat on the next ride with twisties!
When I did the same ‘combo’ on my bike the difference in the way it turned into corners and held lines in corners was night and day.
I also removed my OEM 20 year old steering dampener as it was in a bad way and causing the bike to weave in a straight line. That helped tremendously.
I notice the grinding on the lower race to remove it from the steering stem. . . I find this method a little risky coz one slip with the grinder and the damage to the lower clamp or stem is irreversible. ( don’t ask me how I know this)
I now use a large cold chisel with a 90 deg angle on the sharp end to move the race off its seat slightly, then use a bearing separator to drag the the race away using the press.
Nice clean method to do the job.
 
When I saw the griding marks, I thought the same... So, so close to a "well, thats f*cked now"
They measured the springs and they came in at 8.5nm, which works out at around 0.87 as per what we normally talk in spring rates. Replaced wit 10nm which is about 1,02 rate. As you mention, should be way fun :)

Well if this is a NEW-OLD-RETRO thing, then fug it. Now I gotta go buy a gallon of paint thinner. :redface: Do you remember the colored tires thing? You could get tires in the color of your choice. I thought it was fugly. Oh my god,what have I done.:banghead:

I do remember the tires & the burnouts with color matching smoke but they are fads, me2 things, a flash in the pan. Not saying not to rock the grove paint just that the coolness of it fades.
