believe it or not you'll make the most power on 87 wow.gif

using 87, I try to only use either Chevron or Texaco but have had my moments with other stuff as well

87 'burns' quicker - race fuel burns slower - busa is timed for 87 and above - 87 explodes faster, pushing cylinders quicker, turning crank faster, yadda yadda yadda. if you retune your bike for slower burning higher octane then use it. simple.

87 in most areas stock. Some areas use oxygenated gas which burns to quick. Even in the Turbo I do not have to burn more the 93 most of the time. High runs extra for = 104

I've read and heard many places higher octane can leave carbon buildup due to incorrect timed burn, but have no personal experience either way.

yeah and I always had thought up until I got a busa that the higher octane gas was always better.. blush.gif

hold up wait?

I thought I read in the other thread, that 92 was cool. I live in Calif..... have a dual Yoshi slip on. what is really the best for my bike? i don't ride it too hard really.
BUT MY MILEAGE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!

In the owner's manual it says stock for US, you guys should run 91, for Canadian models it says 87. It's the exact same engine, we just have different formulas to figure out octane ratings, weird and a pain in the ass but true.

So if you are putting in fuel in the US - use 91.
If you guys visit us here in Canada - use our 87 rating

Not sure what the European ratings are like ?? rock.gif

If my understanding is correct, octane is a measure of how easily the fuel is ignited. The lower the number the easier it starts to burn -- higher number means less prone to ignition.

Which is why engines with high compression ratios need to use higher octane fuels -- so as to avoid early detonation from compression and heat instead of the spark. This early ignition is apparently very bad.

So in theory, we are best using the lowest octane number possible. The fuel will in theory burn better and cost less.

NOW you tell me.  I've been running 93. spending all my hard earned money.  I will run 87 in mine from now on!!
Yes but if you are running 93 go to 91 a make sure it feels good for you. then go to 90 then to 87. different areas gas is a little different. Absolutly do not need 93 unless you are running a Turbo or pushing a big bore.

I tested this out at the track once on my completely stock Busa. I made 13 runs, the first 7 with 94 octane (180-181MPH)and the last 6 with 87 octane(183-184MPH). My results were consistantly 2-3MPH faster with 87 octane. This was the ONLY change I made that weekend.

Up to that point, I had always thought higher octane was better gas. Now I know the difference.
