And, contrary to popular belife, the Goldwing is Not just a touring bike...it is an obese corner carving sport utility motorcycle, lmao...I use mine to take the trash off, get groceries and beer, and I just got back from a 60+ mile trip through the woods to Home Depot, for another 5 gallon bucket of Deck Over(not as fun on the Gsxr1k, lol)
I put 5 gallons down on Saturday, then it rained Sunday afternoon until about an hour ago, with more coming soon, and through early Saturday.
So the light rain seemed like a good time to take a half day of vacation and not have to drive my truck in traffic.
So I came home and got the Goldpig/Oldwing, and away in the light rain we went, lol(rain never stops my riding)

A 2008 Obsidian came up on my radar! Been sitting for 3 years. Bad health sale. 28K miles. Stored inside. Not running. 3 hours away. I messaged him, told him I know all the work that this bike would need. And offered him a couple of grand. He did not disagree with my assessment.
He responded with videos and a list of what it has. And isn't saying no. He is about to get a knee replaced. He wants it gone.

Today I changed the transmission top cover for a 2023.5 CVO 121 model. Harleys vent the engine gasses through the heads and into the intake, which ends up will oil caked pistons and a oil soaked air filter. I have run a catch can before but it does not solve the issue. Trask makes a cover that vents through the cover but its 350 bucks. Harley started using their own version and it retrofits the older M8 motors and a 1/3 the cost @ 95$. No more oil soaked air cleaner!!!!! For the other Harley guys, if you have a M8 you need this. took me about an hour as my exhaust needed to come off aside from that its a easy job. Bolt torque is 120 IN/LB

Put a CravenSpeed radio antenna on the Goldwing...to get rid of the factory 4' whip on it, lol.
It picked up just as good on the carport, but you can see the storm coming in the background.
I'll go for a ride tomorrow or wednesday and see if it picks up as well elsewhere.

Do you all find much use for the CB? I’ve got it but not the original helmets or attachments. Two antennas on the back, CB controls, and the female wire/headset connectors on the bike.
 
To add. If truckers still use CBs it would be an excellent way to gather info on road conditions and traffic issues.

Many still do, but the problems can be; what channel are they on in that area?
Did you catch the beginning of the conversation, with mile markers and exit numbers?
And how powerful is your cb/what range? As in how far you can hear them, or communicate with them.
Clarity also can be an issue.
Not to say a cb can't be useful, but just some things to be aware of.

I rode about 30 miles away from home tonight(60 round trip), and the CravenSpeed antenna did suprisingly well.
The stations that normally come in clear did, and ones that didn't actually came in better.
I can only explain that as the CravenSpeed supposesly has a copper coil inside it, vs the stock aluminum rod, and while even though the stock antenna is much taller, it is also subjected to alot more wind and moves around, vs being stationary like the CravenSpeed.
The CravenSpeed was also only $25, and has a 'no questions asked' return policy, so there is really no risk to try one.
I was skeptical, but am actually very happy with it, looks and reception.

Does it fold down for a bike cover, or do you put a hole in the cover to accommodate it?

No, unfortunately it doesn't fold, as the stock folding base is above the threads, but I am going to try to modify the stock base so that I can fold the CarbonSpeed.
And yes, I did think about cutting a small hole in the cover for it too, lol, as my Goldwing sits on my carport.
I have a WingStuff cover that came with the bike, and it has enough slack to where the short antenna fits under it.
Eventually the weight of the cover rests on the tip of the antenna and bends it inward and towards the back of the bike, but the antenna, even though semi-rigid, has enough flex to bend slightly.
After having it covered for two days, as soon as I removed the cover the antenna was straight again...but how many times the rubber antenna could handle this, and regain it's straight shape, is anyones guess.
I am still thinking about what may be the best solution for that too.

I also forgot to mention that the CarbonSpeed antenna comes with 6 different brass adapters, each has two different male thread sizes on each end, one for the antenna base, and the other for whatever vehicle application.
I read several posts about a gap between the antenna and the Goldwing's antenna mount when installing the CarbonSpeed antenna, which is just that the brass threads are visible between the antenna and the mount.
I easily corrected this by threading on an M8 stainless steel nut, which fit perfectly(I forget the pitch but will measure it), it is visible below the carbon fiber looking sleeve on the antenna.

I find that if I use a cover at the end of the day, the next morning I'm not wiping off dew and dealing with a surface wetness on the seats. My seats are waterproof. So that means all the dew sits on the surface. And absorbs into what you are wearing.

A cover saves time from having to wipe all this off.

So you are saying your 'Wing had a "pup tent" thing going.....it was probably happy to see you.....
