I tested this out at the track once on my completely stock Busa. I made 13 runs, the first 7 with 94 octane (180-181MPH)and the last 6 with 87 octane(183-184MPH). My results were consistantly 2-3MPH faster with 87 octane. This was the ONLY change I made that weekend.

Up to that point, I had always thought higher octane was better gas. Now I know the difference.

What do you run now with your mods?

ok, so i'm gonna fill my tank with 87 2moro, will this ruin the bike at all? i'm used to all the old fairy tales of 87 just being absolutely awful for anything good.

any help again?

One tankful won't hurt anything at all. Try it and see if there is a difference.

I suspect the bike will start a little easier, hot and cold. Perhaps run a touch more powerful. But mostly there will be no difference at all.

..in Europe we have the RON measurement system - and the manual calls for 91, which equals 87 with US measurement..

Around here, there is a "trend" to go for the "higher class" fuels like Shell's "V-Power" and BP's "Ultimate".. ..of course, all kinds of B.S. is being built-up mainly by the interested parties (= gas stations' owners, petrol companies etc) that the "humble" 87 fuel is BAD for "high performance engines" (of course, you wouldn't want YOUR engine to be "low" performance, would you?.. smile.gif .. ) and they cost 1/4 more! Then, they mix with the "humble" fuel at a 1:1 ratio, motors run half-decent, everybody's happy..

..especially them..

Oh, what a sucker world we live in..

Every since this thread began I've been running 87 and honestly there seems to be a bit of a lag/delayed throttle response at times. Other than that acceleration seems to be better. Could be that I'd used 93 for almost a year before trying 87.

No just go to 89 then. Very important to remember that some gas in areas is a little different. If it is not right for you go to the next step, but I would not go all the way up to 90's yet.

Interesting, I decided to cut my grass this evening so I went to the gas station to fill my gas can and they were out of 87 octane. I had to buy 89. I put it in the mower and it ran worse than it ever has. I guess it applies to mowers and busas.

I've tried 87,89,91,and 100 it seems to run the same on all of them so I go with the less expensive 87.

running a higher octane just carbons up your engine. so why waste the money.
